Isn't "Girl Got Game" a manga though? Maybe she's trying to start a discussion on that manga? If so, it's in the wrong forum...

Please allow me an attempt at rescuing this thread from senselessness with a somewhat intelligent question. ^_^

What do you all think about the relatively recent use of heroines in video games (as opposed to the traditional use of heroes)? I think it may have been Roberta Williams who pioneered the female hero in 1988 with Rosella in King's Quest 4, though I can't necessarily prove that. *shrug*

Heroines are awsome, and I think it would be cool to play as Sheik ^_^

Hmm. I have no problem with it, women can fight just as good as men (some of them better). I mean, who's to say that there isn't some wussy prince somewhere that is captured and held hostage, and a strong woman has to rescue him? It's certainly possible. Probably been done before too.

And MelMak, I am ashamed at you, yo. Metroid starred Samus, a female hero, and was released in 1986, two years before King's Quest 4.

I have to say I nearly chunked this in the goof off...but for Mel and Kae's sake I let it slide.

I thought I managed to stop the window before it created the thread, but apparently not. I got some emails about new posts... which were almost as bad as my first one.

Argh. <piratey sounds of disgust> I was *trying* to find out if anyone had written anything about the shojo manga "Girl Got Game" (something else in Japanese -- I forget what).

Instead, I ended up creating a thread about it. My bad.

Anyway, it turns out no one had written anything about it anyway. (At least I couldn't find anything.)

So, does anyone know anything???

I read the reviews on Amazon. Anyone here read it and have any comments??

I'm talking about a manga. (I don't know if there is a game or anything like that.)

It's about a girl who has to disguise herself to as a boy to please her father so she can play basketball in a boy's school.

I haven't read it, wondered if anyone else had.

Then you should have posted in the manga forum.

Hmm. I have no problem with it, women can fight just as good as men (some of them better).

Well...er...um...I...disagree with that(don't hurt me!). All things being equal(such as time training), a man will beat a woman in combat everytime. Men develope muscle three times faster than women, and the more agressive mindset of men adapts better to combat situations. Men also surpass women in speed and stamina. I can think of two fights where a woman beat a man in a fight. Both times were grossly unequal. One was a boxing match where a twenty-something woman fought a 55 year-old man. The other was (another)boxing match where a woman who was bigger and had won all her (women's only) matches fought a short little Asian dude who had never won a match in his career. There's a reason the Bible calls women the weaker vessel. Keep in mind, weaker does not mean inferior. I'm weaker that the current Mr. Universe, but that doesn't mean I don't deserve every right he has.

As for videogames, anime, and TV in general having a female main character, I don't mind. I only mind when they have an in-your-face, I-can-do-anything-you-can-do, girl power moment that's meant to "teach" the stupid males a lesson(I think it's PC law that every American made TV show have at least one episode dedicated to this). I usually end up screaming at my TV, "What does that prove!? This is a videogame/TV program! You could make a 10 year-old beat up Godzilla!".

Chosen Rave, you beat me to it.

Darnit, I keep thinking Kae`s a girl cause of his avatars and also the fact he was defending girls doesn`t help either.

Damage control.

If you put Jet Lee and Mr. Universe in a Cage Match togehter, I'll put all my life savings on Jet Lee.

Remember, I said "all things being equal". That includes doing the same type of training. And muscle does make a diffrence. The right kind of muscle that is. Jet Li is quite strong. It was essential for him to become so. When he first started practicing Wushu, his teacher found him to be ineffective because he was physically weak. Turns out, his vegetarian diet was to blame. Once he started eating meat, his muscles were able to develope much faster.

And THIS is why women have an advantage. If men today were more naturally fit, (cardio + exersizing) they'd have the advantage. But a well trained woman, with less fake muscle to drag around, could well be a winner in a fight against a man. Although if it comes down to all out strenghth, sadly, the female fighter's husband will be taking a lot of abuse after that match.

All things equal, Volt, all things equal. There are plenty of men who do the right kind of exercize. And there are plenty of women who do the wrong kind. That's why there are female body-building tounaments as well. And if you thought the men in these contests were ugly(and they are), you haven't seen anything.

Darnit, I keep thinking Kae`s a girl cause of his avatars and also the fact he was defending girls doesn`t help either

*looks around sheepishly* Uh, let's not insult Kae's masculinity. Let's also not turn this into a girl-bashing thread.

I would lists some other reasons why I think men make better fighters, but...I'm scared. Why do I get the feeling that I'm going to be defending my point of view all day here....

But yeah, No one's really saying anything against you, I think we all agree, it's just something feminists have been angry at for decades. All of a sudden talking about it openly... Feels like, walking through a veitnamese mine feild. We are scared for our lives.

Heh, I thought for sure there were going to be more replies to this(I checked the thread every 45 minutes yesterday). This subject came up on another board I visit(Toon Zone) and got tons of replies. I gotta get used to the way people react to things here.
