Put ice on it until someone who knows more than me answers...
Heart of Sword's Rhapsody

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
And all and all you're just another brick in the wall
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
But Bismallah will not let me go
Because I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Tommy used to work on the docks
Union's been on strike
Bright eyes burning like fire
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids

Who will love a little Sparrow
Who's traveled far and cries for rest
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all
And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you!

All I know is that you should sit down with your leg outstretched on a stool or something and put the ice on for 10 mins, then take off for 10 mins, then put on again for 10 mins and just keep doing that for about an hour.
The sprain will hurt for awhile but the ice will reduce the selling and pain somewhat.

I'm no doctor, but I had a friend who sprained his ankle last week and that's what he was told to do.

Hope your ankle heals quickly and that your play goes well. I don't recommend doing a fight scene with a sprained

Rest, Ice, Brace it if you do have to move around on it. STAY OFF IT IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. Using it will make the healing process much longer.

A sprain is a stretching or tearing of ligaments. (Ligaments are tough bands of elastic-like tissue that attach to joints, preventing excessive movement.)
Ankle sprains are most common and are notorious for their tendency to reoccur, while knee sprains tend to be less common they can become more complicated if not treated properly. A sprain may be mild, moderate or severe.
To treat a sprain correctly and conservatively means making a diagnosis and usually treating conservatively. This can be accomplished by either a type of splint or a cast.

*Mild sprain - Fibers within ligaments are over-stretched or slightly torn. You may feel minor pain and tenderness with touch or movement. There is little or no swelling. You can usually put weight on the joint and x-rays are normal.

*Moderate sprain - ligament fibers are torn but not completely ruptured. Pain and tenderness are moderate with some swelling and black and blue discoloration. It is difficult and painful to move your joint.

*Severe sprain - one or more ligaments are completely torn, the affected area is painful, swollen and black and blue. You can’t move your joint normally or put your weight on it. In other words, see a doctor very very soon…

If you are sure you have a sprain, see your doctor to rule out a fracture or injury to a joint. For immediate care of a sprain, try this approach to self-help;
*protection - don’t “tough-outâ€

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

Ice the first day, heat the days after that. Also having it wrapped and maybe having it braced is also a good idea. Just a note, my brother sprained his knee awhile back and a couple years later it got worse. Because he didn't treat it right. You may want to see a doctor if it's bad enough.

Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation

Even though these have already been said...do them. And DON'T subject your knee to heat (i.e. a warm bath (or shower if you can manage to tough out cold showers for a while)) until there is no more swelling in your knee.

I can't stress the ice thing enough.

Also, there is something called cryokinetic therapy that can sometimes help, depending on the severity of the sprain (if it is severe, it will do more harm than good). Cryokinetic therapy involves icing the affected joint for ten minutes (or until numb and relatively pain free) and then engaging in very slow stretching of the joint through its range of motion. When the pain comes back, or stretching is no longer possible, ice is reapplied. Stretching is then repeated when the joint is numb again. Be careful not to ice your knee for long periods of time without a sizable break, you don't want frostbite.

Just as a note, I took 2 semesters of athletic training class and I can attest to the effectiveness of this therapy. Unfortunately, it can be tricky to do without experience. If you don't feel comfortable enough to try it, or you try it and you feel more pain than before, then stop. You might have a severe sprain, and I would hate to be the armchair MD that exacerbates it.

Good luck bro, and I will pray for you.

Sure. :thumb:

It sounds kind of like you might have a strain and not sprain. The differance is that a sprain deals with Ligaments, while a strain is the stretch or partial tearing of muscle. Strains frequently occur in athletes, such as sprinters who accelerate quickly, or running backs that make quick cutting movements.

The treatment is very similar (if not identical for both). But, with most strains, you will find the masaging techniqe St.K mentioned is extra helpfull.

Take care of your self, and I will pray that your performance goes well.
