Frankly, I'm kind of glad. I don't really see the point to the survival-horror genre.

Wow.... As a Resident Evil fan, I am dissapointed to see such a groundbreaking series come to an end.
Hopefully it will get passed along to someone else and live on.

This may be really good news. According to the article, part 4 is going to end the Umbrella and T-virus storylines. I was worried that we would have to go through another zillion games before they finally defeated Umbrella. I hope the game provides a satisfying conclusion.

If you dont see the point in those games, then do you see a point in
any games at all?
No matter what genre it is, the point is to be entertained and have fun.

Wow that really is something, the ending of the game must wrap up alot of the series' plot. I just wonder though, at the end of Code Veronica, Chris and Claire head off to fight Umbrella, what ever happened to that ?

Rai... If you don't have anything nice. In any case, I hope the silent hill folks take a cue... Even take a cue from their fellow big budget team, the Metal Gear team... End it, allready. No more resident evils... No more silent hills... After SH5 and the movie, it should be over... I wasn't ever into resident evil, but I think stories should have ends, and not just when people get too bored with it or something... Actually end it at a decent time, or plan to have it end at a certain time... Video game series don't HAVE to last forever...

in my opinion, silent hill looks more interesting, i read somebody elses post on gamefaqs, and silent hill is aomewhat psychological. A dog won't jump out of a window or anything. YOu'd expect that (atleast in RE)
so both games sound really fun. But man, silent hill looks like... so much scarier. I would play them, but hey. I got scared by Uninvited for the NES
So actually, I'll never play them.

I really enjoyed the first two Resident Evil titles. I bought the third one (for Dreamcast), but then I never played it. I also have Silent Hill 3 for the PS2, which I played and beat (although the story was somewhat confusing given that I didn't know much about the first two). Of those, Silent Hill 3 was my favorite for the simple reason that the controls didn't get in the way of gameplay. Silent Hill 3 had the option to switch to full-3d controls, which for me are much more intuitive.
I find Resident Evil games frustrating due to the fact that the controls slow down the gameplay so much. Instead of moving in 3d or even 2d (as in the other Silent Hill titles), RE makes you turn your character in the desired direction, then press another button to move forward. A lot of the tension comes from the fact that controlling your character is such a chore. Many games are PvE (player vs. environment), some are PvP (player vs. player); Resident Evil, on the other hand, is PvC (player vs. controller).
It is a shame that the controls are so lousy, because the story is excellent. There are some genuine "shock" moments in the games, along with plenty of gore and monstrous creatures.

I had heard about employee abuse in connection with EA. Unfortunately the problem is widespread in the gaming industry, and there aren't any signs of change in the near future.
Hopefully game companies will realize that they can't get away with abusing their talent forever...

cbwing0 - yes, they can abuse their programmers. programmers are a dime a dozen. don't like the job? fine, quit. there will be someone new to replace you in the morning.
and really, i'm surprised they havent taken the coders out of the country to like india. good coders down there and they work for cheap. if they do run out of programmers, that's obviously where they'd go.

Programmers just code the game. They don't do the thought process. Programmers for companies like EA don't need creativity.
as for the second part, reviewers just look at things subjectively. that is all.

What? I wasn't flaming anyone. I just don't see the point. Apparently some of you do. That's why Capcom makes these games. People like you buy them. I have no problem with it, I just personally don't know where the entertainment is.
Answering chichiri, of course there's a point to games. I love games. I just don't see the attraction in blood, gore, disturbing imagery and scary things. Unlesss it's done in a cheesy, satirical way, in which case I find it funny.

The series is getting really old. It's basically the same thing over and over again. Umbrella makes some kind of zombie mutation virus, a disaster happens, a few people get trapped in the middle of it all, and they need to break free.

Coding is 99% creativity, and 1 %(ok so i over-did it) actually doing it. Anyone can learn C++ but it's about the algorithums, the formulas, and the actual technique(sleep required for all the above) that makes a game look good and polished. Today's games are sloppy code covered up with "fast and pretty graphics".
Plus, depending on the coder, They do design the game. If you work for a big company like EA, then yes you're right, pretty much just code. But people at ValvE and other places, They design the games not just code them.
There's an entire world of Game Design, many many different ways to "make" a game.
even so Volt, Ea could easily go down to India. India has very good programmers and some companies are already starting to do so. If they actually did run out of people here, they could just go down there.

I actually am against, offshore outsourcing, which mainly affects the IT industry, in particular, American workers. But you did make sense, programming can be a slave job, I mean, I am currently a SQL database programmer and I'm ready to leave and pursue a new field altogether.
So, yes, in a sense we can be replaced on the fly. But in the end, the innovation comes from the ground up, if you can't get your programmers to work with your level designers and graphic artist, for one, team work is out the window and there isn't as much passionate work involved.

I agree that the series IS getting somewhat old, and I wouldn't want it to drag on forever. I just feel it should have ended differently. I think RE4 should have gone with the original premise, RE5 could have been about the fall of Umbrella, (All the characters from all the games gather together for the final showdown of Good vs. Evil) and RE6 could have been what RE4 is presently going to be, and could have been the final game in the series.
