Wolf mask I made

Postby Heart of Sword » Tue Nov 15, 2005 4:19 pm

Not done yet, but here's how it's going. Any suggestions? My other one had a moving jaw; this one doesn't. I call it "Bearwolf" because it's sort of bearlike in that the muzzle/snout is pretty broad. Wolves sometimes have broad snouts, and I liked this look. I'll be selling the masks I make. Believe it or not these masks go for $400-$700. O____o (You see out through this mesh window under the snuot. X3)

Erm, should this mebbe be in the art threads?

Ah well, it looks pretty awesome! The fur looks quite realistic and I really like the overall structure, and the ears rock ^_^

Pleas don’t tell me that you used real animal fur.

 I can think of no one less likely to use real animal fur for something like this.

Though that does lead me to ask what it is made of? I do think it is really good by the way. I think its awsome that you are able to transfer your interest in wolves into somthing with monatary benefits. Good for you!

That's an awesome effort! I'm sorry, but I think it looks like a boar head in wolves' clothing.

Eep! Never even thought of that when I was commenting on the realism, I think that Scribs is prolly very, very right though.

Now that seems a wee bit extreme, the muzzle is a little long in profile but it looks more wolfish in the 3/4 view. Plus, I think that the missing back of the head is increasing the long muzzle effect, it probably looks more proportionate when someone is wearing it. At least, that's what I'm speculating :eyebrow:

Oo, I know, it was definitely constructive criticism, I'm just rambling

Of course it's fake fur!!!! O____o In fact, it's fake WOLF fur. I got it from Wal-Mart and it's THE softest stuff I've ever felt.

The inside is chicken wire shaped like a wolf's head. The ears are chicken wire wrapped in duct tape because the chicken wire got sharp there for some reason and would poke out through the fur. The rest of it didn't have that problem. The muzzle has foam under the fur to shape it.

The snout is actually not too long. Wolves have long, broad snouts. (I can't see how it looks remotely like a boar, but whatever.) But it looks a lot better with the mane attached. Here's a picture of a wolf from the side so you see what I mean about the snout not being too long:
