Riddle

Postby Regina Ignom. » Mon Apr 11, 2011 8:12 pm

Well, a few summers ago, a friend and I were at camp when we saw a riddle writen on a cabin wall. I was wondering if anyone would be familiar with it and possibly know of an author?

"I once was here, but now I'm gone. I left my Name to turn you on. Those who know me, know me well. But those who don't will go to Hell."

We all know who it refers to (I hope!) but has anyone ever heard of it before?

I don't think it's a riddle as much as a poem, they could have wrote...

So I'm not the only one who thought of that. XD;;

Googling the poem (and portions of it) brings up an odd assortment of results. I got a story about cyber bullying, and some weird blog posts.

Now I doubt it's Christian in origin, really.

That's a lot more interesting than the stuff written on the men's room stall walls. Most of which I can't repeat here.

Me? I prefer a good limerick. Such as:

There once was a man from the sticks
Who liked to write dirty limericks
But he failed in his sport
'Cuz he wrote them too short

I think the riddle is referring to Jesus Christ.^^

Homer: Hey, y'know, I once knew a man from Nantucket.
Bart: And?
Homer: Let's just say the stories about him are greatly exaggerated.

Good one, it reminds me of this one (and it's an odd coincidence that it involves "a man from Japan"):

There once was a man from Japan
Whose limericks never would scan
When I asked him why,
He said with a sigh,
"Well, perhaps it is because I always want to cram as many syllables into the last line as I possibly can."

...I prefer the good old ninja one.

There once was a ninja from Nantucket,
Who kept all his swords in a bucket,
he started to spin, and exclaimed with a grin;
"When I let this thing go, you best duck it."

I remember this XDDD
Yeah, it was on the wall of a Bible Camp. I've seen it on a couple other places, all scribbled on walls. If it's a poem about God, though, it's a pretty lame one.
nice limericks, by the way XD

I am pretty sure that isn't what Nate's limerick is getting at.
