Check this site out. I was searching for articles on games and making them when I stummbled upon one of the most incredible things that I've heard about games in a long time.

Post what you think.

Wow... a long article, but very interesting, in my opinion. But yeah, like it said, what are they going to do when the company has to shut down the game because they can't afford to keep it up anymore? :\ I also have this very strong urge to buy Everquest. XD

 You'd be surprised at how amazingly real the economy of an MMORPG is. I've learned more about economics from lurking Ragnarok Online websites than I have from school. It's absolutely insane.

I had my own experience with this when I played Star Wars Galaxies. I was cheifly an Artisan, and I had to keep tabs on the price of raw materials in order to turn a profit. I was pretty kind, though, as I often handed out large packs of homemade goodies to n00bs in need. I even started my own clothing company, flOOb, which later became JehnnWear. Many appreciated my kind service and good prices, and also the fact that I had no problem with giving players a few things pro bono if I had inconvenienced them somehow.
EDIT: Punched out some typo ninjas.

Wow, that's awesome! I'm dabbling in economics a little right now, so this article is especially interesting. Way cool!
