Little bit of a spoiler contained in this, so if you're playing Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and want everything to be a surprise, stop reading now!
Okay, for those of you still reading...what color yoshi did you get in Glitzville? I thought it was just that green one with the spiky red hair like you see on the title screen, but the one that popped out of my egg was pink with green hair!! Was this a last-minute programming change, or is it possible to get a different yoshi? Has anyone gotten the green one, or something besides pink or green? If so, do tell!

Actually, the Yoshi I got was orange with blue hair.
I heard something about the Yoshi you get in Paper Mario being different depending on something, but I'm not sure if it's really just random or what-not. *shrugs*

I looked it up and found a claim that if you name your game file a color, the yoshi will be that color. Not sure if it's true. I wonder what determines the yoshi's color otherwise, though. For my file name, I'd used my name followed by a heart symbol.

I just started the game. I think maybe the game color means when you first pick a game file look at what color the title bars are. I just did it 2 hours ago so I remember that the 4 colors were Red, Blue, Gold, and Green. Could that be it?

I'm pretty sure that the title bars' colors are irrelevant, because from what I've read, there are many more colors of yoshis you can get than those four, incluing red, blue, green, black, orange, and, of course, pink. (My game was saved in the yellow box if I remember correctly.) What did you name your file? Did you try a color?

I wonder if it has any effects on his stats? Mine was red with green hair. I always use him.

That's a good question! Could they have included variations in HPs and other things in addition to their looks?

I got a red Yoshi. I was wondering about that and just figured that they had put the wrong color on the box art.
I named him "Boshi" (after the blue Yoshi from the SNES Super Mario RPG). Maybe the Yoshi color is chosen based on which partner you battle with the most. I think that had an effect on my fight with ??? (I won't give his name away, but the boss of Creepy Steeple), since Goombella showed up as his ally in that fight, and she is my favorite ally to use.

Just the other day I heard that the yoshi's color is determined by intervals of game play time. So, over the course of, say, 15 minutes, each color becomes dominant for so many minutes, then the cycle repeats itself. Green is the color that has the longest interval, being about six minutes. If you hatch the egg within those six minutes, the yoshi will be green! After six minutes pass, the color will become red, I think. That interval lasts for five minutes. Next comes blue, which lasts four minutes. This continues through all available colors, the interval decreasing each time. The last in the series is black, which only has a window of 30 seconds.
To get the color of your choice, save just before the point when the egg hatches, then see what color you get. If it's not the one you want, reset the game, reload your file, wait a minute or two, save, then hatch the egg again. Repeat until you get your desired color.
This trick has not been verified either, but I'd sure like to try it!
