7.Samurai Warriors (PS2)
8.Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 (PS2)

Both interesting lists. I note the lack of a Zelda title, as well as the lack of the gaming titan Myst. Do you guys not care for those two greats?

(Cbwing - Nice avatar, by the way.)

Myst I never finished. I like puzzle-solving Quest type games but Myst pushed the envelope too much. Yawn. Grim Fandango is 70 times better even if it had slower, less sales.

As for Legend of Zelda, I never played it. It wasn't available in South Africa when the original was available. And since I don't have the Gamecube I can't play the new one. Doh.

I only included games on my lists that I have played for a significant amount of time, so based on that criterion I couldn't include Zelda or Myst. They could be great games, but they never piqued my interest enough to make me play them.

This list includes M rated games, so only gamers over the age of 17 who can handle some disturbing stuff for those games

Metal Gear (the whole series, just to avoid confusion, but particularly the last game, only in context of the rest of the series, though) M
Super Mario Brothers - Know your roots!
Pitfall - See SMB
Pacman - See pitfall
Seiken Densetsu (the original trilogy, before accursed "Legend of Mana" ruined it)
Legend of Zelda - See the other ones that have notes like this for them
Ninja Gaiden (original series, which was TRULY revolutionary)
Adventure (yay! I will give a cookie to everyone who's played this... only if you say the magic word)
Silent Hill 2 (just 2) M The others are good, but in no way "must plays"
Resident Evil M

There's my list... Man, I loved pitfall... I would have loved it more if I knew that sega controllers worked on the atari... I hate joysticks.

I didn't include PONG on that list, because that's just silly... Ok, so it was revolutionary in that it was the first official video game (it and the 3 others that were developed at the same time, same essential game by 4 separate people who didn't share ideas...), they made it for home use, but other than the form it was made in, it was just a logical next step... Really! I hate pong... It was just that plotting principles used in making text on a screen applied to simple shapes, and they could be controlled by simple scripts the same way the text was. Ok, so maybe the first people to do that deserve some credit... But... Pong is so lame! *SIGH*

5.Soul Calibur II
6.Super Smash Brothers
7.Legend of Mana
8.Kirby's Super Star
9.Worms World Party
10.Team Buddies (Most of you have prolly never heard of this one cuz they only made, like 1,000 copies of it, but it's like, the most freaking fun cartoony shoot-em-up out there)

Man, I wish I could make a longer list because there are so many that I left out.

Godly Paladin wrote:And still no Myst! For the second best selling game of all time, it didn't seem to make an impression.
It would be surprising, if Myst was in fact the second best-selling game of all time. This site features a list of the all-time best-selling games:
http://forum.pcvsconsole.com/viewthread.php?tid=8655

For those too lazy to click a link, here is the list:

1) Super Mario Bros. (NES) - 40 Million
2) Tetris (Game Boy) - 33 Million
3) Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) 18 Million
4) Super Mario World (SNES) - 17 Million
5) Super Mario Land (Game Boy) - 14 Million
6) Super Mario 64 (N64) - 11 Million
7) The Sims (PC) - 10 Million
8) Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES) - 10 Million
9) Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2) - 8.5 Million
10) Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (PS1) - 8 Million
11) GoldenEye (N64) - 8 Million
12) Donkey Kong Country (SNES) - 8 Million
13) Super Mario Kart (SNES) - 8 Million
14) Pokemon Red/Blue (Game Boy) - 8 Million
15) Half-Life (PC) - 8 Million
16) Tomb Raider II (PS1) - 8 Million
17) Final Fantasy VII (PS1) - 7.8 Million
18) Myst (PC) - 7 Million
19) Gran Turismo 3 (PS2) - 7 Million
20) Dragon Warrior VII (PS1) - 6 Million

Myst ranks third in the list of best-selling PC games:
1) The Sims - 10 million
2) Half-Life - 8 million
3) Myst - 7 million
4) Chessmaster - 4 million
5) DOOM - 2.9 million
6) Civilization III - 2 million
7) Quake - 1.8 million
8) Age of Mythology - 1 million
9) Neverwinter Nights - 1 million
10) Return to Castle Wolfenstein - 1 million
11) Deus Ex - 500,000
12) Halo - 500,000
13) The Secret of Monkey Island 2 - 500,000

It is interesting to note that spots 1-6 on the all-time list are all console/handheld games (and also all Nintendo games). Has Nintendo been staying afloat with first-party software all of these years? Fanboys say no. The numbers say yes :P .

To answer the question Myst doesn't interest me, because I am not a big fan of puzzle games. When I do play them I prefer simple, fast-paced games like Tetris Attack, Bubble Bobble, Puzzle Fighter, etc.

Okay, so Myst is third. One place shouldn't make much of a difference. As of a few years ago it *was* second. A little bit after it was released it was first, I believe. It's been knocked down since.

This is too hard to pick, so I'll just choose the must play from each genre.

1. Wolfenstein 3D (FPS)
2. Master of Orion 2 (Turn-based Strategy)
3. Total Annihilation (Real-time Strategy)
4. Final Fantasy VI & VII (RPG)
5. Tetris (Arcade)
6. System Shock 2 (Horror)
7. DDR (Rhythm)
8. Need for Speed Underground II (Sport)
9. Myst (Adventure)
10. Deus Ex (Hybrid of many genres)

I probably missed a few genres, but the fact is, you can't rank games that all scored 10/10.

Myst definitely makes my list.
In no real order.
1. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (RPG)
2. Earth Bound (RPG, quite humorous)
3. Myst (Adventure, actually beat it once. Took forever!)
4. Metroid Prime 1 & 2 (First Person Adventure)
5. Legend of Zelda 64 (Action Adventure)
6. Sam and Max (very memorable  )
7. Beyond Good and Evil (Action Adventure, Not very immersing battle system, but great none the less.)
8. Metal Gear Solid (Stealth Action? Great story and twists)
9. Empire Earth (RTS, my favorite)
10. Rise of Nations (RTS, my other favorite)
