I dunno if this is in the right place, so u can all throw tomatoes at me if that's the case. This may also contain spoilers for those who haven't played through FFVIII.
ANYWAYS, i still don't get the connection between Squall and Laguna in Final Fantasy VIII. Are they like father and son, or, uhh... i dunno.

The answer to your question about Squall and Laguna is quite simple, actually...
Yup. Squall is Laguna's son. It's kinda hard to follow, but if you pay close attention through all of Squall's flashbacks and Laguna's playable parts of the game, you'll find that their stories match up almost perfectly. Plus, if you look at pictures of Laguna and Squall (especially from Kingdom Hearts, because he's older), you'll see that they look almost exactly the same.
Another thing to mention...
I have reason to believe that Raine is Squall's mother. When Squall talks to Kiros aboard the Ragnarok near the end of Disc 3, he tells Squall "how much (he) looks like (his) mother."
But I thought that...
Laguna was Squall's uncle. Besides, shouldn't they share the same last name if they're father and son?
Of course, I haven't seen the whole game, so feel free to correct me.

I'm not exactly sure where you got that from, RaidenNoKishi. I'm pretty sure the other posts are accurate.
Unless I'm WAY off, which would be funny, all things considered...

I think I got it from a friend. Keep inmind, I haven't actually played a bunch of the game. But the surname question still stands.

You could think of Laguna as Elaine's uncle, or stepdad - whichever. That would make her like an older stepsister to Squall. (I might also point out the obvious by saying that Raine, Laguna, and Squall all have to do with water. I'm convinced that since they implied the said relationship heavily in the game that it is, in fact, true.

Elaine is not blood related to any of them she was an orphan who's parents were killed by Esthar soldiers. She was taken in by Raine and Laguna.

Isn't her name Ellone, not Elaine? Or am I thinking of another game?

Yeah I haven't played the game in a long time and when someone earlier said the name Elaine I didn't think about it.

Raiden, look at this:
Squall was born while Laguna was stuck in Esthar. Soon after Squall's birth, Raine died. During that time, I think Laguna was serving as President of Esthar, so he couldn't go to be with Squall, neither could he have Squall brought to him. Since that was the case, I think he arranged for Squall to be taken care of by Cid and Edea at their orphanage, before the Garden. I think Squall got his last name after that point, but I'm not sure. Any information behind Squall's last name is purely speculation. I don't think anyone's figured that out yet...
I'm sure the Game Designers know, but they wouldn't be willing to talk about it now, would they?
