I hate people like that. They had something like the top 5 most violent games ever...Halo 2 was number 4. Doom 3 was number 1.

No, I didn't see it, but saying Doom 3 is the most violent game of all time doesn't seem too off base...

Where is GTA on the list?

I guess they will have fun with this list when Brothers in arms come out on the PC, PS2 and Xbox.

Here's the full list for the folks who are curious....

(1) Doom 3

(2) Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

(3) Gunslinger Girls 2 = First time I've ever hear of this title, sounds medicore, and I even wondering if will come to America.... I can't find any info on it from Gamespy or Gamespot... so who cares about this game?

(4) Half Life 2 = Yes, it is violent and not for the little ones, but at least you're the good guy.

(5) Halo 2 = O'please.... yes, Halo 2 wins it's "M", but your focus is killing Alien right? Maybe it should be on the list.... but higher than Postal 2 and MANHUNT?!

(6) Hitman: Blood Money (releases in 2005)
= Run out of games to attack?

(7) Manhunt = What the crap is this doing at the bottom?

(8) Mortal Combat: Deception
= See Number 7

(9) Postal 2 = See Number 8

(10) Shadow Heart
= Wait isn't this game rated "Teen"?

Where's Far Cry, Warhammer 40k, Vampire: Bloodlines, Prince of Persia: the Warrior Within', Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay, Pain Killer, Fable, Ninja Gaiden.... hmm?

I wish they'd do more research and not make a list that looks like it was made in five minutes.....

Gunslinger Girl... violent? XD XD Yes, but, dude, putting it on a list with Doom 3, Halo 2, GTA and such.... And Shadow Hearts is on the list?? Whoa, what about the RE and SH series? Or any other survival horror? Heck, I'm not surprised if they just shuffled through a single shelf at the local game store.

I would personally say PoP: Warrior Within is the most graphic hack-and-slash I ever seen. You actually see chunks flying when you slice a person in half. *shudders*

Other than that... Mario Bros is definitely violent. You're stomping on poor mushrooms and turtles, squashing them into non-existance with your bare (shoe-clad) feet. Save the turtles!

the thing about these "soccer moms" is that they let the TV babysit their kids and they only get protective and concerned AFTER their children are exposed to all the filth that's in the media. I don't see anything wrong with having a term to describe people like that, though "irresponsible" fits the bill best.

Maybe those games are violent, but do they glorify violence? Not all of them. In Halo 2 you're a noble warrior trying to defend all of Earth from an invasion that threatens to wipe us all out. I think that deserves a little separation from games like GTA where you just go around shooting people and stealing cars. Y somehow, the crazies who make these lists put it all into one big category. Tch. Sad with a capital S.

Part of me thinks I shouldn't laugh at such things... and another part of me could almost see 'em sitting there throwing down with the geeks. Does that mean I'm messed up? ;)

Doom 3 is a very violent game and I don't go for that style. Yes, it may have demons or whatever but that doesn't necessarily make it an evil game. Its that it glorifies hellish things like demons...

No, to say the unexposed are more violence-prone is wrong. Honestly, those are the kind that are more likely to be completely disgusted with even the smallest amount of violence. It is the kind that grow up on violence such as GTA, Doom, and such. And, although most of us 15+ or possibly even thirteen or older can tell the difference in the morality given by such games as Half-Life, Red Faction, and Halo, still, to hand a seven- to twelve-year old a gun and allow him/her to go virtually destroy things lessens their perspective of right from wrong. At that age, the moral statements made in my second list are null, or nearly so. That kind of storyline is far too complex for the child's mind, although the mindless blasting makes perfect sense even to the shortest attention span.

I personally cannot play GTA or other crime-based games. The idea of shooting someone simply because they get in your way does not appeal to me. I will confess, however, that in Soldier of Fortune 2 I knifed a civilian, and I swear I regret it to this day.

I'm going to write an article about violence in games on my website. BRB. Going to be a long one, and going to cover every single defence on the side of gaming.

For Great Justice!

Check out the rant section of http://lorentztheory.com/ to read my article. If you have any disagreements then post it up in my forum.

Jesus drank with sinners, no reason he wouldn't frag with gamers. I personally think I'd want to be on his team in any Unreal Tournament CTF.

Very well written article Lorentz.

What if someone uses Godmode?

What about God-mode? That's just a term given since a game used it (I think it was Wolfenstein, I'm not sure...) to define invulnerability mode. Hey, who can spell that anyway.
