Yes, Atari fans, those of you who chafed under the whip of Infogrames who bought up the trademark and then released ridiculous remakes of classic Atari properties ... Infogrames has seen the light. The 7800 is back. (For an example of 7800 games, look at cbwing0's signature.) Here's the blurb (edited for space):

LA Times wrote:LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Atari wants to take you back in time, and to get
there, you can ride a "Centipede" or an "Asteroid," or bounce back and
forth between the pixelated paddles of "Pong."

The video game company told The Associated Press on Tuesday it plans to
reissue scores of its classic titles from yesteryear on a single disc
that can be played on the game consoles Xbox and PlayStation 2.

But it's only one of the nostalgia projects Atari will push into the
market then. The second is Atari Flashback, a slightly miniaturized
version of the old Atari 7800 from the mid-'80s. It will have 20 games
built into it, including "Breakout," "Solaris," "Crystal Castles" and
"Battlezone."

Flashback will sell for $45 and include a pair of old-school joysticks.

The "Atari Anthology" disc will offer new twists on the games, too:
"trippy mode," which renders the graphics in psychedelic colors, and
"time warp" and "double speed," which can alter the pace of on-screen
action.

Besides its array of classic Atari 2600 and 7800 titles, the Atari
Flashback console will include one previously unreleased game:
"Saboteur."

I have a 2600 already, and I'm not too interested in the 5200 because I already have an XE-GS. However, a rebadged 7800 -- if it has a real 6502 or similar in it -- would be very cool.

Ah, yes, good ol' Ninja Golf.

By the way, does anyone else remember a game called "Food Fight", I think it was? You played this kid who was trying to get past evil chefs to eat an ice cream cone before it melted. There was a bunch of piles of food you could use to beat the evil chefs, including watermelons which had unlimited ammo. Maybe I'm the only one who knows about it...

Anyway, oh yeah, gonna have to buy that one.

Man, I have way to many of those Atari classics and random arcade PC-CDs. As for the Atari 7800... that's cool and all, but I'm too cheap to shell out 45 bucks.

Personally, I have another plan (which is actually more expensive, but worth it, I think).. I'm going to continue working on my own oldskool-counter-top-look-down-arcade-machine/PC Hybrid. You remember, like at the pizza places (see picture below), expect they didn’t have a PC and could only play one game. Anyways, I saw how to make it on Techtv a while back and got inspired. So, since then, I've been slowly collecting the pieces to build it. And hey, once it’s done, I can put flash-arcade games on there to like Trodor!

I’ll post pictures of mine, when it's finished. :thumb:

Well, *I*'m springing for it. I do want to make sure that there's a 6502 under the hood, even if it's a unified design, because that way I can hack it. Even if it's implemented in terms of the NES-on-a-chip design of the NES multipack joysticks and the Intellivision DTV clones, the NES is still based on the 6502 (just the N2A03, a modified Nintendo variant with sound control and no decimal mode). However, I do suspect it has real hardware on board, just modified/distilled down for easy manufacture.
