By Old School, I mean before the Playstation came into existence. Here are some of mine:
- Sinistar
- Rampage
- Paperboy
- Lemmings
- Lode Runner
- Maniac Mansion
- Pac-man (especially Pac-mania, the first 3-D variant)
- the NES Super Mario games

Startropics
And I have yet to find more than one person who even knows what game that is...
Also, I'm a big fan of Fester's Quest, even though it was too hard to finish. Does anyone else think that games have progressively become easier to finish?

It does feel like it, although I haven't figured out if this is because games got easier or I just got better.

I've played StarTropics -- awesome game! ^_^ I'd always wanted a Zelda-type game in which the hero can jump over the bad guys.
As for other old-school games, I could name several from the days of the Atari 2600 and beyond but I wouldn't be able to think of them all.

Centipede, Joust, Pacman, Street Fighter II, Tetris Attack (aka pokemon puzzle league), Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Country, Food Fight, Samuri Shodown, Killer Instinct, R-type, Galaga, many more that will be disappointed I forgot them.
I think I like the old school games more than many of the new ones. There are advantages to the simplicity of so many of them, gameplay-wise, graphics wise.

Definitely Secret of Mana. And Kirby Superstars. I also liked Super Smash TV.
I'm not sure if it counts, but as a kid I also rather liked Escape Velocity for the Mac. I was so upset when we got rid of the Mac... TT

That's what I thought too until I went back recently to try to finish games I never finished as a child. I still can't finish them.

You are awesome for having played the game. Now that makes a whole whopping TWO people who have heard of it and played it xD; I heard they made a sequel...

Modern game designers traded extreme difficulty for longer game length. A number of those old-school games were quite short but really difficult. Any easier, and they would have been beaten pretty quickly. That's the easiest explanation.
As for Startropics, I've played that as well. I enjoyed what I played although I never finished it.
