Ah yes! This will likely be one of the few games I make time in schedule to play. I hope it's truly as fun as it looks! Is there a definite release date yet?

Really? Are you talking about the US or Japanese release? I was under the impression the US release was farther away. Or maybe my brain is just worklogged....

Now now Tom I am ashamed the self-proclaimed CAA Rpg guy doesn't now what Okami. Just kidding. Its been rather obsure but its basically one of the most beutiful Ps2 games to be released and its ps2's answer too Zelda

I always thought Dark Cloud was the PS2 answer to Zelda. I now have to look into this.

Sorry to doublepost, but I don't see how this game has any similarity to any form of RPG. It's an adventure game where you play as wolf with Japanese mythology. Can someone explain this to me?

And in Zelda you play as a elf with a green pointed hat so......whats the point. Okami you level up and gain new abilitys so it is refered to a RPG on the forums we did call it that we are just saying what every one else is XD

Okami is yet another reason I need to get myself a PS2. It just looks and sounds so great.
Now a bit off-topic, you could technically say that ANY video games is a "Role Playing Game," if you really think about it. You're taking the role of a fictional character whilst playing a game, thus, you are "role-playing."
Holy snap, I just destroyed the concept of "genre." XD

XD I always though that myself .

Yes!! I rise against bias tastes in the gaming world! Down with genre-specification! XD
Back on topic, I gotta say that the boss battles in this game look crazy, especially Ninetails and the samurai germ (can't remember the name). That, added with the caligraphy effects makes me want this one all the more.

I think there is an explanation why other games are considered roleplaying, but unfortunately I have no freaking idea what it is.
But yeah Myoti, I see where you're coming from. XD

Do you have any tips for me when I do start it?

I hear you, I've been neglecting a few of my usual chores in order to play. As far a tips... the intro is veerry long and you can't skip it , so just bare with it. After that, have fun! The controls are pretty straightforward.
You might also want to check the notes in the back of the manual about Japanese mythology if you are unfamiliar with it. Okami draws themes and characters from many old Japanese fairy tales, and if you are familiar with some of them, you'll be that much happier.

Ah, O(with a line over it)kami. It's a beautiful thing, indeed. It's just the little things that make it so great. Like when you jump out of the water and stand there for a couple seconds, the wolf shakes herself dry. And if you get the attention of that other dog in the village, you can just run around and bark and play with it. And I love the move name "Exploding Implosion". What a great character that guy is, too...
I noticed that the battle system has no lock-on feature, but I, for one, actually prefer it that way. The disadvantage of lock-on when fighting multiple enemies in fairly tight quarters is that if you're focused on one, then the others will gang up and hit you from behind (e.g. fighting Fleamen in Castlevania: COD - best done without lock-on).

"It's your role... I mean mission"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, this is a type of 'role playing game,' after all. Raiden, turn off the game... You've been playing too long..."
Heh... That's what came to mind when you said that...
