Final Fantasy and Star Wars

There was an obvious refference to Star Wars in FF9, where they did Yoda's big speech, but there is one that I didn't notice until just now... Luke's two friends' names... Biggs and Wedge! I suppose I just wasn't into Final Fantasy that much the last time I watched these movies, or I just wasn't paying that much attention to what they were saying, but that's pretty funny... Biggs and Wedge were recurring characters in Square games for a while (FF6, Chrono Trigger, FF7, FF8... maybe more)

You know, I thought of that while I was playing FF9.

Ah, yes.... that's why I love Final Fantasy 6 so much... plenty of little things that reminded be of Star Wars... even a good part of the beginning story... An Evil Empire fighting a courageous assorted group of rebels. Also, I recall that one part where Locke first meets Celes. He sneaks into that one jail dressed as one of the enemy soldiers and she asks him, "Aren't you a little short for a soldier?" ... yup, I'm a SW geek.

Whoa! Link, that is so true...hehe that does remind me of Star Wars A New Hope. Hot diggity, I guess I better go check out Final Fantasy VI to see what else I can see was influenced by Star Wars.

FF has lots of references to other parts of geek/nerd/gamer culture -
This website has a huge list of them. Plus lots of other good FF stuff!

That site was interesting... I disagree with a couple of the connections they make (such as "Save the Queen" sword... "God Save the Queen" was a song long before the band "Queen" existed.)

heh, yeah i noticed the biggs and wedge trend in square games, the chrono and FFV
I ones are almost identical too, and on a only slightly unrelated topic did anyone notice that wedge dies in "a new hope" and empire, well at least as far as i remember (and i payed close attention cause my brother pointed it out) when they go to attack the death star in new hope eventually it's just luke and wedge left, then right before luke gets near his goal and Han has to clear his path wedge gets blown up, then in empire on hoth luke and wedge are in the same ship in which wedge gets gets shot/sparked at/cuncussed by debree or whatever happens to knock him out, then the ship gets crushed, i'm 99% sure i'm right but if someone proves me wrong i'd be glad to know George Lucas doesn't randomly respawn characters
