Are the newer, slimmer PS2's any good?

I'm thinking about picking up one of the new, slim Ps2's. I've talked to a few friends that say the new one's actually last and don't give the disc-read error like the old ones. Do the new PS2's actually last or do they break a few months after you buy them like the old one's did? Also, anyone have any ideas if Sony will drop the price during the holidays or do you think it'll stay around 150?

Well, the motor broke in mine somehow (the discs won't spin), and I've had it since last Christmas. I don't think it has
anything to do with the fact that it fell down from on top of the TV.
That was around 6-7 months ago that happened, though, so I'm not really sure.

I've had mine since January and it works rather nicely. The only thing I don't like about it is that I can't attach a hard drive. (Bye bye, chances of playing FFXI.

generally the new ones work better... however disc read errors can be a pain in the butt. They are ways for you to fix disc read errors (I myself have fixed my own ps2)

I can`t fit my PS1 memeory cards unto my friend`s slim PS2. His work just fine though. Overall, I like my old fashioned one better. I`ve had it for 3 years and I havent had a single problum.

I've had my slim PS2 for almost a year now and I haven't had any problems with it.
