It's good to hear that the game has an official release date for Japan, but what about America? Earthbound wasn't much more than a cult classic here, and I'm not sure if NOA will find that as a good enough reason to bring it here.

Don't misunderstand me though, I'm a *HUGE* Earthbound fan. Earthbound is one of my favorite RPG's of all time, but I'm just trying to keep a realistic view on things. I mean, we didn't get the Mother 1+2 port on GBA, so I'm not so sure we'll get Mother 3, either.

Old news for me.

Never tried an Earthcound game. Do you think this one will be realeased stateside because I`m pretty sure the 2nd one wasn`t. How was the 2nd one bTW?

And what is the combat system like?

A not-so-short description of M2:
Earthbound (Mother 2) is a great game. The story is good; it tries to be serious but keeps comedy involved as well. The game isn't terribly difficult, which is kind of unfortunate. If there's ever been an RPG that needed a difficulty setting, it's this one. But still, the characters are all very memorable and unique in their own ways, and all are psychic, with the exception of Jeff. The game is also very strange at points, especially the Mr. Saturns (I love Mr. Saturn!!) and the weapons and items that you can end up using are strange as well, including a wide range of items such as baseball bats, bombs, teddy bears, frying pans, fireworks, a sword, laser beams, a pencil eraser and an eraser eraser (which are *NOT* what you think they are, I promise ^_^), and a pair of smelly socks. Over all, if you're looking for an epic RPG with all sorts of deep twists and turns, then go play Final Fantasy. If you want a good, clean, fun RPG, then Earthbound is what you need to play.

The combat system isn't like most, though, as it's text based. At the bottom of the screen, there are 1-4 windows that represent the character and tell you their HP/PP. At the top is the command box that, well, has all the commands. You don't actually see your party during combat; you only see the enemies (kind of like a first person view). Once you enter commands, the command box becomes a scrolling text box that tells you what's happening (like, "Ness attacks! The New Age Retro Hippie takes XX damage!").

The game is just so darn crazy in everything (like the Pencil Eraser and Eraser Eraser XD ). I never did finish it, though... >_>

I like Mother 1 better than 2, but that may only be because I started with 2...

I can't wait for Mother 3, though... I hope they don't start a screwed up numbering system like they did for Final Fantasy... Earthbound 2 (mother 3) They should call it something different entirely if they're gonna do that...

What happened to the Mother 1/ Mother 2 set on GBA? They should have released that here, they allready had mother translated into English... Oh, that's RIGHT!!! They threw away their only copy... Sold it at a flea market or something like that... Stupid Nintendo of America... Of course, RPG's weren't popular in the US then... If they had released mother 1, we may have never seen mother 2 get a US release...

Oh, and dragonquest style ("first person") RPG battles are stupid, but I tolerated that...

anybody go to starmen.net? I am a member there. We had a petition to try to see if Mother 3 would be continued to be developed for the n64. Sadly that project was scrapped

I don't know, this series has been pushed back before. While I'd like to see another game in the Earthbound/Mother series, I have to admit I'm cautious in becoming excited.
