Counterstrike's Lifespan

How long is this thing going to hold on? Half Life 1 and Counterstrike are well-nigh archaic by today's standards, and now there's a bunch of MMO FPS games. Why has it held on and how long will it continue to last?

because counterstrike is probably one of the most realistic first person shooters (gunwise & shooting wise), requires a lot of strategy and skill, and is played worldwide. Plus new released of counterstrike (with the most recent being counterstrike source, really awesome using the half-life 2 engine)
and you made me want to play now lol
*goes off to play counterstrike*

As long as they keep on updating the engine for CS and add new cool stuff, I think it'll last another good 5 years or so. (orforeverbwahahahha!!)

Well, it's not very "realistic" (any one of Rogue Spear games can take the crop at that), but it's like scissors-paper-rock, everyone can play it, everyone's used to it, so they stick with it. If people want to keep playing it, it means they'll keep paying for it, which means less risk since the company knows what the market wants, so they keep with their brand. Just like Mario, Zelda, Warcraft, etc etc.

Can you aim down the iron sight in the new revamped CS or is it by the hip? -After Call of Duty and such, I have become picky.

i dont understand the question

By the hip, always. That's what that cursor is for.
[edit] Aiming down the iron-sight is looking down the barrel to point it, kinda like a sniper rifle, except there's no scope. That's why you have that pointy bit at the top of the guns at the end and another flat-ish one at the back with a little dent in the middle. You match them up and shoot. That's how to aim guns in real life

Another thing about CS is that it isn't the most demanding of games. I mean, it runs fine on our school computers and those are about five-six years old.

lol
i just got half-life 2 with counterstrike source today, the original counterstrike was excellent, i think it was the way they did it, ahving the teams setup with different weapon sets & making you buy the weappons you want, little things like taht made it all the more enjoyable, and hostage rescues were a nice change after same-old.. same-old capture the flag games

That's frickin crazy! Yeah I liked CS and I like Source. I was never into it like I know some people get. But I've logged my fair share of hours into it.
It's a tried and true formula. It's easy to get into, easy to learn, but it takes alot to master. It got a nice graphical update with Source and it's almost infinitely moddable now. Yeah CS will be around forever pretty much.

Counter-Strike is one of (If not THE) best games ever made. This game will never die because it requires a great ammount of skill and practice. Besides that, when you're a noob and you're playing against a bunch of experts, the rush of getting one of them is just awesome. And then like... years later, when you're a good player, you look back at that time and you laugh about it. I know I did. Everytime I play the game, I think about when I first started.
Me: WHOA! I got somebody!
My friend: No way!
Me: Yeah seriously! look at my score!
*shows him "1 kill 24 deaths"*
My friend: Sick!
ROFL!

RESURRECTION!!!!!!
anyway, What do you guys think of this whole "css is for nubs" thing.
I personally think it's kinda stupid. Wouldn't it be called Counter-Strike Nub then?
I asked some people on cs to see why they say that. These are the answers I recieved:
It's easier.
laggy hitboxes
noobs can pwn (I hate this word) at it
cs is harder
It's easier; cs is harder
The hitboxes are more responsive and the engine is more realistic. That's the reason why.
laggy hitboxes
cs had them too when it first started. Besides that, it's been updated, so the hitboxes are fixed.
noobs can pwn at it.
again, more responsive hitboxes.
What are your thoughts in this subject?

by Mr. SmartyPants
actually no... the hitboxes still need to be worked out... because there are times where you can shoot right next to somebody running and somehow still kill them
and there are WAY more headshots in CS:S than the previous ones.... CS:S is way much easier

I said they're more responsive not accurate. lol
Sure they're laggy, but hey, I've played 1.5 and those hitboxes are EXTREMELY laggy and there are more headshots in that also. Yet, some of the public says that 1.5 is for experts. hmmm... weird huh?
Anyway, of course they're gonna be laggy and inaccurate. CSS is still just starting out.

Eventually, I'll pick up the Half-Life value pack and start playing Counter Strike. But being a console gamer most of my life, I'm sure I'll be (I love this word)pwned my fair share of times before I really get into it. Problem is, I'm really used to voice chat. There is voice chat in CS, right?

yup, hold V down for voice chat
