Guy's Clothing

Postby Godly Paladin » Tue Jul 20, 2004 11:21 am

I read the Modesty Fashion thread and it set me wondering about clothes in general. What do you guys (and gals) think about the teen guys' clothing? You know, baggy pants pulled waaaay down, chopped-up shirts, chains, every-direction-except-straight-baseball-caps, etc... Guys, do you wear that type of clothing? Gals, what do you think of that look? Just throwing this out there...

The only thing that gets me is when I see a guy that has to walk like a gorilla to keep his pants up. And I hate seeing a dude's boxers when his jeans are synced below his butt.

Sure I've gone through those phases but for the last 3 years I've just worn whatever and never thought about looking "prep" or "punk" or whatever. And I like it that way.

I think it makes them look sloppy and dumb. If you're too stupid so that you can't pull up your pants, what else haven't you the brains for?

Ow ow ow ow :( Though I feel the same about pants fitting at the waste, that was kind of harsh...

In addition to having extra low pants, I dont like when guys pull they're boxers up ABOVE the waist line so you can see them over they're pants.
"Wha? You like to give you self a weggie?"

We were at Kings Dominion (an amusment park) and this kid had his pants just below his waist and his boxers above his navel. He was just begging me to give him a good weggie. My wife stopped me though... Girls spoil all the fun. :shady:
Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

Cargo pants-- cool. Cargo pants hanging around a guy's knees-- not cool. At all. I mean, I know that ladies may not be templted as easily by the physical appearance of the opposite sex, but that doesn't mean that we can't be tempted AT ALL! I personally don't struggle with that right now, but I know several girls who do. As far as baseball caps, I don't care. You wear it in the front, the back, the middle, anyway you want. There's my opinion.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Yes, which is why I don't understand why guys like to have to hold their pants up. It really looks ridiculous to me :shady:

Anyway, the sagging pants look came from prison. Officials worried that the prisoners would use the belts to beat or hang other prisoners so they banned the use of belts. Someway somewhere somehow somebody decided that it was "cool" to have your pants hanging off ya butt.

That's about the only thing I don't like about guys or anybody: sagging pants :shady:

I saw a dude at the mall the other day with his whole boxer-covered butt hanging out of his pants. GROSS! >___O

the baseball cap thing doesn't bother me much.

it's nice to see a guy that respects himself enough to dress nicely.

Sagging of the pants = eeew. It does, however, give me a good laugh to see a guy trying to cross the street while keeping his pants on. That's good humor right there.

But anyways - chains and torn shirts are alright with me if they're done in good taste. Baseball caps too. But please please PLEASE keep the butts INSIDE the pants. :eh:

Yeah, bagging pants just show guys don't care enough to cover themselves properly. I wouldn't want some girls staring at my future (if I have one) husband's *cough* backside. It also will probably attract the wrong girls. You know the ones that dress as shabbily or skimpy.
I like a few nice chains on a guy. Looks cool and surfer.
Caps/hats are fine, just not in church.

Guys can look handsome and attractive without baggy pants, well-fitted guy pants are normally a little loose. Btw, I find guys in skin tight pants equally or more disgusting than the baggy ones. *shivers*

I like baseball caps worn straight, they're cute. Underwear hanging out of clothing is more gross than cute. For the most part though I think guys clothing is designed more with the idea of covering a person than girl's clothing ... I mean at least the prices give an illusion of being directly proportionate to the amount of cloth as opposed to being inversly proportional.... and there are lots of pockets!

Oh yes I forgot about the other extreme really tight pants... Since looking "punk" is now so cool I see some men wearing women's jeans and/or just realyl tight pants. Ok guys there's a reason they're labeled women's pants they're made to fit a women! I do not want to see your backside with low baggy pants and I don't want to see your crotch area bulging out of some tight ones!

Hm m m I dress almost Gothic. You do of course know that Goths originated through Catholics after all. So its not like I am wearing them to bring out despair, I just like black a lot. As in I wear a lot of black.

