GaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaH! Nooooooo! No no no no no no no no not now no no no... horrible... Sorry... I just despise that RE control scheme... Horrible scheme... Horrible, horrible, so confusing so retarded (in th bad way)... Oh, I hate that scheme... Gah! SO much... So much... Grrrrrrr.... I don't know if I'll be able to play through this whole thing with that horrid scheme...
SH2 and SH3 have the option to change the schemes to the much better "2d" controls... Man... Well, I hope I can beat it with these horrid controls... I'm not getting my hopes up.

Don't ya' hate that, when you go back to playing old school games and you're use to improved control?
You could try that emulater for the PC... it lets you play Playstation CDs on your PC. I saw it on yesterday's Call for Help, check out Techtvs site.
Well, good luck... I salute you if you can beat it! (Maybe the bad controls will increase the scare factor.

Indeed
BTW, Bob, isn't that the one with all of the street signs named after creepy stuff or is that the second Silent Hill? My friend was talking about something like that and bunch of other creepy easter eggs.

I agree...the game is nigh-unplayable with the 3d control scheme. I have SH 3, and it is an excellent game.

Yeah, Silent Hill... The graphics (circa Metal Gear Solid) are bad enough. I could have handled that (I still play MGS every once and a while) It's just that darned control scheme. I'm on Easy, and I've died numerous times... I don't know if my brother would be able to handle it...
I think Tomb Raider was the first game to use this scheme outside of a FPS... Using FPS controls in a 3rd person view is just a bad idea... True, some get used to it and then don't like going back but everyone would have been happy if they had used better controls to begin with. I think SH came after MGS... Why didnt' they use MGS controls?
One thing I like in this game, though, that they didn't keep is the way the camera moves in some places. It really adds to the effect. But, so far this hasn't really been scary as much as it has been frustrating (due to the controls and those bird things) I'm wondering whether it's a good idea to send it to my brother. He needs something to do, but this may just make him angry...
BTW, the "Street Sign" easter eggs are in every game so far. Also, I looked at your user title "nomad" and I thought it said "banned" Maybe this is "dark side" CAA...
Edit: Deliting something very inappropriate... Sorry... I didn't even know I didn't erase it when I first sent it...

Yeah, I've played some of the old Playstation games with the bad 3-d control schemes (but, not long enough to get use to the controls, if you can.)... I thought it was that I didn't like the controller. I still want to play the Metal Gear Solid game, after playing the Gamecube version.
I'm not sure if your brother will thank you to much for sending him that, if you do.

Well, that clears things up. Now to clear something else up..... the "banned" thing was an April Fools joke of mine, for the heck of it.
There aren't any demons lurking on CAA, just a few Trolls.

I was doing well, but then I decided to be stupid and cheat... It ruined my items list, and now I don't have some important items like the flauros or my radio or the flashlight... I had to start over... But, I made sure I cheated right from the start, so it didn't erase any items I had. I'm going through the game with a rifle and infinite ammo... Boy, is that fun...
A couple questions, though: Anyone know if it's bad to kill or scare those little black ghosts? What about the nurses and doctors... Unlike the nurses in SH2 and 3, they look like normal people except for jello like tumor on their backs...
I can say this has the worst monsters in the series... Too many animal type monsters (dog, pteradactyl, cockroach, monkey things) I very much prefer the monsters in 2 and 3...

They do have a different look, but they are enemies, and you are supposed to kill them.

The little black ghosts are just there to freak you out (I know I was pretty freaked when I fist saw them and wasted 5 bullets....). Anything else should be good to shoot at! You MUST get the UFO ending... Preferablly after you finish the game normally just to get the feel of the game before the UFO ending utterly destroys it. XD
Oh... man, I'm so used to the 3D controls that I play all three SH games that way, for some reason I find it gives me more control O_o;; I think it was Parasite Eve I and II that kinda frustrated me at times because I keep forgetting they're 2D controlled XD
And yeah, the... flying creatures (can't belive I forgot its name...) are just something out of Dino Crisis or like huge RE zombie ravens. I don't even know why those are in the creature concepts. But, the Pendulums in SH3 sure made me wish they were back. XD

I actually still like Silent Hill...you guys make me wanna cry by saying the control scheme stinks. Well, ok so maybe it did but I still like the game for it's eerie atmosphere and dark story. The ending was the best of the three, very very twisted. And in Silent Hill 3 those pendulums were frightening but what did it for me was the pyramid heads from Silent Hill 2....ahhh!

