You know one thing...I can seriously say I hate and mean it...well not hate but totaly loath in it's highest form...is online gaming backstabbing!!!
Say I play a first person shooter (Star Wars Battlefront is whee I find it alot) and I'm trying my best and all of a sudden I die and I see a teammate killed me. Usually I shrug it off as a mistake and i have accidently killed my teammats (cause they get in the way when I am sniping ::grumble grumble::
But nothing is accidental when I am deep in friendly terrioty and I have a fire fight with a teammate!! So usually when thier is a known backstabber, I usually ignore the game and go after the person the entire game.
Arggghhh!! I hate it...defiently when I'm in a good sniping position to and they kill me.

i know exactly what you mean, i'll be playing jedi knight in the multiplayer and one of the understood rules is that when you have your fists up, that means that you are currently not fighting, it's just an understood rule of gaming etiquette, at least for jk, in any case, i'll pause the game or something or just stop fighting to talk to someone else in the game, and then all of the sudden i'll get cut in half by some random player that wasn't even paying attention to the rules or to the fact that i had fists and then it takes me forever to track down that particular player and tear into him until doomsday, arrrggggghhhhh indeed!!!!

then again, jedi knight HAS gotten a lot of weird rules. Like you must bow before dueling! And other weird stuff. They get mad if you dont. LOOK YOU ARE NOT JEDIS OKAY! YOU DON'T NEED TO BOW! YOU"RE JUST SOME KID PLAYING A GAME!

I love online game backstabbing!
...
Actually I don't, but I wanted to say it
. Anyway, it is really annoying. I remember one game of Halo 2 in which a teammate betrayed me on 6 separate occasions. We still won the game, but it was frustrating.
Fortunately there are games that have taken steps to combat backstabbing. In Halo 2, if someone acts up enough you have the option of leaving the game without any affect on your rank. I think there is also an option to set a number of times that a player can backstab before they will be automatically booted from the game, but I'm not sure. Players also have the option to leave negative feedback comments for players who backstab (or "grief," as it is often called).
In World of Warcraft, the servers are divided between "Normal" and "PvP." On the pvp servers, anyone is fair game. On the normal servers, all pvp is consensual (although attacking one player of another faction allows any other player of that faction to attack you). If you don't want to go into pvp mode, there is also a duel system, along with the soon to be implemented pvp battlegrounds.
Unfortunately some people do find it enjoyable to ruin someone else's fun; hopefully more games will start factoring this into the game design by allowing players to boot backstabbers from games, leave negative feedback that can be viewed by other players, or otherwise minimize the impact of backstabbers.

Teamkillers are the scourge of the Earth. I'm glad companies like Bungie are taking serious action against these guys.

I have a funny story which involves friendly killing. My friend and I were playing Counterstrike when this one guy suddenly asked if friendly fire is on? He ask that a few times and we started to get annoyed when someone said "Just shoot someone on your own team!" Well when everyone spawned for the fight he shot some random person on his team and killed him. Well it happened to be the admin and he got kicked off.
I hate backstabbers and I only do it when I am playing with friends and we are not taking it seriously.

I don't mind backstabbing when there are not preset teams. For example, JK2. I honestly don't care whether you have your saber on or off, it's a free for all deathmatch. Or FFA Starcraft, where backstabbing is part of the strategy and diplomacy. What, you just respawned in Goldeneye (for N64) and you have no weapon? Well, you're moving, so that makes you a target. I do not pay heed to silly rules that the developers had no intention of coding into the game.
On the other hand, where you do have team games, that is annoying.

Well, yeah its fun to backstab your friends which I have done many times but when you're playing online and you're trying to win and it's a team game and some idiots don't care and like to see you get mad and plug you in the head, well...i have no sympathy for them.
I mean i just quit a game cause in total there were 13 backstabbers. Every sngle time I'd get into a good sniping position....BAM!! You have killed by teammate "insert stupid name here". grrr....
Then again, I don't mind the other team having backstabbers...it helps the oppossing team.
But as long as they are on my team, I hate them!!

Ooh yeah. Blood Gulch, me in a Banshee , and TKers on the other team make an awsome game.
You see them killing each other then you swoop in for battering ram kill(s) =]

Though my online gaming has been limited, I have never encountered a backstabber there. Actually I have found some really good team work.
On the other hand, I have played coop games where the person right next to me kills me. Its just the two of us playing… I say, “Yep, that’s me, don’t shoot…â€
