Before I begin, let me say that my activity as of late has been rather low (as in nonexistent :red: ).

Anyway, I'll start with God's Word (a very good place to start :P ):

"You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder. and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment" (Matthew 5:21-22).

"Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in darkness" (1 John 2:9).

With that, I would say that hate is wishing ill and hardship upon others. It is "to commit murder in your heart."

Hate is often born of pride and envy; that is, one wants to be the greatest, even if that means that everyone else must be brought low. The only things that we are justified in hating are sin and wickedness, as they are completely opposed to the love of God.

Hate is wishing ill on the inside, a curse is wishing ill with your words, and assault is trying to bring ill on someone.

Hate does require a bit of interest. It means that the person has some say in your life to make you wish them harm. It means they have hurt you in some way that you need to forgive them for (which breaks down the view that you can't forgive, say, Sadaam Hussein for killing Kurds... You forgive them for how their actions have affected you)

Unforgiveness is at minimum the perpetual state of potential hate.

Isn't it funny how we can say exactly what hate is, then turn around and attach some mystical, undefinable nature to love? It's no wonder that we have so much trouble with the commandment to love one another...

Someone once told me that Hate is based on love. You have to love someone so deeply that the only way to show it is to hate them.

I don't agree with that what so ever, but it is something to think about. Creepy, but still something to think about.

I'm not sure I follow ya with that statement  Hate and love are opposites. [period]

But yeah I think hate is often the result of envy and unchecked negative thoughts and feelings towards something or someone.

Hate is an unpleasant thing, but it is not the worst thing. It is certainly not completely wrong, because if it were, God would never hate. Although God does not sin, He still does unpleasant things, such as delivering His wrath upon the wicked, the hard-hearted, and the hopelessly depraved. We are told that God does not desire the destruction of the wicked but rather their salvation, and his wrath is unpleasant, but necessary.

Hate is important, but what is more important is how to wield hate. The book of Ecclesiastes tells us there is a proper time to love and hate. If you cannot hate sin, there is something wrong with you.
Job 7:16

I loathe my life; I would not live forever. Let me alone, for my days are but a breath.
