Where can I get low priced anime

Hi to all you anime fans. Living in China is great but I'm getting a little tired of buying anime that either does not have any English or the subtitles are so bad that you can hardly follow. I do get good subs and even dubs but the other day I bought around 30 dvd's and had to return more than half becase of what I mentioned above.

I know there are many places to buy anime but buying it in $ is a bit expensive for me considering the 8 - 1 exchangerate and the fact that I pay around $3 for the movies I find here. So can anyone help me find good anime at a good price. PLEASE!!!!!!!

Ya, it just feels so much better to get the real thing. Knowing that you didn't "cheat" to get it. I've only bought 1 bootleg, Endless Waltz. but I didn't know. I bought it off of half.com You gotta be careful on those auction sites.

umm.... ebay.com or half.com. They both have good deals sometimes. Though some may not ship to china.

Most of the anime on Ebay comes from China's neighbor anyway.

um... i dont even know if you can buy legal anime in China without shipping from the US or something, and the shipping costs would probably be kinda expensive like $25 or so. So much is bootleged over there i think most distributors gave up on trying to step into the chinese market with anime and other overseas video legally. I could be wrong though. A lot of software/media companies went under due to ludicrous rates of piracy (at least in Hong Kong). I'm talking like over 50% it used to be higher than that, up to 90%.

um, i assure you that most DVDs there are cheaper (if only a few dollars) with shipping than Best Buy. Eva boxed set for example at DeepDiscount saves you $7. Although if you factor in the to-china shipping maybe not. Where in China are you located, Hong Kong?

Ebay all the way..

Most anime series come in 6-8 disc sets.. They do this really stingey thing where they put 2 or 3 episodes on one disc, and sell it to you for a high price. If you were to go to any store and buy a whole anime series on DVD, it could near 100 freaking bucks.

However, usually on ebay you can find most entire anime series on 3 to 4 disc sets. Doing it this way will save you tons of money, because all DVD's on ebay tend to be about 10 dollars each (Thus, a three disc set would be about 30 dollars.). Shipping is pending, but it is usually around 3-6 dollars. So try to find the 3-4 disc versions of anime.

Yes I don't believe I have ever seen an original dvd over here. Everything is bootlegged but at least the prices are good. Thanks for all the help. I will check out all that you have recommended. It all still sounds a bit expensive since I'm not earning $ but I will see what I can get hold of. I'm situated way up oin the north close to Russia so it's even more difficult to find things.

Are the subtitles you're referring to as "so bad" those in English or in Chinese? I don't think there would be much of a problem if it's in Chinese, so I'm assuming you're referring to English ones.

If that's the case, the nearest place you can get really cheap (note: bootlegged) DVDs with decent English subs would be Hong Kong. Since you're in upper China, that's going to take a couple of train rides and a flight, so it's up to you. Take a day off, hop to HK, buy a sackload of DVDs to last you a lifetime, then go back to the mainland. Older anime DVDs in HK are subbed only in Chinese, though. Cheap VCDs are very, very rarely subbed into English (did I say rarely?), not to mention that subbing VCDs into English would be pretty pointless there.

If Hong Kong's too far, I think Shanghai would have at least have a fistful or so of cheap English subs, but I wouldn't bet that you'd have a lot of choices.

Yes I'm referring to English. Thanks for the advice. HK is really a far way off but I think I'll hang in there since I'll be moving closer to the South soon.
