CAA: Christian Anime Alliance

This series is seriously the most classic videogame I ever played, shoving Mario out of the way (I don`t have anything against Mario so don`t get all upset. This thread is about sonic, not Mario) I`ll try to list as many of the Sonic games I`ve played I can think of but I`ll add a couple that I haven`t:

Sonic 1: I love this game, but I like the 2nd one better. Tails is in the 2nd one, and in this game you can`t even do the 'roll' thingy.

Sonic 2: My favorite Sonic videogame of all time. The most classic.

Sonic 3: Oohh....Knuckles. This game is cool, but not as good as the Second. i have this game on my Sega and on my PC. Great game.

Sonic CD: I`ve never played this. Can someone give me a brief description and explanation as to why it`s known to be "The best Sonic game."

Sonic Chaos: Hard. I never got to beating it.

Sonic Triple Trouble: One of my favorites, but it`s easier than most.

Sonic Adventure: It`s pretty good, but the classics are better.

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle: Good game, better that SA1, but I Still like the oldies better.

Sonic Heroes: A lot of people hate on this game. I like it, it mixes the best of the old with the best of the new. It even has the same places and locations as Sonic 2.

Sonic Advence games: I`m not fond of these. They`re ok and all, but I`m not a huge fan.

There are many I left out, but I have to go right now so I can`t type them.

The Origin of Sonic the Hedgehog.

I figured it must be known the design of our favorite blue friend originates from Micky Mouse. I can find that easy to believe.

Anybody looking forward to Shadow The Hedgehog? I hope it doesn`t ruin the series. Speaking of which, why are Sonic games made under nintendo, Sega`s ultimate rival?

Sonic the Fighters: a pretty fun fighting game. It has its problems, but just being able to play as the Weasel is fun

Tail's Adventure: By far the best GameGear game I've ever played. It simply pwns. The story was short but sweet. 100% recommended.

Sonic and Tails: Pretty good game. The Sonic design they used for it sucks tho. I beat it in one night when I was like 7

Sonic and Tails 2: Ok, yes. I love this game. It has Nack, pretty good graphics for a GameGear game, and can be either really easy or really challenging, depending on which character you chose at first. Also, it has my (as well as many other gamers') altime fav videogame music composition: Sunset Park Zone Act 3.

Is Sonic and Tails two the one hwere you start of in a volcano? That one was hard.

I love Sonic 2. That game is so much fun.

no, that's StH2. I agree with you. Even SonicRose says that game was a bit too hard for her tastes.

Sonic is what got me into gaming, really. ^^ Well, one of the things that got me into gaming--Sonic, Pokemon, and Golden Sun to be precise. But, yeah, even though I'm not a huge platformer fan, I love Sonic. Great, great games.

Ah, I remember all the days I spent in my youth at my grandma's house, playing Sonic 1 and 2 on my uncle's Sega Genesis. Good times - times that I can blame for my current video game addiction.

I love the old school Sonics, but surprisingly my favorite Sonic game of all time is SA2 - which is why I'm really looking forward to playing Shadow the Hedgehog. Shadow's one of my favorite Sonic characters of all time, second only to Knuckles.

Sonic 2 is mega-classic. So smooth for its time...(goes to break out the Genesis)

i think sonic and knuckles was forgoten. that game was excellent and the ability to link with sonic 2 or sonic 3 and play those games as knuckles was really ingenious

True. I loved playing as Knuckles.

oh you mean the expantion pack thing. I still have that. A lot of my friends had it to but I was the only one that actaully knew it worked for Sonic 2. God, those were great times.

I grew up on Sonic. I love Sonic 2, but I perfer Sonic 3 over it, especially when linked with Sonic and Knuckles.
Sonic Cd was great because of its sharp graphics, Sonic's ability to doa figure-8 dash, its branching story, and good soundtrack.

Ah.... my favorite classic video game series.

First, on the subject of Sonic CD: I don't know about "best", but it's pretty darn good. (One of my personal favorites). The basic plot is that the Little Planet appears every now and then to sow what are known as the "Seeds of Time", which keep the flow of time in check. Dr. Eggman proceeds to find a way to harness the planet to the Earth, so he can capture the mystical Time Stones for himself, thus ensuring his world domination in Past, Present, and Future.

