Things not to type in a web browser

Postby Theallas » Tue Sep 23, 2003 2:48 pm

Several things you shoul not type into a search engine.

1. Sailor Moon and then acseidentaly hit the "h" button (really do not do this and if your do, I warned you!)

2. the word Lemon any where near the word fanfiction

3. DO NOT misspell dictionary, you will regret it

4. search on google for a word you just heard on a Forum (I did that with a, well vulgar word, and take a wild guess at what I got!)

Anything else that I forgot?

LOL, I second #4. Guess how an unsuspecting and very naive Inkhy learned the meaning of the word hentai? *shudders*

Do not do a google image search for "Funny Pictures". Because some of those pictures are wrong.... O_o

The terrifying moldy bread incident! In elementary school, Yomi's leftover bread started rotting inside her desk! you can't imagine what happened! Not only that, but the mold had a will of its own, it was terrible! Barricading ourselves in the science prep room, we used spirit lamps and engaged in combat! Then I realized it!! If we only had the bottle of mildew remover from the bathroom, we could destroy them!!

If you're easily offended, never, ever read a Gundam Wing fanfic with "1x2" in the summary. For you newbies to fanfiction, that is NOT a math problem.

By the way, why do I have the feeling this thread was a very creative attempt by a troll to get people to post links to bad stuff and ways to find it? Maybe I'm too cynical but. . .;)

Heh. I was at a conference last december, and the keynote speaker was having a bit of fun in her presentation. One of the bits was about protecting the conference's name: She did a web search for the meeting's acronym (which was Neural Information Processing Systems). The rest you can figure out yourself (since we were in Vancouver, the pictures were suitably censored with little maple leaves)
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Hmm... Actually, that's not what I think of when I hear that word... i think of a racial slur... I don't know what to think of that revelation.

An associate pastor at a church I used to attend decided to enter "foot" or "feet" into a search engine because of some foot problems he had....

I just laughed at him when he told me about it and then told him he'd have to be sure to be more specific in what he's searching for :D

He said he found some interesting sites at the top of the search

Yes, we have. Users registering with names like "Troll," "HACKER," "Tentacle," "h3n741," and many others. In fact if you want a chronicle of the trolling, go to these threads:

http://www.christiananime.net/forums/showthread.php?t=705&page=13&pp=10 It starts late on page 9, but this is the most accurate link to see the beginning of it.

http://www.christiananime.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1562 This was posted by me on the first night of the trolling and kind of grew. . .

Here's a thread I posted a while back on that http://www.christiananime.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1562

Basically, a troll is someone who comes to a messageboard only to post offensive, vulgar, or hateful material, or who posts in such a way as to intentionally incite fights ("flamewars") between himself and other members or between members.

One could say you did LOL, the average is one troll a day, although sometimes (like the night I posted that) it is really bad. (That night, we had at least 7 to 10 trolls-factoring in username duplications-sign up in the span of 5 hours. >.< )

My problem was that the Google imagefilter was blocking war images that i needed for a report, hence I turned it off.
