Anger

Postby MsShinobu » Tue Jul 27, 2004 1:06 pm

I get so upset with myself because I have such terrible anger issues. Mind you, I don't mean the type of anger where I strike anyone, I mean the anger where I just get frustrated and hold it all inside. I don't really yell, I usually just hold it up inside and not talk to people.

I don't like being this way. I read the Bible and I find that does help. I'm just wondering if there is anything in particular that a Christian should do to help with anger management. I don't want to be an angry person. ;_;

I think I would say to look at what makes you angry--there's a difference between being angry because of something not so important, and a righteous anger. If it were me, I'd sit down with myself and think: what's making me angry? Why is it making me upset? Because I think I deserve to be treated better? Because things aren't working out the way I want them to? Because it looks like evil is triumphing and there's nothing I can do about it? I'd really search your heart and your attitude, and I'm fairly sure if you do so the holy spirit will move and convict you/encourage you.

You're absolutely right though, God doesn't want us to be angry people. But He did give us that emotion, and it's to be used rightly. Get angry about the things that upset God, and use that holy indignation to motivate you to do things about it, instead of getting mad that someone cut you off and letting that anger spur your tongue to say rude stuff. Does that make sense?

Also, perhaps you should talk to your pastor/leader/someone you trust. They might be able to give you some more specifics.

Be encouraged though, that Christ was able to endure more mockery and truly legitimate reasons to become angry and frustrated than we ever will and He triumphed over it in humility and meekness. And we have access to that same strength: we can do all things in Christ!

Thank you for the reply. It was a very nice post you made ^^

~~Don't mind me I'm just going to vent a bit~~

Some things that get to me are how I sometimes feel left out, that my mother had an affair and how it changed the whole family, that my Dad is somewhat of a cold person emotionally. It bothers me that my Sister doesn't listen to her Dad and yells at me when I try to talk to her about the way she behaves. I feel frustrated because I feel powerless. I get angry because I put my trust into people and have them stab me in the back. I get tired of deception and lies.

It's just like I don't know what to do anymore and I feel helpless.

Sorry for the rant but gosh did that feel good.

dont worry, MsShinobu! i do the same thing a lot of times. my reasoning is, i know its not healthy but its not healthy to burden other people with my most often trivial issues either so its ok if i just keep it to myself. when im ticked, (if this helps any) i usually read my Bible, write nice and angry songs or poems or prose, and listen to hard rock music. my personal fav is chevelle... but if you do have a problem, dont let it get out of hand, talk to someone if you feel the need to! i for one am always here if you care to send a PM just to have someone to vent to ~twilight~

The Bible says its ok to be angry, but when you let that anger make you sin, its a bad thing. And just to add to twilight's post, if you like video games, you can play a little to let off some steam (for me its Kingdom Hearts) Venting online (or even just in my head) usually helps me calm down.

I think you could use a good outlet for your anger. Holding it in isn't too good, although we all need to know when we need to hold it in. I'm glad your talking on the board has made you feel better. That's an example of a way to relase anger.

Another way: Sing a song that reminds you of your place in God's arms. I like a simple song that is easy to sing - like "Jesus Loves Me." Sing it out loud if you need to to snap your mind back into a good place.

Of course, nothing beats talking to the people you are mad at, if it's reasonable to do so.

Anger is a good, holy emotion, but we can't let any emotion rule us. My releasing these emotions and giving them to God, He will be faithful and transform our emotions to His.

Just in case you need one:

Vent on me anytime.

You mentioned that whenever you trust people they let you down, and they always will. No matter what person you put your trust in they will let you down even if they don't mean to. God is the only one who will never lie to you, or let you down. He is the only one who will always be there for you. I've found the best way to deal with anger and the like is to give it to Him. Pray about whatever is making you mad. Although video games and other stuff helps too.

Thank you very much for the replies. I appreciate it very much!

At nights, sometimes I lie down and listen to some relaxing music, playing videogames helps too. When my parents were getting a divorce, I played Tomb Raider and it kinda helped me to escape for a bit and for that little time I was running around the pyramids of Egypt or looking down over a huge beautiful watefall.

I just got back online after sitting down on my bed and reading the Bible. That really did help. Many of the things God says in the Bible are just so beautiful and heartfelt.

Thanks a bunch I really appreciate it ^^

i would suggest praying as soon as you get anger that will over whelm you and cause you to sin. Give it to God before you do anything.

I agree with ducky. God will never leave you nor forsake you.
People will let you down. As for me i would like to never let anyone down but i have many times. I have even let God down a few times (thanks God for his mercy and grace) Just show them that lie and let you down the same grace and mercy that God has shown us.

i will be praying for you.
I used to "Follow" Him because i had to....now i would give everything to follow Him.

Me check it out!
