Modern Job Poll

If you could choose, what job would you have loved to do?

Edit: HEY! This is my 1000th counted post (I made a lot in goof-off which doesn't count)

I would say a comic book/manga artist. Though I'm not near good enough yet, I do want to do a manga sometime in the future, if it is God's will. However, I don't know if this will just be an on-the-side hobby or an actual job. If not a job, then I'll probably work in the bank or stock market.

Someday, I may actually be an animator. You never know.

Congratulations on the 1000, bigsleepj.

Hey, congrats, bigsleep! :D I chose other, because there are actually two things. I'd LIKE to be an opera singer one day, God willing. The unrealistic job of my dreams would be being paid to test video games. Yeah, yeah, laugh it up. ;)

All I'll say is, good luck. You have to have very strong ego integrity to deal with that population. Psychiatry can be hard on people with poor emotional reserve.

Comic book artist for me, although I don't think I have the talent at the moment and don't think the pay would be good. It would be my dream job though.
Being an animator would be cool too.

I'm not sure if this one is really on the list. I've wanted to be a concept artist ever since I got my hands on a 'How to Draw The Lion King' book at the age of nine. I originally wanted to design characters for Disney, but now I'd be willing to try any type of show or movie or video game.

I just love looking at old concept art for characters and seeing how much they've changed. And it's fun, trying to dream up improvements on old designs and finding new concepts.

Hmm, interesting question. Originally I had my heart set on becoming a concept artist/designer for Dreamworks or Pixar. I was a studio art major for a year and enrolled in enough art classes to put my road to carpal tunnels in hyperdrive.

But in March, I realized my real passion was with missions work, and so I left all that to go to seminary. I still have a real appreciation of CGI, though, which is 98% of the reason I play the occasional video game.

I would have a lot of fun being an actor or director.

As it stands though, I'm moving towards the realm of game design. I love writing plots, creating new worlds, being innovative; in a way, game design and movie directing are somewhat similar, and that's what I tend to think of myself as.

Coming soon (Future Project):

Out of what you listed, probably a film director, but I also would love to be just a writer as well.

This question frustrated me because I don't have a clear answer :stressed:

I only have one more year in college before I get thrown into the workforce (that is, if I don't go to grad school). It would be nice if I could immediately work my ideal career but I'm not even sure what THAT is.

Throughout highschool I've always had the dream of being an animator for television or the video game industry. But later on I learned that it was no easy thing to get into; it's very competitive and the people have to work overtime occasionally to meet deadlines from what I hear.

Now, *sigh* I'm just wondering around with a pencil in my hand :(

...*double sigh* I just thought of how my dad feels about my decision to not seek teacher certification. It's like he has no faith in me to be able to do more than teach a bunch of snot-nose brats :shady:...I still don't regret my decision to not certify, I don't care how many jobs I'm guarenteed in the education field. The way I see it, a less-paying job that you enjoy is way better than dragging yourself to work at a high-paying job that makes you miserable day in and out :shady:

Anyway, enough with that...time to get back on topic here...

As I said, I'm not sure what I want to do with myself. It's not that I can't think of anything, it's the question of whether or not it's really right for me, or whether I'm qualified to do this or that. Or, more important than anything, whether or not that's what God thinks I should do with my talents.

I want to do character art.
I want to help make video games (or at least that's what I thought).
I want to open an independent business selling ooak (one-of-a-kind) dolls, although that would probably be on the side.

I'm interested in manga/comic work.

I have people lining up already for me to draw portraits and other commission work for them.
These same people found out I was emphasizing in graphic design and are lining up with comissions for that too (although I don't think graphic design is where my heart is).

I've been suggested that I should work with an art museum.
I've been suggested to work for the newspaper drawing comics (which I'm actually not to hot on doing).
I've been suggested by SEVERAL people (those I know personally and those I know just through the computer) that I should illustrate children's books.

I'm seriously considering the children's book thing.

My dream
and my prayer is to be well-known someway somehow for my artistic abilities and creative mind. God has and continues to bless me with too great of a talent for it to stay confined in this small room and this small town. :?:

Ideally, it would be something with economics, theology, a little bit of different sciences and languages, and doing something for God that makes the world a better place without feeling idealistic like in some mere human endeavor.

More likely, I'll try to go into some kind of environmentally friendly business development, maybe something working in less developed areas, assuming such a job is possible. Otherwise, I have no idea.

I'll be a finance major because you can't get much of a job with a degree in economics, sadly :(, and I'll have an associates degree in office management. I would like to go to graduate school for something like env. economics or env. studies. I would like the way that people sometimes do things to change bacause not taking care of the environment hurts people's health and I think that is sad. I will probably have my bachelor's degree when I am almost 30. I would like to make a good income so I can travel, go to school, and do something with it to help people.

I would like to have a few varied jobs. Being a foster mother might be a cool job one day.

I can't laugh, because that would be my dream job too.

However, since that is quite unrealistic, I guess I'll go with nuclear engineer, which is what I actually am studying to be.

Joan of Arc's post reminded me; I've also dreamed of finding a job that would allow me to make some type of meaningful, positive impact on the world. I just want to help people, and improve our odds at a worthwhile future, I certainly wouldn't be looking for recognition. Unfortunately, my plans are still pretty idealistic and unformed at this point. I only wish I was as organized as Joan. It's left me trying to find a way to make an impact through my plans for a career in design/advertising/illustration, though I'm rather much at a loss right now.

I guess, to sum it up, I wish I could be a full time activist, preferably the kind that actually gets their hands dirty and helps people.

Yeah testing videogames would be fun if you're testing a cool game. If you were testing something crappy then it would be awful since you probably wouldn't be getting paid anything, and you'd be playing the same crappy game for hours on end.:P
