Speech-to-text in Revo games?

Patent Link

This is the patent. Basically, it's saying that, not only will the revo convert speech directly into text, but can also change the text's color and size based on emotion.

Sounds cool to me. ^_^

BTW, desperado, this is just a discussion about something cool for the Revolution. NOT fanboyism. :P

*coughjustlikemylastrevothreadcough*

Thanks.

Sounds interesting, but every single speech to text program I've seen really sucks. XD

Yeah VERY true. :P

I've heard Nintendo's coming close to perfecting it, though.

Hopefully, they have. If they haven't, then they should at least have it near perfect by launch.

That is rather interesting. I am quite intrigued by this idea and have been hoping for something similar to this for quite a while *coughcoughtheyneedthisinmmorpgscoughcough*

edit

I only say that when it is, this isnt fanboyism this rather is "this system wins due to this even though its not out yet" not a direct quote but the idea of what i consider fanboyism. Anyone who says a system pwns all when its not out yet gets this title from me.

When I say something wins, that means it's very cool. NOT that it's better than the other two.

When I say anything pwns all, I'm usually joking when I do. Even though I'm sure I didn't.

AND I said it's only POSSIBLE that it will be in the system.

I'm free to give a thread any title I want. You shouldn't jump to any conclusion about ANYTHING being fanboyism until you know what's being said, nor should you judge the whole thread by the title.

*sigh*

That last thread you made was simply fanboyism. That doesn`t mean you intended it to be, but it was. Notice the title was: "REVO Wins!"

On topic, that speech to text idea would really work well for the RPG Maker franchise.

I`ve seen Text-To-Speec for this PC NHL game my friend had. It was sweet.

Honestly I hope they make this work. It could bring mmorpgs over from being more pc oriented to being with the counsels to.

lol, I've been thinking. This could get rid of all the 1337 speak on MMO's. :P

I can't even understand what some people are saying in online games.

"lolol liek teh mast3rr3r be me at teh sword b lol die."

"What?"

lol

Define fanboyism.

I wonder if this will only be optional, though.

I sorta do like hearing my opponents voice... ya know?

Define fanboyism.

"Revo WINS" = Fanboyism... It was claiming it won just because something interesting happened, when you don't have two of the systems (including the system in question) to compare it to. That doesn't say "Revo's features are cool" it says "Revo WINS" In the only inferrable context, it wins over the comparable competitors, IE 360 and PS3. I mean, if I were to say "Seahawks WIN!!" that doesn't mean they are cool, but that they had WON what they were COMPETING for, which they didn't...

Also, N getting a patent on speech to text doesn't mean they're the only ones that will use it... I mean, it's been around for years. They are probably simply getting a patent on their specific method. Also, it would be easier for Japanese than for english, because Japanese is much more straightforward of a language...

I'm going to try and explain this to all of you that label that as fanboyism. Even though I'm not the best at getting a point across on the internet, I'll do so anyway.

*ahem*

What I said was an like an inside joke. I mean, seriously. If the title of the thread was changed to "Awesome Revo Feature", it wouldn't be fanboyism, now would it?

Fanboyism = saying only x is great, while y and z aren't due to the fact that they aren't x.

Constantly searching for problems with y and z because they aren't x.

Not buying products, because they aren't of company x.

The list goes on.

How does a misunderstanding of what someone says, even after the person explained what they meant, make what that person said fanboyism?

Especially after the reader decided to judge the whole thread by the title?

You may have TAKEN it as fanboyism, but the fact stands that it wasn't.

Notice: the thread said nothing about Sony and Microsoft are going to die. Nothing about how Microsoft and Sony's systems (360 and PS3) are automatically not as good. NO that was something the reader assumed the writer meant.

For all you, the reader, knew, I meant the Revo wins against hamsters or the Revo wins against sweet bread.

An example of what I'm talking about:

Restaurant buffet

Person 1: "Hey... you wanna get your fork out of the salad?"
Person 2: "Hey, geez. Don't have to get mean about it."
Person 1: "I wasn't saying it to be mean. It's what I say. I say it all the time. My friends all know that."
Person 2: "Well... you're still mean for saying that."

Is the same as:

CAA

Person 1: "Revo WINS!"
Person 2: "Wow... such fanboyism."
Person 1: "... I wasn't saying that to be a fanboy. When I say something wins, I mean it's cool. I say it all the time. My friends all know that."
Person 2: "Well.... That was still fanboyism."

But wait, here's another.