Which ending in SH1 was twisted? The bad ending [button="spoiler"](in the car)[/button], the bad+ ending [button="spoiler"](Harry... Go...)[/button] the Good ending [button="spoiler"]into the night)[/button], the good+ ending [button="spoiler"](repeat of opening scene with one small change)[/button] or the UFO ending?
I think the Bad+ ending (the one that I got) was the worst ending in the history of Silent Hill... makes no sense. The Bad ending was a tad bit better. It wasn't very twisted, it was just a nod to it's roots (no, not resident Evil... rather, the movie it originally came from) The Good ending is ok, and the Good+ ending is ok.
What I don't like about ANY of the endings in 1 and in 3 is that they're all too short. SH2 has the best endings in the series. The ending to wrap it up the best is the "In the water" ending... SH3, on the other hand, only had 3 endings, and 2 of them sucked... And one of them that sucked wasn't the UFO ending...
The new game coming up better have some better endings than 3 and 1 did... I am hoping for something to outdo the endings on 2. Maybe we'll see that.
There are a lot of scenes in the opening video that I never saw in the game... The House next to the pond, the greek architecture, the fight between Lisa and Kaufman... How do you see those? I also downloaded a video of another interaction between Lisa and Kaufman, but I never saw it in the game...

, I totally agree with you, the controls are just fine. If you can't get use to FPS then you can't truely claim yourself a "Gamer".
[/whispers]
And i just LOVE those fps controls.. *grins and snickers*
Actually, I got used to them in about an hour when I was just walking around, but fighting in close quarters was horrible, because the turning was slow. I still say the 2d controls are better. You can turn any direction on a whim. If i had a choice, i'd chose the 2d controls. If you can play something like Super Mario 64, you can play with 2d controls... See, Super Mario 64 was fun because of the excelent controls... Metal Gear Solid had solid controls, and they successfully captured the feel of the original MSX games. Silent Hill was made by a team trying to one-up resident evil (which they did) and it took them a second game to realize that the 3d controls just aren't for everyone. Like normal people. FPS controls are for FPS games, not for 3rd person games.
Why do you think that even RE wised up? Because it's a limited number of people that still use the FPS controls... They used those controls on RE and tomb raider because they didn't have a grip on controling in a 3d environment. Thankfully, we got Super Mario 64. It revolutionized game controls forever, but some felt the need to hold on (well, it was more like Ford in that it revolutionized things that were used together to make the first game of its kind)... Of course, SH only had the 3d controls because RE did, and they wanted to make it familiar to Survival Horror fans, otherwise they could have lost the battle. Because they had the 3d controls, Survival Horror (SH... Hmm...) fans grabbed on the the much deeper experience in Silent Hill. They would have been better including both, though... Maybe they couldn't fit another control scheme in addition to an 8 hour long game on one CD... That's one of many reasons it should have been 2 or 3 discs long...
I gotta say, though, the first game was inferior in other ways as well... There was only one part that really
startled me and that was the alternate world locker room... I thought one scene was sorta sad (you should know what I'm talking about if you've played) but the ending I got made me a bit upset... It sucked so bad... People can't say the series has gone downhill because of the ending to SH3... The bad+ ending is definately the worst. I only got the bad+ ending because I looked up a secret in the guide, but didn't look up the subquest, so I only saw the first part of it... Otherwise, i could have gotten the good+ ending...
Um... Yeah, so all I'm saying is you may like the 3d controls, but disliking bad controls doesn't make one a gaming wussie.

I just bought this today... after going through the trouble of tracking it down by going to TWO Gamestops...
I must say, I'm enjoying the game, but I'm a little dissapointed. It's just not as scary as the second game was... I have yet to get seriously frightened in this game. Maybe it will pick up...
Hopefully SH3 is better, and I'm looking forward to SH4.

How far into it are you, Azier? It should pick up soon, but considering you've already played SH2, SH1, being that it's a PSone game, might not be as scary, comparatively.
For me, i had some serious heebie-jeebies going about midway through the elementary school and the freak-o-meter started smoking when i got to the hospital. Of course, I work in a hospital, so that was especially freaky for me. Actually, I was just in an area somewhere in the basement last week that reminded me very much of the SH games. All dank and creepy, and there were half-lit little bedrooms for on-call staff members. Plus there were distant, ambient noises like hisses and clanks. I was fascinated by this place, but at the same time I wanted to get out of there.

I recently completed the sewer area... so I should be pretty much towards the end. I'm going to get try to get every ending... I'm going to start out by getting the bad ending first on purpose and work my way up.
SH2 did freak me out quite a bit, but SH1 just isn't having any effect on me. If I would have played it first it might have been different.
By street sign easter eggs, are you refering to the NAMES of the street signs? Because I noticed right off the bat that a lot of the street names seem to named after people, such as Crichton (sp?) Street, (Michael Crichton?) Bachman Street, (Stephen King's alternate pen name?) and Koontz Street (Dean Koontz?)

Yep, the street signs are names of horror writers. I believe there's a ton of other easter eggs but it's been so long I forgotten ^^;;
Sewer area.... my goodness, I don't even remember how far from the ending that is now. And to think I played SH1 to death...

The fact that the street names are named after famous horror writers brings up an interesting question: This is a Japanese made game. Are Stephen King/Dean Koontz/ect. popular in Japan?

I believe so. Besides, famous horror writers don't need to be famous in the whole of Japan, just to the developers. SH has TONS of influence from such as Jacob's Ladder. All the rusty chainlink fences... weird shaking faceless demons... etc. The SH team really are horror freaks, I believe it's a necessity when making a horror game. ^^
