I reviewed my European history in brief...

England is the smallest body of land. It, along with Wales and Scotland, forms Great Britain. The United Kingdom includes all three of these in addition to Northern Ireland. Its official name is actually the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Originally, I wanted an answer from someone from the United Kingdom because I thought that would be the quickest and most authoritative answer we could get in the forums.

Why is it that most of answers are for North America?

I'm from Portugal, a small country just next to Spain, and as i see I'm one of the 13,33% not from North America.
Maybe by thinking about it you can find some kind of an answer, that will help understand it, i would be glad if you do.

As I see that you seem interested in European History let me say that from its birth till now my country was under the flag of Spain for sixty of its almost nine hundred years of history. And it were we who found the marythim path to Brasil, India and Japan (actually they have some words from my language; though this makes me proud of my country, yes I know things are different now). Maybe if we win the euro 2004 (soccer), that is under way here, i can be proud of my country for its present instead of its past...

Yes, you in two hundred of years worth of history have more to tell than me, and it makes me sad that i know your history almost as well as mine and certainly better than you know mine.

My grandparents on my dad's side come directly from Ireland. Being mostly Irish (more than 75%) I have been raised to not like England for still holding on to that Northern part of Ireland. Mostly I am over that, but I still am not too fond of the English, but more fond of them than the French.

America, only because Japan's not a Christian nation... but wait, are they opposed to it? Hmm...

Whether or not America is truly a Christian nation is debatable. Even if we conceded the fact that it is, it is nothing to take pride in, for it is all by the grace of God that we in America are so privileged, not because of our military might, our intrinsic goodness, or for any other reason.

Lets see . . . I'm a military brat so I have come from many countries in the respect of spending time in one the most.
Let's see, I am an Americas (USA), but I have spent the other half of my life in Australia and then some in Panama. Soooo if you're going by nationlity, USA, if by time spent, USA/Australia. ^^

I can only assume because this site is in English and because tons of Americans have access to the internet and to anime (thanks to tons of people with cable tv). Also, there could be a cultural thing whereby more Americans are apt to use the 'net for blogging, chatting, and forums. I'm no sociologist, though, so I won't make that claim.

Thanks for that, I had no idea (my knowledge of geography is absolutely abysmal). Also, this is a good place to thank UC and others for clearing up the distinctions between England, the UK, and Britain. Thanks for that (you learn something new every day).

Um, that seemed kind of like a cheap shot against the French to me. I'm sure they cheap shot Americans in much the same fashion. If you don't like French accents, French Politicians (e.g. Jacque Chirac), or something more specific, I might agree with you, but just saying that you don't like "the French" seems a bit unfair. Like I said, I'm sure "the (ignorant remark of your choice) Americans" get the same cheap, vague disdain around the world that "the French" get in America, and I don't like it.

For the record, I'm an American. I know this thread might be prone to remarks about given countries, whether good or bad, but I still know this: we all live in, and were born in the countries we were for God's purposes, and although these purposes are sometimes unknown to us, it is clear that we should not despise (or boast in) the country of our birth, as this is ultimately determined by God, for reasons far beyond petty nationalistic pride.

Japan is not opposed to Christianity, there are merely extremely high percentages of non-Christians within the nation. Allow me to second what Saint Kevin said; Israel was explicitly God's favored nation, and He still chewed them out regularly.

Furthermore, we should (obviously) stay away from excessive nationalism, argument or political discussion that could well flow from what has already been posted.

I'm an army brat too, KisaTohru! I was born in Germany but my parents retired from the army after that and we moved to the US when I was one, so unfortunately my wordly expeditions haven't done me much good Since then I've lived in Virginia, New York, and now Tennessee. A lot of people think I'm Asian or Polynesian though. It's kind of amusing because I don't have a drop of oriental blood in me.

I'm from Scotland (rains lots!!), in the UK. The United Kingdom & Great Britain are the same thing, Scotland is the Northern country, while England is the Southern country, with Ireland being the smaller island of the west of the mainland.

Would love to live in Japan though...

Nice KT. I've studied Spanish for 6 years, but, as I learned when I visited Costa Rica, there is no substitute for living in a foreign country for learning a language. By the way Kisa, you need a close quote tag on that last post.

And hey, Yojimbo, I don't know how I missed this the first time, but that Ranger is actually petting a kitten with one hand, and has a gun in the other hand! How did I miss that? Cute picture anyway, I think it speaks to the heart that our fighting men and women still have, despite some of the terrible things they have to live through sometimes. So to you military brats here, tell your parents thanks for me. And thanks for whatever you had to endure for them to do their jobs.

Hey Roland! I visited Greece just a few months ago! First I was in Delphi, it was really beutiful there. Then I went to Athens, and whoa! Smog!!! Can't believe how people can live there O_o LOL I guess you get used to it, but I live in the countryside so...nope Athens is nothing for me. But hey, as I said Delphi was beautiful, and I would like to go there again ^_^

EDIT: Oh, and I almost forgot. Congratulations on winning the cup! (I rooted for Portugal though xD sorry)
