I've tended to notice this alot, but, have you ever been on other forums only to read posts from hundreds of N00bs, who, judging by their age, should know better grammar and spelling then they claim to know?

I just find it funny that here on CAA, a large majority of members, especially the younger ones, seem to come across as quite intelligent. I mean, I've seen 20 year-olds on other sites that didn't sound like they made it past the third grade, yet I come here and see some 13 and 14-year olds that could out-think me.

And in the Real World, my family has noticed several times (though not always), that alot of the "best" students (in special programs or just school in general) are many times of the Christian belief. Kinda "funny," isn't it? ;D



Oh, and on a side note, I also find it funny how amazed many older students in my school seem to be when they realize how smart I am, and I'm doing stuff they should have already been through. You'd think they'd never even heard of this stuff before...

I always try to keep the chattese and various internet stupidity out of my posts. It's annoying and juvenile, I think. In fact, I hate it so much that I really judge people by their posting style. If you can't bring yourself to capitalize, punctuate, and get the right spelling, then that tells me that you're either silly or don't care much about the conversation you're in.

Heh, I feel the same way, honestly...I guess I probably shouldn't, but I can't help it. >.>;; Whenever I see a post with bad grammar and/or spelling, I want to hit something. XD

Grammar is awesome. For the most part, CAA is doing a good job. ^^ There's still some not-so-unfrequent lapses though. :| Kind of makes me wonder what is going through these people's minds.

Shouldn't the requirement for joining any online forum be having good grammar and spelling? The way you communicate through others in a message board determines your personality and general "appearance" among others (aside from your avatar). To some it might be common sense, but a forum is quite different than a chatroom.

Depending on my mood, I usually let mistakes slip by. But for the most part, I try to be respectful for people reading my postings.

Another peeve is those that don't understand the concept of the "Edit" button. That, and being so impatient they have to put up the same thing four times. @_@

It's absolutely, stunningly wonderful. As a bit of an English nerd, inappropriate or undecipherable chat speak is one of my number one pet peeves. >.>

Being the grammar freak that I am...I have to agree with all of you. Correcting grammatical mistakes (others' and my own) makes me a happy camper, so to speak. Hahaha! Bad spelling and grammar make me shiver. It's horrid, I say. I don't mind the occasional "ROFL" or "LOL," but, being the unofficial CAA chat spell-checker...I have to say, grammar is most important! ;D

YES!! I love that about CAA too. I don't always type in "correct" sentences persay, because I type how I talk and I don't talk in correct sentences. But I do try to keep a degree of correct grammar in my posts. At least when I'm not in the goof off forum. XD

Yup, I try real hard to type in more gooder English when I can.

Seriously, though -- when I see people typing like little kids would type (bad spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, etc.) it really makes me wonder what they're being taught in school. I was taught proper sentence structure in school; how about the rest of you? (No offense intended at all to anybody here... ^_^;;;;;;;;;; )

English isn't my native language, so if someone messes up his or her grammar it doesn't bug me too much. Probably because I hardly notice it. But then there are those that would even make a Zulu-speaking Buddhist hippie in the Amazon cringe.

My observation is that poor grammar requires more poor grammar to survive. Thus, those of us on this forum exert enough accuracy-pressure that terrible posting is generally squashed.

I just like to see people trying. Everyone makes mistakes, and there are members here that I respect that have common errors. The important thing is that they are communicating intelligently.

Agreed. As long as you present yourself in a manner that is respectful (ie. not trying to throw out poor grammar because you don't care about what you post) then common errors should not be a problem.

A rather common affliction. Many solve it by dropping one of the two. Kudos to those who stop the latter, because we have too many who leave out the former.

Poor grammar and punctuation is posts can be bad, but it's nothing compared to when the person is actually TRYING to seem intelligent. I've encountered a member like this on another forum, and I feel like bashing my head on the keyboard whenever I see one of his posts in a thread.
