The title is pretty self-explanatory. I got permission to put this poll up, so let`s get started. I`ll post my opinion soon.

permission?
Why'd you get permission to put up a "what's your favorite" poll?

Well anyway, I'm not going to answer until I play FF7...

Skies of Arcadia and Paper Mario! That's where it's at. The FF games are great, but these are the games that got me into rpgs in the first place.

At the moment I'd have to say Star Ocean - I haven't played the first game, but I found the 2nd and 3rd games incredibly enjoyable, and Blue Sphere wasn't bad either. So overall, Star Ocean is my favorite.

I IMMENSELY enjoyed Grandia II and Final Fantasy IX as well, but I haven't found the same levels of happy in the overall series. =) Kuja from FFIX is my all-time favorite RPG character, though, which is amazing considering he managed to outrank Ashton Anchors from SO2.

Star Ocean for the Super Famicon (Translated) and Star Ocean The Second Story were masterpieces. Till the End of Time was one of the biggest letdowns in gaming history to me.

Either way, with the exception of TTEOT, the Star Ocean series holds a place in my heart.

The permission thing is because there have been polls similar to this before.

I had to choose Final Fantasy because of the Golden Age of Final Fantasy or RPGs for that matter (6 Through 10).

I`m aware there are tons of great RPG series I haven`t listed, but I wanted to keep the number of series at a Ten.

It was down to Grandia, Final Fantasy, and Star Ocean.

I found TillTheEndOfTime better than the other one I`ve played, The Second story. The Second Story was better until you got towards the end. I never got to beating So2 but i did beat So3.

I don`t see why everyone loved Ashton Anchors in Star Ocean 2. He was obseesed with barrels and had dragons.

Knights of the Old Republic -

This is easily my favorite RPG series. These were the Star Wars games I -- and the rest of the world -- had been waiting for. The ability to choose your personality and have it affect play had never been this fleshed out. I, of course, was Light Side all the way, but I did try dark side for a short time. Man, too evil for me there...

Anyways, this is one of my all time favorite series, simply because it made me love Star Wars again. It was so much better in plot, character, writing, theme, and depth then that prequel garbage.

Runners Up:
Fire Emblem
Final Fantasy

That's why, my friend. He was definitely a departure from the stereotypical RPG character, that's for sure, and I think that's where his appeal was. If the SOEX anime wasn't so...mediocre, I'd say watch it and see Ashton go. Sorta. >_>; If he doesn't like, trip over his cloak and fall down a hole, or something.

I'll have to say Final Fantasy, but that mostly rides on FFVII. XenoSaga has specacular visuals, but VII has been my best experience with an RPG. It got me hooked on the genre.

I thought Grandia II was the most in depth story wise... I just wish they hadn't been so virulently anti-religion in that game. I think I would have enjoyed it much more if it had been otherwise.

Termyts remarks on Final Fantasy are in sync with what I was going to say, so I will not bother to say what I was going to say.

Final Fantasy and Resident Evil. o.o

Yeah, FF10 and FF7 got me into RPGs.

Scepth: Resident Evil.....I hope you are joking.

Oh yeah, a quick BTW. I meant Traditional RPGs, not Stragetic such as Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics, ArcTheLad, and Vandal Hearts, and not Action RPGs lik Dark Cloud, Zelda, Knights of the Old Republic, ect.

I meant traditional Rpgs. Star Ocean seemed like a smack dab mix of Action RPGs and Traditional, but since battles and dungeons were different envireonments, I decided that Star Ocean was a normal RpG. What i mean is:

Strictly Turnbased.

When it came down to it for me, it was FF vs Suikoden. FF only won because the only really good Suikoden game was Suikoden 2. 1 just can't compare and 3 and 4 were huge letdowns (although I thought 4 was better than 3).

Final Fantasy really only won because of FF Tactics, FF8, and FF7 (in that order). FF Tactics was, IMO, the greatest Final Fantasy they ever made, and it's sad that there probably won't be another one quite like it, or quite as good as it. FF8 had a great story, certainly much better than 7's, and although I like the junction system, the Materia system was just brilliant. Now, don't misunderstand me, I liked 5 and 3/6. They just weren't as good as the three I listed earlier. However, my liking of FF basically ended with the release of 9, 10, and 10-2, which were all horrible disappointments to me.

