(i wasnt sure where to put this since its a Table Top game(not a video game))
So, does anyone play? If so, what race are you, and what units do you have?
I just got into it, we started a little club thing with some kids in the youthgroup at church. We have played 2 or 3 times, and its alot of fun.
My race is Tyranid, I bought the Battle of Macragge set with my bro, he took the space marines. So I have some Genestealers, Termagants, and Spore Mines. I plan on getting the Hive Tyrant HQ choice sometime soon, and hopefully some lictors.
So talk in here if you play WH40K!!!!!!!!

I play Biel-Tan/Ulthwe Eldar (from way back since 2nd edition, about 7-8 years ago). I love the craftyness and speed that an Eldar army brings, and it's always a challenge. I kinda regret that I got rid of my Blood Angels Space Marine army, so I might have to start that army back up once again, as soon as the new codex is out.
Also, I have no idea where my stuffs are since I moved, so that's about 200 bucks worth of stuff that I have "missing." One problem that I have is that everything is so expensive, so most of my friends and I just proxy models; have random models represent other models for testing purposes. If an army list works well, get those correct models when a tournament comes up. And I like the fluff/background, it's very original and probably the most different compared to any other game.
I also play Dawn of War, I play Space Marines mostly.

Wow, Sanguko posted. Couldn't resist since it was Warhammer, huh?
The Dawn of War game really surprised and impressed me..... I almost like it more that C&C Generals. But, there are some things that drag it down, mostly just the sound. The music is meh.... and I found myself cutting off the music sound and playing my own music in WMP. And the voices..... while the orks are a little funny, the most of the voice get annoying. All they need to say is "affirmative", not quote something a warrior’s handbook or what not. Anyways, I love the fast paced on your feet fighting, customizing of army colors and logo, the balanced side, how is gives you the option to turn off blood, the animation, and the Space Marines rock!
As for the table top games..... I never had enough money to invest in War Hammer.... all I have are: a Lemon Rus Tank (I think that's the name), two sentinel walkers, and five space marines (only 'cause they came with the paint ^_^). As for the rest... I used a Mechwarrior Uziel model, a soviet T-74, a few WW2 models…..and Star Wars models/figures were the muscle of my army! The size didn't match up exactly, but it was close enough.
I also enjoy the Battlefleet Gothic game…. I had a nice sized Star Wars themed fleet.

I've recently started to collect a warhammer 40k army, (Dark Angels Space Marines) and love Dawn of War. My friends have ben playing it for alot longer than me, i played warhammer fantasy for years though: I was High Elves.

lol, absolutely. I feel the same about this game as you feel about Star Wars.
On the topic of DoW, I must say I really like the intro.
And Glitch, I do recommend buying the battleforce or the boxed army (if you can find one). Because they do give a good core force to build upon, and I think they give it to you 20% cheaper than if you buy them separately. I don't know how much they are now though; if the 20% is still true.

awesome, im kinda surprised, i didnt think anyone would post about it, space marines are the best IMO in dawn of war
sangoku, would games workshops website have a place to find the boxed army set?

Yes they should have it at their website, but I doubt it however. Boxed armies are limited edition, and are only released when a new codex comes out. You may want to check out your local hobby store and see if they have one.
Other wise, wait until next summer for the boxed army, when the rumored new Tyranid codex will come out, with new boxed armies coming along with it.

lol, your friend has it good though, the new Space Marine codex will be out next month, so he'll have the opportunity to buy the boxed army.
But in the new rumored Tyranid codex, you can build your own hivefleet with its own characteristics. Much more extensive than the current codex with much detailed background that were left out due to the transition from 2nd to 3rd edition.
Anyways, have fun and i'd be happy to answer any other questions.

I play 40K also. Using the Biel-Tan Eldar rules I made the Craftworld Altansar (Maugan-Ra's world) using a scheme of Midnight Blue and Bleached Bone.
I've also started Orks! the Gobsmackas led by Skinsnik Gobsmacka! They're all Lootas so I'm converting them all using old marine bits, shoulder pads, guns etc. I even have an IG Basilisk I'm converting

Ah, lol, I see.
If you plan on getting a hive tyrant here are some things that i've seen.
1. Winged: With the winged tyrant, you can get hop him from cover to cover and get him into close combat much quicker, and probably attract less shots. The disadvantage is that he would be solitary and his synapse link would be useless; as no other troops would be able to keep up with him. If you choose this, you'd have to get more tyranid warriors to act as a buffer, so that your creatures synapse link doesn't get broken if your synapse creatures get annihilated too quickly.
2. Standard: Basically have a hive tyrant in the middle of your army, acting as a synapse creature and helping the bulk of the force along. You can mount a venom cannon on him, but the BS of a 3 is too much of a risk. Plus, you can only get glancing hits on vehicles. But if you choose this route tyrant guards are a must, or other wise your hive tyrant will be shot up to bits before turn 2.
Besides the hive tyrant, warriors are your only other link to the hive mind (I believe), and synapse creatures depend on these two units to function or they'll run amuck. I'd recommend warriors be more close combat, and have maybe a few guns to shoot. Again, their BS of a 3 is too much of a risk if you make them too shooty.
I honestly think raveners are too expensive point wise for their own good. T4 isn't all that good, and even though they have two wounds, 5+ save is horrid, and they'll get cut down by ordinary marines.
Those are some things that I have seen in when i tested tyranids out/played against tyranids.
Looks like we have a lot of Eldar players, lol. And Skynes, your Ork army sounds very cool.
Sephiroth; do you play any of the sub Dark Angels armies, like the Deathwing or Ravenwing?

