I heard somewhere that Christianity wasn't a religion because in religions you have to do something to get into heaven, but in Christianity God already did everything (you just have to accept it). Is this true? I made the mistake of saying that to someone, and now I think they're confused... So is or is not Christianity a religion?

It is a religion
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge

yeah it is. But I belive that the term "Christianity" has been serverly tainted. I think that the term Chrsitiantiy has took another term of what it orginally supposed to be: a follower of Chrsit into someone who does something good and goes to church once a while OR belives in God.

I've noticed many, many people in my school when asked are you a Chrsitian, they say of course. In my Sociology Class, more then half of the kids raised thier hands to saying "Yes, I'm a Christian". However, I know for a fact that don't live Chrsitian lives. I'm not saying "I know they're not a Christian" cause I don't but what I see from thier actions is like a bright neon sigh flashing on and foff to me.

These kids that raised thier hands use God's name in vain, use extreme amounts of profanity, drink every weekend (they're underaged), most aren't virgins, and alot things things opposite what Christians should be doing. Now, I'm not saying by all means if you sin you can't be a Christian cuase we all know that's wrong.

My Sociology teacher then went into say about Christianity, who actually follows what a Chrsitian to do. All the kids raised there hands.

He then went into to say "So you (try not to) don't drink, use God's name in vain, have premarital sex, do drugs, etc" and only 3 hands (me, and 2 other known Christians" has thier hands up.

I just think that the term Chrsitian now adays is bieng skewed by society into thinking you can just be a Christian by going to church once a while and be good. That's why I usually say instead of a Chrsitian, I'm a follower of Christ (or A Christian whoose is a follower of Christ). I've had to many people where I sya, "Yeah, I'm a Chrisitan" and they say "Oh, I am too...so you wanna go clubbin?"

! Interesting testimony there.

Anyway, according to my interpretation of dictionary.com, christianity is a religion ;)

That does communicate an important truth (Christianity is not works-based, and salvation is a free gift to all of humanity, in contrast with many other religions that are works-based), but it is an arbitrary and incorrect definition of the word "religion."

Question answered, thread closed. We don't need this lying around as troll fodder for someone to spark a nasty debate on. It's nothing against you Nia-chan nor any of you who responded, we're just being precaucious. Any thread about Christianity we have to watch really carefully, ironically enough, because of the vast variety of views here. Ok? If anyone has any questions or comments, please feel free to PM me.
