Screen Shot Problem.

Alright all you smart people. Lets see if you can answer a question for me.
I would like to take some screen shots of anime on my laptop. So i put in my disc and push the PrtSc (printscreen). This, usually works. But when i open paint and push paste, i get everything BUT the image. It blacks out the anime protion of the screen.
I have InterVideo Win DVD and i use MSpaint to save the image. So, the DVD system must black out the screen to stop people from steeling images, right? But i have seen places with screenshots of the actuall anime up on their sites. How do they do this? Do they use special programs? I am confused.
Anyone got an answer?

I don't know if this will help much, but have you tried pausing the dvd then talking a screenshot? When I tried to take a shot of something I had on media player once, it did the same black-out thing. *shrugs helplessly* Sorry I can't be of more help!

You could also try downloading a free screenshot application. I know Download.com has a lot to offer (just be careful about what you chose...they have had spyware issues in the past) or you could google for "free screenshot programs". I'm not sure if this will help your problem or not, but it's worth a try.

The best thing is to read/search the help files with the DVD software. Cyberlink's PowerDVD allows screen captures, and it will save the file for you using the setting you provide it in the configuration.... however with PowerDVD you have to turn off the hardware excelleration (though I've not noticed a real difference betwen the two).

Incidentally, for Mac users who want to do this, here's the steps:
1. Pause the DVD at the appropriate spot.
2. Hold down the shift and command (also called "apple") buttons and press the number 3.
3. There will be a picture called "Picture x.pdf" on your desktop, where x is one more than the number of pictures currently there.

Photoshop can edit the pdf image, if you desire.

EDIT: Hmm. This is not working in my 10.3 installation, now. Did apple rip this functionallity out?!?

To get snaps from DVD Player on Mac OS X 10.2.8, I actually had to use a third-party utility (unimaginatively called "DVD Capture", but free). Otherwise I just got black where the DVD window was.

I dunno if it works in Panther.
