Why do RPG's always have characters with strange weapons? What's the strangest one you've seen? Here are some of mine:
  • Drum (Janice in Chrono Cross)
  • Brush (Relm in Final Fantasy 6)
  • Megaphone (Cait Sith in Final Fantasy VII
  • Gunsword (Squall in Final Fantasy 8)
  • Blitzball (Wakka in FF10)
  • Keyblade (Sora in Kingdom Hearts)

Well, there's Princess Peach's frying pan in Super Mario RPG, and whatshisface from Tales of Symphonia(that DOES IT! I'm playing it again so I can find out his name!) had handcuffs...but he fought with his feet, but that's beside the point. Sorta. Kinda.

GUNBLADE!

And Lilka in Wild Arms 2 has an umbrella.

This is totally off topic, but I'd like to say at this point that the Drill Gun from Turok is the coolest weapon in any video game ever. Word.

RPG - Rocket Propelled Grenadier.
It launches a guy who's carrying a bag of grenades, and he drops 1d4 grenades on the enemy.

When my rpg system gets finished it will rock.

._. Oy. I haven't played enough to know much, but that one's pretty cool. I take it oversized swords are the norm.

Paula in EarthBound also used a frying pan.
In Morrowind's Bloodmoon expansion, Vampire - Bloodlines, and Arx Fatalis you can use a severed limb.

The Gunblade was AWESOME.

How about Mario and Luigi hopping on enemies as their main attack? :p

I always thought the dictionary Calculators and Oracles used in Tactics to be a little misplaced among the loads of deadly weapons found in the game. Well, I guess math can kill. Heck, I've gotten a migraine during a math test.

Anyways, you can also never forget strange enjoy from beating up Retro Hippe's with cracked baseball bats and yo-yos in Earthbound.

That was Cid. Aeris had the Staff.

Ah thats right. I don't know why but for years I've always thought Aerith had the mop, even after playing through the game several times and having Cid use it...

Aerith DID have the Umbrella though! Although not quite as strange as the Mop, still odd.

Not really an RPG, but most characters in Soul Calibar II has their own joke weapon. Xianghua with a caligraphy brush, Talim with those weird weights, etc

Setzer used playing cards in FF6. Most of the ones I would've mentioned everyone else has already said.

In Skies of Arcadia, Fina has a fierd alien creature that morphs into various weapons. That's the wierdest "weapon" I've ever seen.

Most of the weird ones have already been said.

Chrono Cross had some strange ones. Nikki breaking his guitar over his opponent's head...

Then, it wasn't always the equippable weapon that was strange. Marcy's techniques involved attacking the enemy with string tricks.

And don't forget about Yoshi swallowing his enemies, passing an egg, then using it as ammo. ^_^ Or his simply holding one in his mouth and stomping sand/breathing fire/(don't remember the others), etc.

Who uses fists in an RPG? Pff.
