What's in a name?

Talk about anything in here.

Postby shooraijin » Tue Sep 22, 2009 7:46 pm

It's a contrivance from shoorai 将来 "future" and jin 人 "man." Actually, it sounds contrived even in Japanese; if you asked me to translate it back I would probably use a term like mirai 未来 instead. Just sounded neat at the time.

wow these are all really interesting...
i got mine from the main character in my main storyline (i have a lot of stories)
i added 'the shade' for two reasons, the formost being that it sounded cool. the other was that for a long time i was feeling kind of hollow and non-existant. it just seemed to fit...

I got my name because my nickname in Band is Squeakers...and has been for nearly 4 1/2 years. XD I just felt like changing it up a bit.

I was planing on being Ninja_Master due to the fact I could sneak up on my friend very well to the point they called me a ninja.

When I looked at other user-names when first joining there were three or four with ninja already in them so I changed it to the next best thing, Kung_Fu_Master.

The first part of my name I derived from one of the many names of God (Shiloh, in case you ask).
The second part, well, I've always kinda had a thing for ninjas, plus the fact that, now and then, I have, what some would call, an annoying tendancy to sneek up on people. XD

As for the handle, some of my friends were making a list of stuff they thought was awesome, and they put 'gas explosion at the scalpel factory' because they couldn't decide between 'sharp things' and 'things that go BOOM' - Haha. A little dark humor goes a long way.

On a more serious note, I've been through two bouts of life-threatening surgery, and the Lord's blessed me through it all! I'm still here, ain't I? ^_~

Mines not interesting at all
Derived from an old email account my mom made for me when I was younger (so then she could regulate it), my younger sister used to be twocool_girl (cause she was the second child/girl born).

Believe you me, this isn't the worst typo she's called someone in the chat. XDD

Anywho, my name is based off a character from a story I'm writing.

Well, I was hungry at the time.

Nah, actually RandomBurrito comes from two of the many things about me.

1. I can be a pretty random person, specially with my friends and cousins.

2.Burritos are my favorite food.

Yeah, not really interesting but it fit me. Haha :D.

I had thought I already posted on this thread, but just realized this is a new incarnation. My real name is Eric Fretheim. My surname gets pronounced "Fret Hime" or "Fred Hime" (in other words the t and h are separate sounds), so I have sometimes ended up with the nickname "Fred". Eric (or Erik) the Red (father of Leif Erikssen) is one of those national heroes that Norwegians are taught about growing up, so I dubbed myself Eric the Fred in his honor.

And miraijin is in fact the term Haruhi Suzimiya uses that gets translated as 'Time traveler'. Which is kind of cool to a Jazz fan like me, since 'Future Man' is the stage name used by Roy Wooten, Victor Wooten's younger bro and the percussionist for Bela Fleck.

"Phantom" because of my favorite character created by Gaston Leroux; "Sorano" because of it meaning "of the Sky". Put it together and boom!
