Text Based Games

Postby Shao Feng-Li » Wed Apr 13, 2005 11:38 am

I found some text based games here: http://www.ingold.fsnet.co.uk/text.htm

They are pretty cool but hard...
Can anyone direct me to some easy text games, because I'm still figuring out how to play.

And please I need some help when it just comes to playing. Since most of you guys are older than me, maybe you might be able to give me a few tips/ hints/ pointers, whatever.

Wow...o.o I didn't know anyone on here had ever played interactive fiction games! XD I can't really recommend any easy ones (I seemed to have trouble with them all...I always forgot the kinds of commands I could use and my ability to miss the obvious was at least amusing at times) I had one mostly written a long time ago but unfortunately my new computer won't even try to compile the code...;__;

BOOSTER: Hey, No.1! Where's my cake?!
SNIFIT 1: Booster, Sir! There's a 70% chance the object you're standing on is a cake.
BOOSTER: What? THIS thing's a cake?

People who write below their abilities in order to crank out tons of books and make a buck. Especially Christian authors who do that. Outsiders judge us for it, and make fun of us for it, and it makes Jesus look bad. We of all artists on earth should be the most concerned with doing our best possible work at all times. We of all people should write with all our hearts, as if writing for the Lord and not for men.

Hmm.... I seem to remember things like 'north' 'east' etc, 'open' +door, window, etc, 'look' +noun... eg up, down, east, north, pencil, door, or just plain 'look'. Also 'look self' etc. I can't remember too much though. Oh, and you'd probably have to type 'kill' or 'stab' or 'attack' or 'kick' etc to attack. That's all I really remember. I played one or two quite a long time ago -a couple of years.

Basically, the point is to write a simple sentence indicating what you want to do. If the game recognizes the command, it will attempt to execute it. Some really strange things can be effectual, like eating the garlic before you try fighting the orc(Infocom's Zork). Sorry, as for easy ones, I really don't know.
