Yeah... I'm not for arnold, but... Hmm... Not for Davis or Bustamante either... There are two issues that mean the most to me, arnold is for neither... Of course, one of them a governer has no influence on, but the other he has quite a lot of influence...

*shrugs*

I'm not a fan of Arnold but I'm sure there's worse actors who could've ran.

Awww, I can't believe you would want poor Link to be stuck with the likes of politicians! Shame on you all!...;) I guess I'm against it, LOL

Hmm... Did they play "Bedtime for Bonzo" the day Regan got elected Governer? Or president? Because they played Terminator 2 today on sci-fi, and I'm assuming more of his movies...

I am not much of a politics kind of guy, but I still think it is a little weird for an action movie star to be the govener of California. Although I don't know the other governer running guy's names, but I don't know if Arnold should of won.

Anybody remember Ronald Reagan? There's an example of actor-turned-politician.

The Governator can't do any worse than Gray Davis... unless he really tries hard... Personally I wish McClintock could have won; he seems like a decent guy but he didn't really stand a chance. At least Arnie isn't a career politician, and is independantly wealthy so he's less likely to be bribed than someone with little money and less scruples. Theoretically.

*sigh* I hate politics.

Well, until Eirewolf's post, this thing was completely just messing around. Political discussions are not tolerated here, shooraijin, but this is just silliness.

So, to be on topic: I think they should have recalled Gray Davis and then gotten him to win as a write-in candidate. That would have made a hilarious headline.

It was really funny the first time I looked at this thread. "Link for governor?" I was like "what the..?" Then, I realized, oh the other Link. See my nickname is "Link" online and offline, cause I kinda look like him.

I got a call from my sister in Michegan and she asked me if I was voting for Arnold... She was laughing, saying it's all over the news and a lot of people were talking about it... California is like the Little US, afterall... (and that's scary...)

what's worse than being governer is being president... Governers only get all the states problems blamed on them... Presidents are "responsible" for not only every minute detail in the nation, but also what happens in other nations... Now that is pressure... Plus, to win any position in politics requires, in my view, a comprimise of values and some amount of lying... Democracy says that more than half the people are right more than half the time, and that just doesn't line up with what the bible says...

What do people outside of California think? I think it's just a bit ridiculous. But I'm not too informed about the topic, so I think I'll refrain from passing too much judgements. But 135 candidates is a bit much.

Of course, it'd be ridiculous to think anything about California as a state due to this.

Political discussions on the boards are generally frowned upon, because they have really nothing to do with the forum. But since this thread is underway and everyone is discussing in a level-headed fashion, it can stay up for now. Carry on.

Hmmm... Sorry I got all serious on ya'.

Okay, speaking of write-in candidates... Donald Duck is quite popular in Sweden and Oregon. http://www.intercotwest.com/news/2003/01/20/002.asp

Did any of you Californians actually read all 135 Candidate Statements on the ballot? Here are a few pathetically ridiculous examples that made me laugh and made me sad all at the same time:

Robert Cullenbine: I am a longtime opponent of radical right wing attempts to take over this state and country. Learn more at (insert website here).

Trek Thunder Kelly: Dear Voters, Please vote for me, thus breaking the Seventh Seal and incurring Armageddon. I will legalize drugs, gambling, and prostitution so they may be taxed and regulated, the funds derived would subsidize the deficit, education, and the environment. (There's more, but I won't subject you to that.)

Larry Flynt: (Need I say more? I'll post parts of his statement anyway.) ... I can do a better job at balancing the budget than those pinhead bureaucrats in Sacramento.... [E]xpand California gaming to include slot machines for all private clubs. State revenue from this would easily enable lawmakers to balance the state budget....California is the most proressive state in the union and I'm sure its citizens would welcome having a smut peddler who cares as their Governor.... (In case you don't know, Larry Flynt is the publisher of Hustler magazine.)

Lorraine (Abner Zurd) Fontanes: With my skills as a filmmaker and arts administrator, I will work to return common sense to California government. (Yes, that's all it said.)

Mike McNeilly: This state, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it. Thomas Jefferson's words validate this recall election as a right of the people. I am not a Politician and I'm not a Superstar. I am one of the many who believe in this revolution ... a revolution to take back the power for the people.

Daniel Watts: Support students' rights. Lower student fees. Vote Watts. (Yeah, this guy is gonna fix California's budget problems...)

This is the funniest one, I think:

Bill Prady: You know the wonderful world that exists in television comedies -- a world where, no matter what problems arise or conflicts exist, people work together to overcome any obstacle and, maybe, learn a little something? Wouldn't you like California to be a place like that? It can be if you elect Bill Prady to be the next governor of our great state. Bill Prady is an award-winning television comedy writer and producer who will bring the skills he's learned creating sitcom episodes to Sacramento. If elected, he pledges to solve all the state's problems in twenty-two minutes and forty-four seconds with two commercial breaks and a hug at the end. After all this turmoil, isn't this just what California needs?

Oh wait, this one's even funnier:

Kevin Richter: I breathe. http://www.whowantstobegovernor.com (Very funny website... Esp. the Home page and the "Richter 4 Governor" page)

Sadly, most of the other 127 candidates were serious. :shake:
