I'm discovering that it's a very good thing that I traditionally wait until 8 months after the newest console comes out to purchase it, if I do at all... I'll be able to know whether or not this controller of Nintendo's is teh coolage or not. But hey, if it isn't, at least it has the lovely little adapter thing that can let me play with my personal favorite controller: N64.

I'm traditionally an Nintendo fan, if only because Nintendo suits the kind of gamer I am. I don't want to spend hours upon hours on FPS and such...I can just watch my brothers instead, which is just as good. Nintendo makes fun games that I enjoy playing - unique ones, happy ones, heck, cute ones. As far as I can tell, neither Sony nor Microsoft have focused on a broad range of games for the entire family as well as Nintendo has. They have focused more of their energies on the hard-core gamer market. This may or may not be a wiser business decision - I certainly don't know. But I do know that I appreciate Nintendo for making all sorts of games that I can try.

About the DVD stuff:

The keyword is OPTIONAL. As Kae said, yes, most people bought a PS2 JUST for the DVD capabilities. With that in mind, most people will already have a DVD player by the time the Revo comes out, so why would they want to spend more just to have another?

Yes, I understand the complaint about the GC not having it. Those at Nintendo are human. They make mistakes. They learn from them. Big deal.

So, yeah. For the moment I'm thinking now most comments (from both sides) are simply pointless till this thing actually comes out. :/

Well, not necessarily. I don't know about you guys, but if I can sell an older system to help with buying the new one (if backwards compatibility is an option), then I'll sell the PS2 to buy the PS3 (if I buy it at all). That way, I keep my DVD player, keep my old games that I can still play, and I have a new system, all for less than I would have spent to buy a whole new system that isn't backwards compatible.

Haha, one of the reasons why it took me so long to get my GC was because I had to babysit so many times to save for it. XD Had I been able to sell my 64 and still play the 64 games on the GC, it would have been a much better trade off.

What Nintendo probably doesn't understand is that gamers who have been buying since the old days of Nintendo have this gargantuan collection of consoles that are more than likely collecting dust (granted, anything pre-SNES would be hard to make backwards compatible, but 64 and up should have been fine), while PS2 and soon-to-be PS3 owners will more than likely have one system that can do everything the previous system could do and more.

Well, like I said, they make mistakes, like anyone else, and they're learning from them (maybe a little slow for some fans :p ). I'd say what they're doing with the Revo could (hopefully) make up for the lack of backwards compatibility in the past.

I know I've said this before, but I love all the different consoles for their different perks. Xbox 360, Halo 3. PS3, MGS4. Revolution, downloadables. Also, I personally think that game systems are game systems, and if you want to watch a DVD or listen to a CD, use a DVD or CD player. I mean, I'm not completely opposed to it, I love being able to listen to my music in-game on the 360, but something about me screams that consoles should be pure playing machines (says the guy that uses his PS2 as a DVD player/disc holder).

The ironic thing is Katamari Damacy is a Sony ONLY game that will never see the light of day on a Nintendo system. Kinda ruins your argument, Ryan.

I know, but I wasn't making a statement about just Nintendo, rather anygame that gets one look and automatically is branded "not worth playing"

I wasn't addressing the opinions of every single gamer. I just know that a lot of gamers do only pay attention to that sort of thing. (Namely the unintelligent people, I can name a whole bunch I know personally) Nowhere have I stated that Nintendo is bashed exclusively for having "kiddy games". I apologize if you saw it that way. I have seen many people take a look at Katamari Damacy and ask what the crap we were playing, and why we were not playing Madden or Halo. However, one by one they got sucked and addicted into it. And it's not just Katamari.

The fact that Nintendo got RE4 first doesn't mean much. I know a lot of nintendo fans will use that as an argument to denounce people who claim that Nintendo is Kiddy. It's not really a good argument. While I have nothing against Resident Evil. Yes it is on the gamecube. Does that make people go "Oh... well it has Resident Evil... so it's no longer kiddy"? No it does not. Ask your average Jock at a highschool with an IQ lower than 80.

If you think that I am implying that people bash nintendo games because there isn't any "violent or bloody" games. Well you are mistaken. Nintendo can include a lot more violent games if they want. But it has already been branded as the "Kiddy system" by many.

I don't think anybody can deny that a large population of gamers make hasty preassumptions about if a game or console is good or not.

Violent and bloody doesn't always equal bad, though. Of course in a moral sense it does, but we're on an anime forum.

Look at God of War. What an amazingly fantastic game. It's also got lots of blood, and violence, and sex.

I think Nintendo has always wanted to aim to a younger demographic. That's fine, and if the other companies want to go for older gamers, they should. I don't have any preference when it comes to "kiddy" or "mature" games. There are some that I enjoy from both groups.

Either way, Star Control II wins.

On a side note, I thought there was some rumor about it coming to DS. Maybe I was just imagining it... >.>

And yeah, it's not really whether it's "kiddy" or not to me, but those in particular do tend to get branded alot for some reason.
Is Metroid "kiddy?" Absolutely not, but I still hear some that want to prefer Halo over such a fantastic game (if for the multiplayed, I slightly understand; Hunters is the first thing to really match that).

I agree. I am simply saying people automatically think the "kiddy" games are bad because they are "kiddy". I however find many kiddy games to be just as enjoyable as my Half-Life and Counter-Strike. Some maybe even better.

thank you. A love games of both groups Smash bros (awesome slighty kiddy game) and Mario Kart(another awesome slighty kiddy game) and then i absolutly love God of war (even tho mentioned before has blood and lots of it and sex and a good amount of it) given i don't love it for those reasons but still. I go to nentendo for party games and fun slighty kiddy games (other than RE4) and then i go to other systems for action games that are WAY more adult oriented. thats just my humble oppion take it or leave it

Well, I think that one of the things we need to realize is that video games were made for children's enjoyment back in the 80's. I don't recall any games that were meant for a purely adult audience (maybe one or two...The names escape me), because most of the gamers were children. A lot of those gamers have grown up now, and they still enjoy playing video games. So, the gaming companies have to deliver games that their older fans will enjoy. But what about the younger gamers? Well, someone has to deliver games that will be enjoyed by them, too. Just because a system carries games meant to be enjoyed by children doesn't mean that system is purely for children, nor does it mean that those games can't be enjoyed by older people. I...think I'm just mirroring what people are saying again, so...I'll just step out now. XDD

I apologize for that mistake.

My basic point is that people bash nintendo for being "kiddy" and being marketed towards a younger age group. Nobody can deny that. But I am not saying that is the exclusive reason. Yes there are games targeted to older people on Nintendo systems, but that doesn't take away the "kiddy system" title people have branded it with. I never really understood Arks' post in response to mine in the first place. It is a known FACT that people bash nintendo for a number of reasons, one being that it is "kiddy" in their subjective viewpoint.

I would SO buy that. Seriously. A little Duck Dodgers, some Sylvester and Tweety, and a bunch of Bugs in drag would make for a great game.

So maybe I just want a really good Looney Tunes game.

And now we're getting REALLY off-topic, but no one's debating. Me happy. :)