by Sephiroth
I don't use a dedicated ravenwing or deathwing army, but i like including the units in my army. (Gotta love the deathwing Terminators!!) and i think the ravenwing bikes & attack bikes are really cool.
My 40k in 40 mins army is:
1x Tactical squad (10 marines)
1x Bike Squadron (4 bikes)
1x Whirlwind
Its worked quite well the games i've played so far, me and my friends are thinking of starting up a 40k in 40 mins campaign, where you fight over different territories and stuff, kinda like 40k with necromunda-type stuff thrown in

Ah I see, that's cool. I haven't played 40k in 40min, but it looks very interesting. Typically my friends and I play 1k-1.5k battles. But yeah, the Deathwing terminators are very cool, gotta love the stubborn rule.

Ah yes, the horrendously expensive prices. I can't remember the last time I bought anything. Only one of my friends buys reguarly. Everyone else, we just kinda used to proxy models so like a tac marine can be an assault marine as long as we signify it some how. Save on cost and allows testing of army lists so we can buy the real stuff later on. Sometimes we go over board like, "This tac marine is a hormagaunt..." lol, but it's all in good fun.
Edit: When Christmas comes around, some hobby stores (like the one I used to go to) give discounts. And also, Ebay sometimes has some good deals.

I've seen some of the marine models... *drool* I've HELD the new Command Squad, the plastic apothecary and the veteran sergeant....*drool*
DarkAngel players are gonna hate me but..... My Ork army? The Marine bits I use? I'm painting them Dark Angel colours....
My Eldar force is mainly held together by my two fully kitted out units of Reapers (which are troops thanks to Biel-Tan rules). I have NEVER lost to a marine army... EVER! My Reapers waste on average 8-10 marines per turn. That's not including my Guardian's Star Cannon or my Falcon with a unit of Fire Dragons inside
Fuegan is a legend....

Hive Tyrant - Check out
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk, I think that's the right link. In the Imperial Armour, Nid section you can see their Winged Hive Tyrants. absolutely gorgeous model, I'm getting my gf one for Christmas

Despite having a very dark and gothic scheme, I really like playing WH40k, and Battle Fleet Gothic. My favorite being 40k.
I have not played a game for about a year, but my friends and I used to play nearly every day. I just love strategy games like this. ^_^
I have two armies and one fleet.
Eldar: Biel-Tan Craftworld
Wins: 48 (approximate)
Losses: 2 (approximate)
Armies fought: Dark Eldar, Tyranids, Ultramarines, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Black Templars, Salamanders, Orks, and Eldar
Units:
Guardian Defenders x18
Warp Spiders x10
Striking Scorpions x10
Swooping Hawks x8
Fire Dragons x8
Dark Reapers x5
Scouts x4
Wraith Guard x6
Wraith Lord x2
Falcon Grav Tank x1
Viper x1
Farseer
Warlocks x2
Avatar
Asurman
Karandras
Baharoth
Of course I don’t usually field all these units at one time, but they are all there when needed.
Space Wolves:
Wins: 7
Losses: 2
Armies Fought: Tyranids, Dark Eldar, Blood Angles, Ultra Marines
Units:
Blood Claws x10
Gray Hunters x10
Long Fangs x5
Wolf Scouts x5 (Best in the Business IMO)
Blood Claws Bike Pack x3
Wolf Guard x8
Terminators x5 (included in Wolf Guard)
Rhino Transport x1
Venerable Dreadnaught x1
Leman Russ Exterminator x1
Wolf Priest
Ragnar Blackmane
Ulrick the Slayer
Gothic Fleet: Chaos
Wins: 4
Loss: 0
Enemies Fought: Eldar, Imperial
Honestly it has been quite a while since I looked through my Gothic stuff. I know I have 4-6 Crusers and one Heavy (Despoiler Class) Battle Ship. I have 6-8 little support craft (cannon fodder as I like to call them). But I don’t remember their classes and such.
I chose Chaos because they were having a sale on them at my local hobby shop.
But I just love the power of their Weapons Batteries. If you can close in on a unit, they are just toast! Besides, Weapons Batteries are the only really effect weapon against Eldar Sheilds… ^_^
My Eldar are my favorite army. Their units, though not as tough as space marines, are faster and pack better weapons. The only times I have lost with these guys were against a Death Wing (all terminators and Dreadnaughts, which was a close battle) and a well dug-in Ultramarines army, completely prepared with tons of Las-Cannons. Very little cover, and all their weapons out-ranged mine.
Other then that, the Eldar have always come through for me.
I chose Space Wolves as my Space Marine army because they seamed like a fun-loving bunch. ^_^ They have some cool Army-Specific rules. Like:
True Grit: Some Space Wolves units can use a Bolter as though it had a pistol grip (allowing them to also carry a close combat weapon)
Counter Charge: When a Space Wolves unit is attacked in assault, and after the enemy has positioned all their assaulting units, you can more any of your units not in base contact with an opponent in to close combat (so you don’t lose out on your full compliment of attacks)
Mixed Armor: Space Wolves are the only Chapter of Space Marines that can have one unit with more then one armor value. You can have Terminators in a unit with power armor. Basically, if you have more units with a better save, you can allot to use that save for the entire unit when defending from range combat. In other words a unit with 5Terminators and 4 power armor can all benefit from the +2 save from ranged combat!
They also have Wolf Guard and are the only Chapter allowed to field a Leman Russ Tank… Need I say more!? Mwahahaha!
If any one lives in New England and wants to play... Just let me know.

