Terrain deformation = very yes, but the style is unimpressive. Yay, it's another high-tech hardcore military type. I know, I know, "Isn't that what Master Chief is?" You're right ~ Spartan-117's character type is nothing revolutionary, but Bungie pulls off his character with simple aplomb.
If I recall, terrain deformation [of the shoot-stuff-until-it-breaks variety] was the theme of Black, was it not? Frankly, I think the game mechanic is great, but it won't sell games by itself. Hopefully, they get the essentials of a proficient FPS down and add something that's unique as well. I'm reading the LucasArts webiste, and they mention debate over genetic monkeying-around, which could be an interesting plot point, but 1] genetic modification/enchancement and cybernetics are old-hat as far as plot elements are concerned, and 2] you play a military demolitions expert ~ how much will these "ideological differences over genetic enhancement" actually affect him? LucasArts is billing him as "the next action hero", not some sort of warrior-philosopher. It seems that he'd be more concerned with terrain-deforming gunplay than intellectual/ethical wordplay.
I'll reserve judgment, but LucasArts has a few hurdles to overcome before my seal of approval, worthless as it is. ^_^
