I got the Mertoid Prime 2 demo today, and while its fun and interesting... there is one thing worrying me, the Dark Beam. Is it un-Christian to use dark powers? Sorry this is bothering me guys...

It's not like the Dark Beam is magic (at least, as far as I can tell from the reviews I've read). I'd think that the presence of the Chozo Ghosts in the first Prime game would have been more problematic.

I know its not magic Ink, I'm just making sure its okay with God, I mean you didn't play as the ghosts, you were more of a Ghost Buster in the 1st one.

Let's put it this way: I have more of a problem with the game due to the fact that it is made by Nintendo than that it incorporates a "dark beam." After all, all of the weapons are intended to cause harm, suffering, and death to your enemies; this one just uses a fictional force (so-called "dark energy," not evil :P ) to do it.

As long as Samus doesn't have to bow down and worship the source of this dark energy to get the next missile expansion in the game, I doubt that there is any real problem.

To be honest I don't think there is a problem with it...Well besides the fact that it is "Dark Powers", but all in all it is just a game, but I do know how influencial games can be, but I think just as long as you don't worship it or anything like that it'll be ok.

The beam is called 'Dark Beam' because the beam it fires is dark... Same way the Light beam fires Light... Missiles launchers fire Missiles... it means nothing.

It's just a weapon that shoots a dark colored energy beam that has nothing to do with "magic" or "dark powers."

He had a question. There's nothing wrong with wanting to be sure that something is appropriate. Discussing the topic can help, especially if others know more about the game than him.

Hmmm....*feels rather ignorant on the subject of video games, as she has not played anything since the Dreamcast era >.>; *

My general advice would be not to worry about the name of the weapon (as this is what seems to be the case) and worry about what kind of power it is. If I remember my SNES days, Metroid does not employ anything expressly supernatural...so don't stress over it too much. If your conscience (or the Holy Spirit ^^ ) for whatever reason is making you uncomfortable, then I'd say it's your call whether to play or not.

And I for one respect you for asking this question, it shows you have a deep devotion towards respecting God's commandments. *glares at the less sensitive posters*

Well, I would affirm what has been said (the Dark Beam is called such for purely asthetic reasons, and is not evil).

But also I would ask that this please not become an argument in any form. A question was asked, the question has been answered (unless Vyse has reason to expand upon it), and I do not believe anything else is necessary.

It all depends if its magic, if it is or not its not un-christian. It just matters that we as Christians have to discern what to do/play/say/act and if it bothers you so much dont play it. and if all else fails even though this should be the first thing you do, ask God if you should be doing this... :thumb:

I forget what the term is, but physicists refer to a pulling force outside our galaxy, because it appears with what is known that everything is accelerating outwards. Since it's unknown and obviously black out their, I think they refered to it as a dark something. I may be on an incredible tangent here, but it just made me thing about that.

Keep in mind that the game is fiction, and doesn't relate to how you should live your life, remember that and play the game objectively for entertainment and I think you'll have less of a problem.