thats quite an impressive record kaji, sounds like the army cost a fortune though
noeleon and i are playing together at church, his elder and my tyranid(im gonna bring them this week noeleon)
he has this awesome eldar tank, i need some heavy units for my army
YAY just got my paycheck, ill have to stop by the hobby shop to see what they have!

That is a very impressive record, Kaji. I'd say my Biel-Tan is about a little over half (60%) wins. I have better luck with my Ulthwe though. The only army that I have a tough time winning against is my friend's Blood Angels (my former army) or sometimes, his Imperial Guard and Necrons.
I don't try to build my army tailored specifically against any one army. Mine are typically tournament style ("bland"). So you won't expect min/max guardian squads or 3 wraithlords. My friends and I can play cheap if need be, but we usually stay within bounds.
For Biel-Tan, my core consists of up to (give or take)
1 farseer
1 unit of scorpions
1 unit of dark reapers
1 unit of fire dragons
1 falcon
1 wraithlord
For Ulthwe, my core consists of up to (give or take)
1 seer council (wave serpent maybe)
2 black guardian squads (wave serpents maybe)
2 regular guardian squads
1 falcon
1 wraithlord
rest of the points on vypers/waveserpents
Whatever points I have left I just build around those units, either adding more models or squads/vehicles. Though it varies depending on the mission and what special rules are available for that mission.
The only gripe I have with the Eldar was the change from 2nd edition Eldar to 3rd edition. Most of the Eldar's units that made them Eldar were downsized. Hopefully when the new codex comes out it'll remedy that.

I don't own anything really, only the paint box with the 5 space marines, but i bought a league of Imperial Guard (i think thats what they're called.. the little army men guys... I have 20 of those) and thats it. It is a very expense hobby so Ive never gotten into it.
I love stratagizing though, and when I am in the city i do usually drop in when i have time just to look at the painted models in the window and the awesome landscapes they've built.
Ive never actually played a 'real' game but I love just watch all that stuff, its kinda like Chess and Risk and I love those games, so yeah, I like the Imperial Guards.... because they look cool
, they're not really strong though, but you can have alot of them on the table because they cost little, 5 pts ? no idea. Its a cool game though.

Imperial Guards are pretty cool. My friend fields a Cadian Kasrkin force (stormtroopers) so he doesn't have that many units because they're all elites. But I've seen Guard armies with upwards of 100 guardsmen, completely insane.
If I remember correctly, this is what I should have. (organization from the normal Eldar codex)
HQ:
1 avatar
1 farseer
2 warlocks
Elites:
6 warpspiders+2 exarchs
9 striking scorpions+1 exarch
13 howling banshee+1 exarch
5 fire dragons+1 exarch
Troops:
4 rangers
30 guardians defenders(with heavy weapon platforms; i switch the guns depending on what i use)
Fast attack:
5 jetbikes
3 vypers
Heavy support
1 falcon
2 wraithlords
3 dark reapers+1 exarch
Special characters:
Eldrad Ulthran
All Phoenix Lords except Fuegan.
Edit: That's it, most of the stuff are from 2nd edition so you have the old guardians carrying lasguns. None of them are painted, lol, they're just base coated. I simply don't have the time and I stink at painting in the first place)

these battleforces are $100, they include alot, i just dont know if i can spend that much on this stuff at one time

It'll be $125 if you buy all the things in the tyranid box set separately. But I guess if you buy one or two items each month it wouldn't seem all that much. Hopefully your hobby store will have a discount for the Christmas or post Christmas season. And I know for a fact that you need at least two of everything in that battle force. (For the exception of maybe the ripper swarms) Because that force equates to at most 500 points if you outfit them with mutatable genus/biomorphs and expensive point costing weaponrys. Hope that you find everything that you need.
