Metroid Movie

Anyone heard about this?
The rights were originally bought up by the creator's of "American Pie" and "Dreamcatcher", but they let it slip by so the rights have now gone to John Woo. I was impressed with his work on "Paycheck", so maybe...
I won't go all fanboy-ish yet, as I begin looking back on the typically outcome of VG-Movies. Maybe this'll be a good one, maybe not. We'll have to wait and see, possibly by 2006 (if they ever get around to making it).
Still, as long as they've got Samus with all her gear, Ridley, the Pirates, and Metroids (duh), and a large base/ship/planet getting blown up, I'll be happy.
Oh, I've also heard rumors about a Halo movie. I believe it's being done by Universal and Microsoft told them they are not allowed to change anything (which means we'll avoid instances similar to putting evolution and dinos in the Mario Movie -_- ).

I've also heard of this, and I don't know what to think, honestly. I'd LIKE to believe a Metroid movie would be totally kickin', but...I thought the Mario movie was going to be like that too. Then, they came out with that lame piece of garbage.
Though I have to admit, Super Mario Bros. was a charming bad...the kind of bad you can't help but laugh at, and you can enjoy it for how bad it is...I bet Dennis Hopper wishes he could forget that one. XD
Unfortunately, most video-game movies just turn out to be plain bad. I'm not holding my breath on this one, but it would be a nice change of pace if it was awesome.
Yes, it has to have Ridley in it. It has to.

I'd like to believe it would be good too...but I'm very pessimistic about it. Especially with a female lead character. You know how Hollywood is about things like that :/ And playing around with storylines. I know you have to fill things in a bit and mess with details for time's sake, but...I can't help but think it's gonna be drivel. It would be cool to see a movie-style rendering of Ridley and metroids though! XD

Yeah, I've heard something about it too. I don't know, I really like the games and all, but I don't know if there's enough story to make a good movie... *Shrugs*

Hmm... There is just enough story in Metroid (all 6 games) to put together a good action movie or two... And that's exactly what Metroid should be: An action movie...
John Woo does good action movies... I think there's hope... What scares me is Cristophe Gans doing Silent Hill, because "Brotherhood of the Wolf" is not how I picture the Silent Hill movie being. It's too slick, and I'll seriously cry if Silent Hill ends up being slick like that... I'll have to see, though.

In my opinion, it'll be hard, what with Samus having never said anything ever.

they could do it like they're doing that doom movie right now. Lots of First Person scenes.
(read about that at

Samus never talks.....and they aren`t allowed to change anything.
Well, forget that.

Well they're obviously going to have a blonde actress that will speak.
John Woo hasn't quite got it yet but it's optioned at least. He could do a decent job with the license.

I think they should have UC Pseudonym write the screen play.
Anyway, I hope that they do it right. If they make it stupid that'd be a huge shame. It'd be a great oppurtunity lost.

Samus spoke numerous times.
She spoke in the opening part of Super Metroid...or at least wrote a personal log entry, which I count as speaking since SNES wasn't much on voices.
In Metroid Fusion, she held conversations with the computer a bunch of times. That's how you find out who the computer really was, because she says it.
So, Samus DID speak. You just need to play more Metroid.

Yeah, Fusion had the most of a storyline in the series, but they'll probably be basing it off of something earlier than that. They'll need to have more of a cast than just Samus, that's for certain, so having someone like Adam Malcovich (Fusion) could add a bit more.
Oh, and if it's stupid/doesn't meet my requirements:
John Woo + Morph Ball + Bomb = ^-^
BTW, there's currently seven games, not six:
Metroid
Metroid II
Super Metroid
Metroid Fusion
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Metroid: Zero Mission
And Metroid Hunters and Metroid Pinball (yes, you heard that correctly) will both be coming out sometime for DS.

Halo and Metroid are good enough games to make really good movies off of. Doesn't mean they will though. Out of Metroid, Halo, doom, silent hill, and that other one
DBZ, I think at least one will be good.
Although I fear an R rating for Metroid, Doom, Silent Hill, and Halo. Delaying me from seeing it. But I'll probably be old enough to see them by the time they decide to start making them. No probably not. I'll probably be to old.

Metroid will probably be PG-13. I can't see having a family-friendly game given an R-rating, especially since most of the violence will probably be monsters blowing up.
Though you can't trust anything you read on the internet, imdb.com has a tentative release date of 2006 for the Metroid movie. Granted, I'm sure that'll be subject to change, but still, you won't be too old.

Metriod is the only one you mentioned I think won`t be R.
I can`t wait, since Jessica Simpon decided to be an actress starting with Dukes of Hazaard she agreed to be Samus. I csn`t ait to see her blasting creatures to peices.

I`m just kidding. If anybody, the best blonde actress that`s famous for being pretty I can see playing Samus is Jessica Alba. Except, I heard she did a bad job in Fantastic 4, but this was People magazine.

I think it was just a casting error. They take one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood and make her INVISIBLE? Oi.
At any rate, Silent Hill is DEFINITELY going to be R. Duh. Halo probably will be too, it depends.
Going back on-topic, I can't think of anyone that would make a good Samus. Their best bet, I think, would be to go with some newer, not-well-known actress to play Samus.

Another movie for Uwe Boll.

Maybe an unknown blonde actress. They shouldn`t maker her glamourous because that didn`t match Samus` character. But Cameron Diaz kicking but in a robot suit.....she is slightly acceptable. But everyone else....no.

No offense, but a metroid movie sounds kind of dumb. I mean it's a great game, but it should stay a game.

We really know zilch now, save for the fact that John Woo is doing it.
If anything, they need Nintendo themselves to back it. I mean, look at FF7: AC. SE is doing it directly, so the chances are it's going to be amazing. Why can't other gaming companies realize that?

Yeah it sounds cool but I am not to overly excited about it just yet . Most games turned into movies end up pretty bad. I just hope they do ok this time around! I would definitely like to see Samus blast some aliens xD Oh and yeah the Halo movie is in the works Universal and Microsoft finally struck a deal that they both could agree on.

That's also an animated movie. And I remember people saying how awesome Spirits Within would be, even me, but it obviously wasn't. Anyway an animated doesn't have to deal with the hassle of hiring celebrity actors in most cases, getting a crew, transporting/sustaining the cast and crew, building a set, props, transporation, dealing with execs of movie business, so on. And of course Advent Children won't be having a theatre release so there ya go. Advent Children can't really be compared to other video game movies it's just not on the same level.

SW was good for what it was, but it didn't have anything to do with the series. While AC may not be a theatre release, there's been plenty of movies like that ended up being pretty well done.

I'm not saying it will be good or bad. I'm just saying it's not in the same league as other movies. It doesn't have to deal with the huge number of hassles of live action movies. And it doesn't even have to deal with the hassles of an animated feature being released in theatres anywhere. Square didn't put out Spirit's by themselves hence why it's under Sony/Columbia Tri-Star, no way they could of afforded to that themselves.
And I'm sure Nintendo will have alot of pull when the thing actually gets anywhere close to being made. Which it's not since a director hasn't even been chosen yet.

*Azier shudders in fear at the mention of Uwe Boll.
But... I believe John Woo really could make a great Metroid movie. I've thoroughly enjoyed his other films, *especially Paychek* so I believe he'll do a good job.
Silent Hill.... I can't really have too many high hopes for. They could make a good movie, but with the track record of other horror/survival game based movies, I'm not gonna hold my breath. I'll at least rent it anyways.
