Why do we say that prayer is banned in school?

Every time I bring this message up on my other religious message board (which show remain nameless), it never shows up on the thread list. Anyway, this has always bugged me. We can always pray silently if we wish.

After some thought, I'm going to lock this. Although I think nearly everyone here would be agreed on the need for greater Christian grounding, there is bound to be some disagreement about how this works into the USA Bill of Rights (not to mention the constitutionality of it in other countries according to their own specific laws), and I think that would gravitate into the no-politics rule.
