So anyway, I go online, and I get this IM from someone I know posing as a RIAA lawyer over IM today. Under his new username (RIAARep0922) I didn't know it was just a "joke."

The IM looked VERY official, basically telling me that my name showed up on a list of illegal music downloaders and that I am facing legal action for illegally downloading material from the Internet.

LOL, thing is, I never, ever downloaded music from the Internet aside from some completely legal MIDIs from a few fansites and a copy of "The Real Folk Blues" that a friend who has the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack posted on his site for me-which I deleted as soon as I had listened to it.

Nevertheless, the thought of getting sued was so scary that I was basically almost whimpering. I was saying things like "I never downloaded music!" and he was saying "We have evidence that you have."

After about 5 minutes of absolute terror, this person revealed himself as a poser. . . :bang:

I just wanted to warn you-if you get a nasty IM from the RIAA, it may not be from them. . .

yeah, that sounds about right. Would you still be laughing when they sent in the Specials Team? I bet the RIAA has some secretive CIA federal agent dudes with guns...

LOL, I thought I heard somewhere that the RIAA was e-mailing and sending IMs to suspected downloaders. Guess that was just a rumor. I'm so silly sometimes.

Well, at least one person in my area hear from them. Look to see if you are on the official *s* list before being taken, though.

There is a post to this list elsewhere, but I'll post it again if I need to. Look at their list, and if your username isn't on it, don't worry. The RIAA will not taunt you from AIM or email or voice mail. If the want to presecure, er prosacute you, they have to go through normal channels. This mean, unless you live in the USA you are home free. If you DO live in the USA, you only have to worry if weird people show up at your front door and say, "Consider yourself served."

Having been served, though, I have to say:

LOOK BEFORE OPENING THE DOOR. IF YOU DON'T RECOGNIZE THEM, DO NOT EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER OPEN THE DOOR!!!!!!!!!

This seems like a "DUH!" deal, but it really isn't.

djnoz : *throws 30 CDs rapidly into the guards, hitting all but one*
Guard 4 : *into radio* Backup! We need backup! *looks at MillyFan*
MillyFan : *throws 9 CDs into Guard 4*

guard 4 falls, and dies.

MillyFan : *drops rest of CDs in her hands into the ground and picks up the bag*
djnoz : *takes more CDs from his coat, 15 in each hand*

Elevator opens and security comes in

Security 1 : FREEZE!

djnoz and MillyFan looks at each other. then they run to the walls...