Sonic CD plays virtually the same as Sonic 1. Tails is not present, but Amy Rose is. (This is the game she was introduced in.) As usual, you proceed from stage through stage till the end BUT there is a major twist with the gameplay. While each stage only has three acts, there are several different versions of each one. Acts one and two have a Present, Past, Good Future and Bad Future. Act three, which you face Eggman in, only has a Good Future and a Bad Future.

Throughout the stage there are signposts with 'Past' and 'Future' written on them. Activating a sign gives Sonic the ability to Time Warp. You simply have to get him running fast enough. If you keep him going at a fast speed for a certain period of time, he'll warp to another Time Period in the stage.

Good Future vs. Bad Future
There are two different futures that each stage can have. The 'Good' future has to be aquired. In this future, the zone has been completely reliqueshed from Eggman's control. In the 'Bad' Future, everything is in ruins and Eggman runs amuck. To get the good ending, every zone must have a Good Future. This is done by warping to the Past in Acts 1 and 2 and destroying a hidden robot generator. Destroying these ensures that Eggman lacks the army neccesary to take over the future.

OR

Aquire all the time stones. As in Sonic 1, make it to the end of Acts 1 or 2 with 50 rings and jump into the giant ring. You enter a three-dimensional special stage where you must destroy a number of UFO's within a limited amount of time. Complete it, and a Time Stone is yours. Aquire all Time Stones and you ensure that Eggman's dreams of Time Domination are shot. All Futures are then set to Good by default.

Bosses:
The bosses are a bit wierd for a Sonic game. Normally, bosses take 8 hits or more to bring down in all other Sonic games, but in this game, bosses go down in as little as 3 to one hits....

BUT

....this does not mean that the bosses are easy. Each boss has a nasty defense system which you must get by to deliver the critical blows. (In the second stage you must get to him via a giant pinball machine area while he drops bombs to impede your progress, another has you battling underwater in which you must suck up the air bubbles around his craft in order to get the final hit while he blasts lasers at you.... ect.

One boss battle definately worth noting is the race against Metal Sonic. This is by far the TOUGHEST, NASTIEST, EVILEST boss stage in any of the old school Sonic games to date. The plan is: Amy Rose is being held hostage by Eggman at the end of the stage, which is a giant futuristic raceway/obstacle course. You must race Metal Sonic to the end and be there first. This WOULD actually be a walk in the park, if Eggman wasn't right on your tale with a nastly laser beam that kills you in ONE hit. (Whether or not you have rings doesn't matter). Metal will, of course, try to impede your progress and knock you back. I guarantee that there is nothing more intense than getting knocked back onto the bottom of a very steep slope only to see Eggman an inch behind you closing in at full speed....

I do highly recommend this one. It's one of the funnest Sonic games you will ever play. It's a shame this game is so underated, as it's a true classic right up there with Sonic 2.


On the subject of Sonic Heroes:

This game didn't impress me that much. Most likely because I had too many high hopes for it. The gameplay was okay, but it lacked many things that made the Adventure games great.

The stages: In the Adventure games, each stage had a reason for existence, and had much relevence to the overall plot. Each stage was also different for each character depending on what that character was personally trying to accomplish. Some were even character specific. This was one of the many things I loved about the Adventures because they had great plots with stages directly connected to the plot.

In Heroes: Everything was back to being random again. The stages had NOTHING to do with the plot. They were just there. And they were basically the exact same for each character with a minor difference in length and difficulty. I was hoping they would be a little more thought out....

....but they didn't give much thought to the plot either. They might as well have given the game no plot. It very much lacked the depth and style that the Adventure games captured so well. Add some VERY corny dialogue and acting. (The English language version anyways) "Allright boys, I guess this makes us a TEAM!" I almost fell out of my chair when Rouge cracked that line.

