I know what you`re all thinking. Another thread that relates to Final Fantasy by Tom Dincht. Well, unlike others this deals with the old school FFs only. I`d say 1-5...maybe 6. I don`t know.

FF-Dawn Of Souls: Has anyone played this? I did and I beat FF1 and FF2 on it as well as FF2: Soul Of Rebirth. I thought I was all done but decided to do some extra stuff in FF1. I saw somewhere that there a bonus dungeon called Soul Of Chaos. Anyone know the location? I`ve been searching. I can actually see a PS2 remake of FF1 in cell-shade but I don`t want it to be a reality.
An FF2 PS2 remake on the other hand...

FF3- Still waiting to play.

FF4- This game from what i`ve seen so far, could be a direct sequel to FF2. i mean there`s a Mysida, a dragoon named Kain is in it (which is the name of the dragoon Ricard`s son in FF2). I know it`s not, but I like to consider it.

FF5- Actually my least favorite FF game ever. The storyline was boring as well as the music and if you`ve played Anthology, the characters look horrible.

FF6: Now this is where FF old school games shine. the Esper system is awesome and the storyline is dynamite as well as the music an characters (Locke seemed like the main character to me). Gosh, if they`re was a remake for this for the PS2, i`d buy it in a heartbeat.

This is also a debate thread to decide which game is better: FFIandII:DoS or FF:Origins? I personally liked the handheld experience letter but i hated how you overlevled. At least Firion wasn`t identicle to Fighter.

You make a serious amount of FF threads. Do you actually work for Square-Enix?

Yeah i have to agree with you. Endings for FF games haven`t been the easiest to understand. FF2 was the easiest for me to understand....I mean

Let`s talk about old school FF`s.

I've always understood the plots and endings to all the FF games.

And I loved FF5.... it was my favorite till I played 9.

Let's talk about old-school FF games? Well, okay, but I'm sure we've discussed them before. At any rate...

FF - What can I say? Classic. Honestly, my only beef with this one is the lack of save points, as well as the problem of hitting air when all your characters attack the same bad guy. Yes, I know, it makes it harder...but there's two types of hard. Challenging hard (good) and frustrating hard (bad). Those two things about this first game fall into the second category, making them bad. Dawn of Souls fixed two of these things, but at the expense of one thing I thought was a challenging hard: the removal of the spell levels in favor of the MP system. I much preferred the spell levels of the original...it made it so that you had to cast spells wisely, instead of having your black mage nuke everything like in Dawn of Souls. Sucked a lot of the challenge right out of it. Heck, in DoS you were even able to reach level five and beat Garland in like ten to fifteen minutes. That was IMPOSSIBLE in the original NES version.

FF2 - Aside from the level up system, which I loathed, this one was pretty good, honestly. Solid storyline and well developed characters.

FF3 - Haven't played too much of this one. This one introduced the Job System. I'm not sure how it works in this one, as I only played it for about twenty minutes before my folder on the LAN at work got wiped. >< It didn't seem to be well-developed, though, so I'm not sure how it works as far as requirements for job switching or ability learning, or the like. However, it's nice to know where Lulu's Onion Knight doll from FFX came from.

FF4 - Great, great, great game. The PS1 version, at least. Cecil's Dark ability RULES. Great characters, lots of exploration, and HARD bosses. One of my personal favorites.

FF5 - Started out strong, but I lost interest in the end. One of the few FF games I haven't beaten, and probably never will. It had a good storyline, and
[SPOILER]The merging of the two worlds near the end was an AWESOME idea, very well executed.[/SPOILER]
However, it fell flat near the end for me. Running around fighting random battles to gain job levels is only fun for so long. Besides, I like to beat all the optional bosses, and I have yet to find ANYONE who can tell me how to obtain a Dragon Lance so I can beat Shinryu, and DO NOT tell me to mug Crystal Dragons in the N-Zone, I've mugged about twenty of the things and all they give you is Elixirs.

FF6 - Excellent game, almost as good as my favorite (Tactics). The characters had unique abilities, but all could learn the same magic. I like that. It gives every character uniqueness, and at the same time it gives a sense of flexibility if you need a healer or a nuker in an emergency (almost as good as X's sphere grid, but not quite). Forever Rachel still stands as one of my favorite FF songs ever. They REALLY need to make an arranged version of that song. :/ The plot twist at the middle was VERY well done, and Kefka was probably the most evil FF villain of all time.

I`m playing through FF5 again and i actually enjoy it more but everytime I play thtough it I always get stuck on the mammoth thing in the waltz tower.

anyway, ff3 is so awesome! First to introduce the job system, with job points and stuff... there were many jobs... it was so awesome! (you start out with a small selection but you can get TONS more later)

And I actually like FF5 now. Its just a bad game when you expect it to be a lifechanging game and how have all these people played FF3? Do you guys like buy things in Japan?

Some people do indeed buy Famicoms and games off of ebay or import sites. Of course, you have to have a working knowledge of Japanese to read it.

Or, there are people who have a NES emulator and a ROM of FF3, which is how I played it at work (until our LAN folders got deleted). Some ROMs are in Japanese, some ROMs are in English. Mine was in English. That's how I played it.

Why didn`t they release FF3 with 4 and have Chrono Trigger released as its self.

Probably because Chrono Trigger, as good of an RPG as it is, isn't as large as the RPGs of today. Even doing all the sidequests, you can still beat Trigger in about 20 to 30 hours. Compare that to FFVII, a first-run PS1 RPG that takes a little over forty WITHOUT sidequests. It's to give the players a little more bang for their buck, so to speak. Releasing Trigger on its own probably wouldn't have decreased the forty dollar price tag that much (that was the original release price, though it is twenty now for being a Greatest Hit). So they probably figured they would throw in another game and give gamers two times the games for the same price.

Now, as to why FFVI wasn't released with Trigger...FFVI is probably (aside from VII) the most popular FF game there is. So it was obviously Square's first choice for a rereleased title on a PS1. And since V was not available in America, Square decided they would allow everyone to play a game that they probably hadn't ever played before. And at the time, Square had NO plans to ever rerelease Chrono Trigger on any system. However, pressure from the fans grew, since SNES copies of the game are like finding buried treasure, so Square decided to rerelease that. And since IV was another popular title, and no one had played the hard version of it, even though the two were not very much related, together they went.

As for why they didn't release III with IV...III was a NES game. Since no one wants to play games with NES graphics on a PS1 (well, at least not you ), it would have required them to completely remake III with better graphics, not to mention the fact that it was never available in English, so they would have to translate it to boot. Given that at the time Chronicles was made, Square had a lot of other projects on their hands (FFX, Kingdom Hearts, and the like), they decided they'd rather focus their efforts on that instead of remaking an old game no one would miss anyway.

Again, I don't know what the logic is. The preceding post was merely my opinion on the matter, and has no factual basis whatsoever. ^^;;

So FF1 and 2 were for the NES right? And I had that for PS1. I excahnged it for Anthology.
