Reconciling Christianity and Anime

Talk about anything in here.

I think many people think of anime and automatically think of the hentai type out there (or the kiddie ones like Pokemon). They think you like that you like that and automatically assume you can't be a real Christian. They don't understand that not all anime is like that. Over the years, I have been abloe to convince my parents that the ones I watch and read aren't the bad ones. I started watchibng Toonami too (like Ashley was saying) and they flipped out. Now my parents realize that it is not all bad and it is just another form of entertainment in an animated form. Just like anything on TV, some things are bad, others not, so is anime, just animated. ^_^

I must say, this reminds me of going to bible.com and a lady explaining how pokemon was evil... url is here

http://www.bible.com/answers/apokemon.html

makes me mad

To be specific, one of the typical examples of the dark side of Pokemon is a character named Haunter; an evolved spirit that can hypnotize and has "dream eater" power (powered by the purple Pokemon energy cards which is psychic energy). This power lets him drain the energy from his opponents. Kadabra is another Pokemon character who evolved from Abra. Both characters have demonic powers.

Other philosophies are also evident in Pokemon and these are the demonstration of occultic powers in the games and cards. We also find the influences of New Age Cults, Wicca, Witchcraft, Paganism and Satanism in this game. In the practice of witchcraft, spirits are summoned and called to stay in a circle until needed to fight off bad spirits. In these practices they develop relationships with the so-called "good spirits" to fight the bad ones. This is totally against scripture as the only spirit we are to call on is the Holy Spirit to combat evil spirits with His Holy Angels. In essence these guardians or "spirit guides" that are used in Pokemon actually encourage children in the ways of witchcraft. In the Bible one of Israel's kings, Manasseh, was guilty of witchcraft and other sins and he was brought into bondage because of it.

nothign wrong with D&D.... its a board game... where dorks would role play and have fun... much like rpgs today, and Magic isn't "satanic" or whatever

In Pokemon, the monsters actually die to their old self and evolve into the new, more powerful Pokemon. This is the teaching of eastern mystery religions and is spelled out in the Egyptian book of the dead and other occult religions. Through this children are subtly being indoctrinated into the theory of evolution and mysticism of the eastern religions.

kids know the difference between pokemon and humans... and it's a GAME/TV SHOW... not real life. It's animated!!!

er, reconciling anime and Christianity? Isn't that kind of like reconciling paperback books and Christianity?

there is no verse anywhere in the Bible saying "oh, and don't watch animation where people have big eyes" or anything stupid like that. In fact, I wouldn't put it past God to produce some anime series himself.
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.

I have personal issues with anime and manga.
There are strong convictions against the things I see and hear in both of them. It is true that the things you see, read and listen to have a profound impact on the person you become. This is a problem that I am struggling with right now.
I wish that Christian Manga was popular with the pubilc and more widely distributed...because, truly, I'd rather be reading something worthwhile. But if I know nothing about anime and manga in general, what use is it? There's no way I am able to relate to fellow anime enthusiasts when I haven't the slightest clue about the real thing.
I guess I have to bear my cross about this thing...I know what the right thing to do is, but I just don't know if I have the strength to break away. I need Jesus to help me...and I need someone that can hold me accountable. Some of the stuff in anime and manga...let's face it...it's just plain evil!
And to have it in your mind...is to premeditate the sin! I want to be stronger than this, but I know I like this for a reason...maybe I just need to take action and do something myself to change this problem.
I want my mind to be pure. It's fine if it doesn't bother you, and I'm happy that you can watch that stuff and can block it out like that...but I can't. :(
I think everyone has to listen to the Holy Spirit, and they know in their hearts what they need to do...and my convictions might not be their convictions.
Sorry for crashing yet another thread with my problems...:P

Actually...I agree with that message about the Pokemon. There are roots in that which are evil.

Cowboy Bebop title definition: "Cowboy" refers to the "space cowboy" genre this anime belongs in--futuristic wanderers/bounty hunters/vigilantes, whereas "Bebop" is a type of jazz music and refers to the opening theme style and some of the background music used throughout the series. :)