In conclusion, I don't hate the game, it just happens to be my least favorite. I'm hoping they will get their act together and put out a winner in the form of the upcoming Shadow game. But, I'm not going to have any particular high hopes for it either.

I enjoy Sonic as much as anyone else, but that little caffienated-hedgehod causes me one pain in the rear today.
Today, I go to Rhino's to drop off 1) our old Sega Genesis, 2) the original Sonic the Hedgehog game, and 3) Zelda for SNES (we have the GBA version). All together it came to:

$14.75.

So I go around and try to find something worth that and come across Sonic Mega Collection. I buy it, drive home, set up the GC, turn on, discover the game is scratchec. I mean severly scratched. So I drive back, tell the people about it, they try to fix it, doesn't work, it's their only copy, so I end up buying Pikmin (fun!) instead and finally go back home to play something.

Other than that, yeah, I love Sonic! ^-^

Sonic 3 and Knuckles is my favorite Sonic game. It's one of the few games I've beaten countless times but still like playing it.

RM2000 is too limited. You could make a much more high quality game with The Game Factory (I hope that's the correct name) or Dark Basic.

YES. Oh MAN that game was hard. Not having rings in any of the boss stages was EVIL. BEYOND evil. To this day I have only beaten Green Hills Zone ONCE. For anyone who hasn't had the joy of this nightmare, as I stated, there are no rings. The whole stage is full of spikes. There are springboards set up in specific locations. You have to hop from springboard to springboard. If you miss, you fall on the spikes. Then die. And even if you make it past that, you have to fight the boss. And if the boss kills you, guess where you start? All the way at the beginning of the spikes.

Boo this game.

For the record, in my humble opinion, Sonic CD had the best Special Stages ever. It also had an awesome soundtrack. Stardust Speedway's Present, Good, and Bad Futures all had awesome tracks.

Sonic CD is my favorite Sonic game, and I really wish it had been released on the Mega Collection.

Since no one really answered Tom's question (why does Nintendo have the Sonic games?), I will.

Sega used to be a big gaming company in the 16-bit era. The 8-bit Master System was crushed by the NES, but the Genesis came onto the market before the SNES (if memory serves me correctly). Thus, they were able to get an established fanbase, and took a bit of Nintendo's business.

However, the Sega CD wasn't well received for the most part, though it did have many good games. And the 32X was just a cheap way to get a few extra bucks before N64 came out (there were like what, six games for 32X?). For those unfamiliar with it, the 32X was an attachment that you placed in the cartridge slot of the Genesis to turn it into a 32-bit system.

This was followed by a failed system, called Sega Saturn. Then came Dreamcast, which was a VERY good system and shouldn't have died, but sadly did, what with the Playstation and all. With too many failed marketing attempts, Sega decided to step out of the console race and resort to simply making games. The first few were for their rival, Nintendo, for reasons I am unsure of, but as you saw with Sonic Heroes, they are making games for Sony and Microsoft as well now.

Man, that was long. I hope I got all the facts right...

This is one thing I forgot to touch on.... yes, the special stages were the best ever. Also, on the music, it's notable that the Japanese/European release has a completely different soundtrack, which in some respects, is actually BETTER. (Although I still enjoy the US soundtrack though.)

A Sonic RPG? That idea is rock-solid Myoti. I have jockingly thought about that from time to time but after playing Megaman X Command Mission a Sonic RPG isn`t that unlikely and may be a fun play. If it does come out I doubt you`d get credit.

Capcom is known for delivering a balance of spectacular games and stinkers. Squaresoft rarely delivers a bad game. IF they were to make a Sonic RPG, it would be good. They would figure out someway.

It would NOT work as a turn based RPG though. It would have to be action RPG. Otherwise you lose the speed element.

Suqare-Enix....every game i`ve played from them rocks. I`m gonna pick up Unlimited SaGa, just to see how bad they can get.

Yeah, but that doesn't remove the possibilities of encounters. You'd just have to have big battle areas to give the characters plenty of room to move and attack in.

I was about to say that Myoti. Juming into enimies, rolling into balls..that would be more sick than the flu. 1/4 of the game Sonic should be alone.
