I was going to post this in Anime, but I realize it could apply to books, TV, and everything else.
What are your favorite character types? If you were a character in an anime, what type would you be?
For me, I'd exhibit the following tropes:
1. Neutral Good
2. Cloudcuckoolander
3. Deadpan Snarker
4. The Smart Guy
5. The Heart
What about you guys?

Oh, Furen. If you knew me IRL you'd be noddiing your head in agreement, trust me.
Oh, and if they have a "bookworm" trope, I'll add that. Or does that tie into Smart Guy?

Well, I don't know the official TV-Trope names, but...
-The not insanely stupid protagonist.
-The heroine with character depth.
-The villain whose view is only twisted just that little bit.
...Yeah, pretty much characters who aren't stupid and whose actions make sense.

Cloud-Cuckoo-Landers. definitely. Ed is Ed.

That would be an example of Even Evil Has Standards or maybe an "anti-villain".
As for the others:
1. smart protaganist: The Lancer often goes this route.
2. heroine with character depths. TV tropes doesn't have a specific one, but usually this gets added to any romantic lead or some action girls.
Oh, and darn it I forgot another one. The Starscream is another one of my favorite tropes. I actually liked him in Transformers. Anyone, good or evil, who could stand up to Megatron has to have some guts.

My favorite character types? I'm not really sure about tropes, but I tend to like...
- Tsundere characters, male or female. I don't really know why, they just kind of make me laugh and perhaps I feel a sort of kinship with them You know, just mostly grumpy characters with an attitude (but actually really do care deep down).
- The jerk with a heart of gold.
- The kind ones. Tohru from Fruit's Basket (I don't care how much anyone thought she was Mary Sue) or Fluttershy from MLP: FIM are good examples.
I just really love caring and gentle characters. In a way I wish I could be like them.
- Villains or anti-heroes who actually have an interesting background or realistic reasons behind their motives.
Who would I be if I where a character in some random form of entertainment? More then likley....
- Jerk with a heart of gold (not sure if I'm that redeamable.)
- The klutz.
That is all.

I always liked the quirky mechanics or hackers
like Ed XD that'd be who I'd like to be
I'd most likely be the shy strong character kinda like Eureka too.

I always thought I'd be the one who never really took anything seriously, even when his life was in grave danger. But it wouldn't be like the "I don't care what happens to me," kind of behavior, it'd be like "I'm not afraid of what happens to me." Except he'd get all serious when people hurt or threaten his friends.
Basically, the kind of guy who has the nerve to make fun of the big scary angry villain right in front of him, and with a mischievous grin on his face while he's doing it.
Also somewhat cat-like, in that most of what he thinks about when he's not in danger revolves around what he's going to have for lunch or when he's going to take a nap. And no, that's not just because I'm a furry. xD
I don't know any of the names for that kind of personality...or any kind, for that matter.

I love characters who have hearts of gold. Whether they're stupider than Naruto, or as smart as Sasuke. And I also love twisted villains. They're soooooo awesome. People who you can't figure out can sometimes become really annoying, but once I figure them out, they're amazing! <3
And that's it. XD

Well, I am a huge anti-hero fan.
But my absolute favorite kind of character is the Deadpan Snarker. Cloudcuckoolander comes close. So do Tricksters and Lovable Traitors. And both the Technical Pacifists and Actual Pacifists. As long as the characters have something to make them realistic or interesting, they're usually great.
I don't really know what I would be...
I'd love to say that I'm part of the 'Beware the nice ones' trope. But I'm probably more of a Ditzy Genius (more ditz than genius...^^; I do get good grades though) or Crybaby who Apologizes a lot.

Overall, I like a lot of different character types. Pretty much anything well-developed, realistic, and interesting.
Not sure what kind of character I'd be if I were in an anime... I have a lot of different hobbies, so I guess it just depends on what the anime focuses on.

I second these parts of your statement, in reference to myself.

sngoeshere; you'd be awesome, is what you'd be. I can see it now, you being the free-spirited, encouraging type. And able to shoot energy from your fingertips even though it's a slice-of-life anime!!!
In an anime? I like people with personality, and the crazy ones, but I'd be more or less of a no-nonsense type myself. But it's an anime, so I'd have dog ears and longer hair.
In movies, books, etc., I love the kind of people who enjoy their own dissolution/failure, and proclaim it loudly. Tyler Durden, Victor Mancini, charlie sheen (to an extent - I hate the drugs and impurity), - all those people who show us that it ain't so bad to lose out a bit.

Yes, the genius, the slightly mad, so deep in their field that normal life has kind of been forgotten. Always fun.
I also like, I'd guess the trope would be, "The normal" the only sane person, the guy without the drama, powers or personal problems that the rest of the cast suffers. Examples I think would be Moloch VonZinzer of Girl Genius and Samwise from LOTR.
Me though, I want to be Groucho Marx. XD

I like hyper anime characters,
but I'm also a big fan of evil guys (that's just weird coming from me isn't it?:3).
Hmmm...i would probably be...
the encouraging klutz,
i like telling people not to give up, that there will always be something great about them (honestly i need to take my own advice), but i run into everything, so...yeah.

I root for the baddies quite regularly, but only if they're smart, cool, and somewhat the silent type. Evil females are doubly awesome 'cause they're unexpected due to stereotypes.

Female villians are sexy, most of the time.
Cloudcuckoolander definitely. I love these characters. When done right, they add a healthy amount of insanity and keep the show spontaneous.
Moe: When done correctly, and not when every character in it is moe.
BA adorable: I love these characters. Characters that can be so awesome and BA yet so adorable at the same time.
Chessmaster/Magnificent B@@@@rd: These characters are just great. When done correctly, you marvel in just how well they manage to pull off their plans.
Lawful Neutral: These characters are interesting. They're not good or evil, but they have their own code that they refuse to break. It's tough to tell which faction they will side with in the end.
Chaotic Neutral: Same reasons as cloudcukoolander.

Yeah, nothing wrong with rooting for a well-written villain. Especially since they're often more interesting than the hero.

What? Villains can be awesome.
And by 'awesome' I don't mean 'attractive'. I mean interesting, fun, hilarious, and other positive adjectives.

Some tropes I like:
Affably Evil: I like it when a villain is actually likeable, instead of just being a Punch Clock Villain. It's one of the reasons I like Baccano! and Darker Than Black so much.
Deadpan Snarker: I always enjoy comedic relief that isn't just some dumb gag or slapstick comedy (though that can be funny too).

Hm, so much villian love here. I can't say I've ever rooted for the villian, though I do find some of them rather interesting. I don't usually find the hero 'boring' either, so I'm not sure why people always say that.

Complete Monster- one of the most interesting characters, because I simply don't understand what made them that way. 'Monster' did a great job of presenting a character that was very much this, but let the viewer decide whether it was nature, nurture, or a mix that made Johan like that- and keep his motives a mystery.
Public Domain Characters- that is, historical figures that have been cast in new roles in the story that's going on. DaVinci in Ever After was hilarious! ^.^
Action Girl- unfortunately, there just aren't enough awesome ones out there!