Person 1: "Hey, what do you think of my latest drawing?"
Person 2: "It sucks."

they laugh. when person 2 says something sucks, he means it's pretty good. They have conversations like that all the time.

Person 3: "Hey... That was very rude."

Person 2: "Huh? oh, We say stuff like that to each other all the time. It's like an inside thing."

Person 3: "You're still rude for saying things like that."

On topic:

Yes, I know that. In fact, I use text to speech on my computer all the time.

I just think the text-to-speech with the few extra features is kinda cool. That's all.

Well, we may be your friends on the internet but friends on the internet are different than friends offline.

When you type, sarcasm isn`t noticable because there are no facial expressions or tones of voice included.

Therefore, by saying "REVO wins" I am getting the message that you think it dominates PS3 and 360.

Before I get back on topic, I would like to make a suggestion to SK.

Ahem...

Do you think it would be a good idea to make a thread specifically on all of the Revo`s funtions would be neccessary? it seems like SK has made quite a few threads on the different functions of the Revo.

Yes, I've basically already said that in my message. It still doesn't make it fanboyism, as I've explained to you what I meant.

What I was saying wasn't sarcasm, it was basically like an inside slang, if you will, so facial expressions have nothing to do with it.

If you didn't know me, and we were sitting in the same room, and I blurted out "Revo WINS!" you still would have labeled that as fanboyism.

Now, I'm sorry if I created a misunderstanding by saying something that I normally say (which I apperaantly have). But you can't tell me what I'm trying to say, if I'm the one who said it and explained what I said to you already.

Other topic:

This is my second one Revo feature thread. There's Revo displacement and this feature.

I've already considered doing that, but I'm going to do it when I have enough features to make a new thread with. As of now, I've only found 2.

I was once told by someone about a obscure text passage in one of my stories this "you may know what you mean but its the writers duty to get across what he/she means.

Things have backfired quite a bit since calling me out, huh... But honestly I had put that issue aside and was quite intrested in what you had to say besides that for the original post. It is quite awesome that they are working on a new way to do voice to text. I tried one of these programs this week and it was buggy as all get out, you had to shout and talk s u p e r s l o w l y w i t h n o e m o t i o n. If the N improves on this technology I would be eager to see its applications. Its staggering to think how this could merge the counsole with the mmorpg. Heck we could even have portable mmorpgs!

But back to what seems to have gotten a stranglehold on this topic, the topic from a looonnnggg time ago. What was posted was posted, you may have not ment what came across but a good number of people thought that. You called me out because I did in that topic what I tend to do when I see fanboys/fangirls going crazy on stuff K.O.S. against what I see as fanboy/fangirl twisting. Go off the defensive take what happened as what happened and move on.

Ill see how this topic develops sunday night when I return from a midwinter retreat for my church. Hopefully the angst will leave. And Tom Dincht I agree I think there should be 3 new threads. One for each system, flaming of the system not allowed, legitimte concerns allowed (such as with the 360 worry about or having problems with it freezing up a lot (was in eb games and some poor fellow tried to take his back for this defect and they said they get in 2 a week and have abou 20 preorders left!) Also I dont think that bashing of other systems should be allowed in any of the topics. I think mods should enforce the rules of that topic.)

Guys, CALM DOWN. This is NOT worth getting a thread locked, okay? And dude. A rule not to bash things? Maybe not mercilessly, but who freakin' cares if I come on a thread and say, "Xbox 360 sucks."

Granted, there are laws of decency. I wouldn't go in a thread about Xbox 360 and just start posting, "Xbox 360 sucks." That's rude. But if I'm in a thread talking about, say, the Revolution and I go, "Yeah, I'm so getting one because Xbox 360 sucks," what do you freakin' care?

Seriously. I wouldn't get mad if you started saying, "Revolution sucks!" Maybe not in a thread devoted to it (because it's rude), but if you posted in a thread somewhere saying that, what do I care? Some people don't like Revo, some don't like Xbox 360. Without being jerks, we should be allowed to voice our opinions.

And that's all I have to say about that.

I was talking about a rule not to come in and go off on a system if they made the three topics. I would have thought it would be better if it would have been civil discussion in the thread with mods keeping the "omgz 360/ps3/revo suckz" kind of junk out of the thread dedicated to it or in say the ps3 thread not say yeah revo so sucks im getting a ps3 for sure because of how much revo sucks, that would naturally start a flame war and that is why I say it should not be allowed. Wasnt talking about the whole borde.

Honestly I do "freakin care" if they made the three threads and someone came in and was a jerk, because it would start flame wars, break the civil discussion about a system the obviously want or are considering getting.