Nice fitting black jeans.
unbuttoned black shirt with dragons on it.
Black boot like shoes.
Then either a white T-shirt and white socks or Black T-shirt and black socks. Depending on whether I want white that day or not.

This part is not a fashion part:
Also, I wear biking gloves constantly. You know gloves that lack the fingertips, and are black. . .
I wear the gloves because I am trying to quit cracking my knuckles. When I wear the gloves I do not crack them so I wear them constantly. Almost 3 weeks and no knuckle cracking. HALLELUYAH!!!

Hmm, that's a good idea. I should work on getting out of that habbit too...

I agree with you all. Guys with super baggy pants are just... eww. I have a friend that dresses like that. My friends and I always tease him about it, but he doesn't seem to care. We're always yelling "Pull up your pants!" and he usually just ignores us.

I like chains and stuff on guys and hats don't really matter to me. I like hats :)

Hats. Out of respect for my deceased grandpa, I will not wear hats anywhere but forwards. He always said a guy was disrespecting himself if he wore the hat anywhere but forwards. I may not wholly agree with him, but I will respect him. :)

I guess my personal preference in clothing would be this... I'll wear something if it appeals to me and doesn't ridiculously offend anyone that I come in contact with. I like both looser and tighter pants and everything in between if it looks good and it preserves my dignity by covering what it should cover and if it doesn't reveal anything it shouldn't. But there is a culture out there where people dress different, and I respect that as well, I just don't choose to take part in that for personal preference.

It's kinda funny, there's a group at my college called the hardcore kids and they wear really tight clothing (yes, girl jeans, but they're just jeans in the end, right? I, myself found that they looked pretty normal) but they don't reveal anything that they shouldn't, if you get my point. Some people make a big deal about it, but I think it's cool because of the ministry that can go along with it. It sounds crazy, but with that style of clothing also comes a music genre and a culture and there's kids that get saved through that medium, so that makes it worth it in my book. Not saying it's for me or anything, but hey, God's using it. In fact rumor has it that there's more Christian hardcore bands now than there are secular hardcore bands. The most popular would probably be "As I lay Dying." It sounds dark, but they have some pretty intense music and, hey, kids are getting saved.

On the contrary to these things, these are some of my convictions about clothes: I'm not trying to pull some holy rant here I guess, but if God wants me to chat with someone about Him to point them to Him, one of the last things I want is for the whole thing to be ruined by the clothes I'm wearing. Not saying we should all dress the same, of course, that would be really dumb. That's all, I know I'm a long-winded typist.

heh, at least you can spell, which is more than I can say for myself. *lol*

Personally, I don't like to see people's underwear, even if it is boxers. I think it looks sloppy. To a degree, though, it's fine. I'm kinds sitting on the fence here. Mom and I have talked about it before. On the one hand, hey, so I don't like it. And---? It's not my pants tripping me up as I lumber down the streets. Why should I care? They're just dressing how they want. At least they're wearing clothes. And on the other hand, it really isn't terribly modest thing in the world. Yeah, they're boxers and all, but still.

Hats? I'm a big fan of hats. ^^ I have a Cardinals hat that's very near and dear to my heart. *lol* I don't particularly care for when guys wear trucker hats, though. They're just not my thing. *lol* But they don't hurt anyone, so in this case, whatever floats your boat. ^^
Love wins.

heh, in my school last year, there were these guys, who, for some reason, were running around. they were all doing the whole advertising-my-boxers thing, and what was amusing was that, as they ran, they had to constantly pull their pants back up. i honestly don't understand this little "trend." to me, it has no positive purpose, and yet, it seems to be staying. i need to start wearing a band to cover my eyes. it'll take a while for me to walk around properly, but i'll just train my hearing. it's well worth the work.

Baggy pants with underclothes showing may be a way of expressing oneself, but guys need to have some modesty too. If a girl at my school likes a certain guy, be sure she'll stare at him, and scrutinize every part of him. His attitude, behavior, and yes, his clothes. I hate to say it, but that underwear showing turns some girls' minds the wrong way. I've seen it and heard about it from the girls themselves. So guys, modesty isn't just a girl thing...

