LEGO is going MMO!

Lego has toyed with the interactive realm for many years (despite the absurd claims of "those were the days" columnists). But the success of the Lego Star Wars games must have finally emboldened the company to grasp the digital world's endless opportunities with both plastic hands.

The Lego Group is now working with NetDevil to develop a massively multiplayer online game - think Second Life but with easier-to-use building blocks.

"As children around the world continue to spend more time online we are developing new and engaging ways for them to interact with our brand," says Lego's Lisbeth Valther Pallesen.

"The Lego brand represents construction, creativity and problem solving - values that compliment the MMOG market. By merging the online world of social interaction with physical play, the Lego brand is providing new experiences for children, as well as fans."

How would you spend your time in an online Lego world?

I would be building enviroments and things like crazy...
unless I had to drop bookoo bucks to do it... thats the issue with second life is the sheer staggering cost of living and creating in its universe.

Hopefully LEGO will be doing little of the actual game-making, and will be largely lending inspiration. Their track record for games is lackluster.

Oh my gosh. I WANT THIS.

As long as there's no monthly fee, of course.

I never played any of the other lego games, but it's sort of disconcerting how, um, flexible these characters are... I used to be addicted to legos, and I know those little lego people could only move their legs forward and backward... These ones can pivot, they apparently have knees, they can do flips... Just something that's bugging me... If they're gonna make them flexible, why not use the technics or something, but I guess they want the iconic lego men. The video just reeks of badly done rigging test.

Now, the idea of building your own vehicles and probably houses out of Legos seems pretty awesome. It's just gonna take some time to get over the animation...

They've actually done that since the late 1990's, especially with games like Lego Island.

I'm willing to bet it's the old Ice Planet armor, which does look like saiyan armor.

Well, it was stupid then, it's stupid now... If you're going to make them flexible like that, at least give them extra mechanical joints, and don't make it look like the plastic is bending...

Ice Planet armour doesn't really look like Saiyan armour. I think the trailer showed Saiyan armour, because even the hair looked like Vegeta's.

I think it's called "creative use of artistic licence". Surely in a video game you'd expect them to do things a bit differently. I don't recall having read of gamers' complaining when they played LEGO Star Wars.

M'kay then. You could be right, since I haven't seen much Ice Planet in a while. I just find it quite hard to believe that LEGO would hit up Toei or Toriyama to use DBZ stuff in their game. Doesn't make sense to me.

Bobtheduck - hey, I think my last post may have come across as insensitive. Just wanted to say I wasn't trying to be, and apologies if you're offended.