And to CookinLikeSanji: Why did you hate SO3 so much?

He never said he hated it. It got award for best RPG of 2004, but then again, that was the "Dead Silent" year for RPGs. All in all, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time is on my definate Top 10 list of games but I never pay attention to Voice Acting ever.

I agree. ^_^; I LOVED the game, but the voice acting often made me laugh or cringe. (Farelene, Belzeber...@_@ Ugh) The only voices I really liked were Cliff's and Albels...=X

Dude, you totally freakin' rule for saying that. 1,000 cool points for you.

And to CookinLikeSanji: Why did you hate SO3 so much?

I'm not Sanji, but I can tell you why I hated SO3.

First: The music. Sorry, but the music playing during the first "dungeon" on Whipple (by the way, whose freakin' bright idea was it to name the planet after an old man who sold Charmin'? That's the dumbest planet name I ever heard) was absolutely horrendous.

They destroyed the skill system from the previous two games...what happened to skills like Cooking, Scientific Ability, Piety, Strong Blow, Flip, Feint, Herbal Knowledge, Writing? GONE, that's where. And I give that game 1,000 negative awesome points for that.

Oh, speaking of skills, Item Creation in 3? GARBAGE. Absolute GARBAGE. You could create items anytime, anywhere in SO and SO2, not just in a workshop, and it required NO money aside from the purchase of raw materials. And it was a whole lot simpler than that retarded "bar" thing they had going on in SO3. You picked an Item Creation skill, like Metalworking, and then you pick the item you want to use (Iron, Gold, Damascus, what have you) and choose "Start." You then see the item you picked being turned into another item through metalworking, and end up with one of three results: A failed item, a new item, or a mystery item that would require the Identify skill to see what it is. Once the process was done, the item you started with was consumed, and it was over.

Best item creation system EVER. And SO3 destroyed it, along with the awesome skills that the first two games had.

Oh, and finally, three person parties = thums down. :thumbsdow

I had my issues with the game, but I still enjoyed playing it. I never played any of the other SO games, but I really enjoyed SO3 over all.

For the most part, though, I agree with the points you guys made. I didn't like how much money the IC system ate up (I actually used up about 6,000,000 fol to make 1 weapon), and the music did suck with the exception of about 5 songs that I liked.

My good buddy Kaem there pretty much covered why I dislike SO3 so much, it simply fails in comparison to the previous 2.

The thing that REALLY ticked me off though...No pickpocketing!

That`s why you guys apparetly don`t like it. All you guys do is "COMPARE." I played So3 before So2 and I love them equally. The Item Creation system in Star Ocean III was fine it just was nowhere near as good as the one in 2.

As for Final Fantasy Tactics I can`t agree. The story IMO was kind of weak and the gameplay was equal or maybe even worse than Fire Emblem (I like Fire Emblem, BTW. I`m not dising, i just find Fire Emblem average). FF7 is WAY better IMO.

Final Fantasy VII, the first 3d graphics on the Final Fantasy series by SquareSoft 1997, too bad now it's Square-Enix, just a comment, i liked the ff series better especially when it was still made by SquareSoft. What do you guys think?

The fact FF isn`t as good since after the merge is a coicidence. The only thing different since will be music since

Did you know that FF7 was the first fully 3D RPG ever made?

Why didn't you list the Mario ones?! I know you hated "M and L", but that doesn't change the fact that it was a good, innovative, and downright fun game. And the shortnest of it actually was good, as it means it was easier to get back to the good parts. I mean, there's been several RPGs I beat then thought "That was good, but I think I've had enough." I don't feel like that with the Mario ones.

After that, I'd go with Final Fantasy, for several obvious reasons.
I still gotta play the first Star Ocean, but I can't get a Romulated copy and translation patch that works! XO
Actually myoti i changed my mind about Mario and Luigi. I looked at it in a different perspective. I`m into more serious RPGs and I listed the ones above because most people prefer all of those over the Mario games. I wnted to keep the maximum at 10 choices and there is an "Other" section so yeah...

FF Tactics, though, was just a rip-off of Climax's Shining Force.