I don't mind gothic stuff, but I prefer blue on anyone! ^_^

One word for the pants: bleh.

That having been said, I'd like to say... anyone realize the recent 'clothes to wear' or whatever (I am so not good with the lingo so just... work with me please...) guys: as baddy and loose and hangy. Girls: as tight and small and showy. If that's not opposite I dunno what is.

Another thing, I dunt like it when these guys, on top of havin the droopin pants also slouch. I mean... they lose a foot worth of height cause they're bendin forward. Its so.. annoying. I just wanna walk up to them and.. straighten them.. >_. You know. Like a chiropractor. xD

The hats thing... I guess the way you wear a hat is your own buisness, but I don't like seein hats upside down. I dunno why... I guess I got a bad impression of it from off TV and movies. (I really should get out more.. v_V; ) I mean.. what they tryin to catch rain? >_. If the hat's right side up, I don't mind it bein turned backwards or anything.

Chains... they're ok I suppose. I wouldn't uh.. whats the word.. like? Go after? >_. I'm so lost.. *sniff* ;-; Anyways.. if I knew the guy was a Christian and had his heart right with God and knew what he was doin... then yah thats cool. But chaines usually.. eh... I dunno.

v-v I'm so unhelpful. *sniff* ;-; And I didn't know half the right lingo. I'm sorry! :waah!:

Aww, that's so nice that you have so much respect for your grandfather.

I find it completely unnecessary for guys to be walking around with their pants to their knees. No one really wants to see thier boxers, contrary to whatever they're thinking.

I find guys most attractive in jeans that fit and t shirts. I mean girls aren't like guys, who will check out the girls wearing the tighest clothes they can find. Most girls I know generally pay little attention to what a guy's wearing.

Tight pants on guys.... its just not cool. I REEEEAAALLY wish girls were pressured to wear those baggy pants though! Baggy pants are so cool. However, like just about everyone had stated, wearing you pants to your knees is not cool. I mean, a little sagging is okay, but there's limits. My brother sags about an inch or so, and it still looks normal. Its not like he's struggling to keep his pants up! He also wears very long t-shirts so his boxers don't show and it just looks cool. The thing is though, we have these dorky uniforms that it you don't sag look like highwaters. So almost all the guys pull them down a little. It doesn't make them look bad, it makes them look like normal pants. I see nothing wrong with that. Its not like when the girls roll their skirts like four times to make them shorter >.<

And chains look cool as long as theres not too many

Umm. . . yeah I hate to see underwear/boxers too. It shows a severe apathy and casualness to sexuality that is disrespectful.

If they pants a guy is wearing is tight, like bicycle pants type, that is just too demented.

Why should you care? Many reasons, but a biblical quote comes to mind. The one dealing with the lukewarm being spit out. You know, right?
'nuff said.

On comment. Chains look cool, but I find them impractical because they limit movement. Kinda like a little restraint. Plus I would be afraid of accidently hitting someone with them especially since I am a really active person. . .

oh yeah, I don't wear my gloves to church either. The last thing I want is another label. .

umm. NO. Don't get me wrong. I like loose pants, and I don't have a problem with chains, but the entire effect is disquieting.

Hehehehe, I just remembered something funny that happened at my church a while back dealing with baggy pants. The guys had all been wearing fairly baggy pants and one day we had a youth group relay game that involved putting clothes on, posing, and then taking them all off and running back to let the next person on your team go and do the same. We were all fully clothed in our regular clothes btw. Anyway, one of the guys on the other team put on the clothes and posed, but when he took them off to race back and let the next person go, his pants fell down and we saw his boxers. They were white with red hearts...I nearly died laughing. All the guys starting wearing belts after that.

So a little incentive to at least wearing something to hold baggy pants up, eh guys? ;)
