Technical PS2 Dificulties

I recently bought a used PS2, a used memory card and some used PS2 games. The games all worked fine and the memory card worked as it should. However, When I borrowed a copy of Final fantasy 7 (for the PS1) from my friend, I got to a save point and it said It couldn't find a memory card! The card was inserted in the slot and when I tried accesing the save files for my PS2 games they were all fully intact. Later that day I bought Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 (for the PS1) and tried to use it in my PS2. Once again the game worked but when I tried to save and Once again I got a message saying that I had no memory card! Do you need to get a special PS1 memory card in order to save PS1 games when using a PS2, or is this just some freeky coincidence?

I would greatly appreciate any insight you could offer on my plight!

You must have a PS1 memory card.

Don't get the first party official ones... Pay 10 bucks more and get one of the ones that has like 20 "pages" of save files on it... 10 bucks more for 20x the number of save files! That's what I have.

Yeah I was kinda upset when I had to get another memory card just for my PSX games...But I do have the double space one tho. It's pretty kool. Wouldn't be nice if they made a universal one? For PS2 and PSX?

Thanks again for the help! sorry but I need more :shake:

Well, I bought a used memory card at Game stop for $3 but when I put in my PS2 The machine did not acknowlage its presence. The card was an off brand It said Madcats on it if I am not mistaken Is it just faulty or do I have to do something special to get it to work?

I'd say it's faulty... Madcats have some of the most unreliable equipment I've come across for a system....heck, most 3rd party stuff is unreliable... your best bet is to return it and buy an official PS memory card.
