I have to add to Kaji and Skynes, Hive Tyrants are awesome, and I suggest it should be your next buy if possible, lol.

Edit: Just beware that your Zoanthropes will probably attract a lot of fire. They are very fragile (low toughness) but have a high armor save (same as terminators)

If you take a Carnefexx, if you know how, Use the mutable Genus rules to give him leaping or something.

Can they have Tyrant Guards? I thought it was only the Hive Tyrant... hence then name TYRANT guard.

It's in the 4th edition updated FAQs, at least in the GW US site. Actually, it doesn't apply just to carnifexes but ANY Tyranid monstrous creatures. However, you can only have 1 monstrous creature join a unit of Tyrant guards (if the guards are purchased as a squad instead of an attachment like on a Hive Tyrant).

Also carnifexes do not have leaping, they have no movement upgrades; as far as my codex is concerned. (Maybe it's true in the revised codex, as I have the old one) However, you can use the Chapter Approved "guide to spawning" for maybe a leaping carnifex (I don't have the book, it might/probably be unoffical rules as well), but those are "too big" to join with Tyrant Guards (Tyranid FAQ, and if they are monstrous creatures) and the Guards won't be able to catch up anyways.

EDIT: Be sure to check the GW website for updates to your army lists, and the new Space Marines FAQs are up to compliment the new codex if you're playing SW, BA, BT, or DA armies.

Also, you can't purchased Tyrant Guards as a squad if you don't have a Hive Tyrant (Tyranid FAQ)

Ah I c. My Nid codex was bought when 3rd Ed Nids came out. So I wouldnt know of the updated rules yet.

Also carnifexes do not have leaping, they have no movement upgrades

I stand corrected. I assumed that all of them had movement upgrades to leaping or flying.

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

lol, maybe i've been playing the wrong army. ;) But seriously though, those were the things I fould when playing against and with my friends Tyranid army. I agree with what said Kaji, Lictors are the ultimate psychological unit. It can distract someone to make some grave mistakes in combat. And the best way is to give the enemy no options like Kaji's example; a lose/lose situation for the enemy.

Unless your opponent was playing an IG armored division, I don't think they are supposed to have four tanks. You only get 3 heavy support choices, so that seems a bit odd.

Normally deviating from the force organization chart wouldn't matter, but when you use it to do something crazy like mass tanks, it can be a little unfair.

Oooo. Gives me goose bumps! I just love fighting tanks with my Space Wolves!

Wolf Scouts (the best equiped scouts ever IMO), can be upgraded with a large array of weapons; Sniper weapons, Plasma weapons, Melta Weapons (and Bombs) and power weapons.

In addition to other cool rules, they can infultrate, but thats only half the fun! Mwahahaha!

One Scout unit can be kept in reserve, and when they enter combat they enter from your OPONENTS table edge. Right behind all tanks they have, or units that are dug in, and are shooting up your troops. Let the plasma fly, power weapons swing and the melta melt!!!

I have never lost a scout, and I have killed tons of armor (tanks) this way!!!

Sorry, I guess this doesnt have much to do with your game... But 40k is just so much fun. ^_^

Nice pics Glitch. :thumb:

But you can do so much more, and its not really hard.

That light color looks like Bleach Bone. A color that makes Bleach Bone look cool, is Sake Bite Leather.

Just water-down a little bit (easily done by getting some paint on your brush (just a little), then diping your brush in water). Then go over your bleach bone with it, little by little.

Let extra SBL (snake bite leather) fill in texture, while the flatter parts are wiped mostly clean with your strokes.

This will give your BB some personality, and really isnt that hard. Just remember to do it little by little, untill you get it just the way you want. Once you know what you like, the rest of your minis will go quicker. ;)

Awesome pics, that's a very good combination of colors.

The standard force organization require players to have 2 troop units and 1 HQ unit. Though you can make exceptions, they are there for game balance and so forth. However, it's not full proof as people can still abuse it through a variety of means.

Also, if you're not playing a mission (from the rulebook), it is recommended that you and your opponets' decide on which special rules to use, if any. (Infiltration, deep strike, bunkers, etc) Because some of those rules can make or break a game for you or against you.

It is possible to have more than 3 tanks in a regular Guard army; there's the Hellhound for fast attack and the Chimera as attachments to troop units.

However, by what you have said, Glitch, it seems that the Cadians are not very Cadian. Since the primary troop choices of the Cadians are the Kasrkin Stormtroopers, they don't really have heavy support other than special weapon squads (which are close range weapons, i.e. flamer, melta gun, plasma gun) and tanks. Now, they can still take regular Guard squads in a Cadian army as support for the Kasrkin, but they are reknown for their elite troops as regulars.

A good way to paint bone is this

Start with an undercoat of Chaos Black
Paint a layer of Scorched Brown
Paint a layer of Bestial Brown
Mix a 50/50 of Bestial Brown with Bleached Bone and paint it on (yes it IS supposed to look pink)
paint a thin layer of Bleached bone on this.
drybrush a very thin layer of skull white.

For an added touch you can brown ink it, then redo the last couple of steps.

Yes that is very extreme. But the result is amazing. I shall make a post with a picture of it as soon as I can. (It's how I paint all my skelies and Eldar)

-------------------------------------

Imperial Guard can have soooo many tanks.
3 Heavy Supports (Leman Russ etc.)

1 for HQ (Chimera)
6 for Troops!!!! (all Chimeras)

I think Hellhounds are fast attack but I'm not sure...

If you do that the paint will be pretty thick by the end. You could enhance the bone just be giving it a brown ink wash, then drybrush bone on it again.

I wouldn#t put red on it. The black and bone is good. If you reaaaally wanted more colour, try scorched brown on the scales.

I agree with Skynes, dont put red on the back... It looks nice with the back plates, try to find a lighter color you can use to highlight it instead (if you think it looks to boring as is). Grays work nice with back. I like to run the edges of armor with lighter colors, it makes them look slightly weathered. This concept (though never tried on Tyranids) might be what you are looking for.

we had a new guy come in and he had over a thousand point dark angels army, it was pretty cool, it was basicly space marines vs. enemies the teams were

Dark Angels, Blood Angels (my brother), and Ultramarines

vs.

Elder (Noeleon), Tyranid (myself), Chaos, and Chaos (my youth pastor)

the sides looked pretty even, and it was a nice battle!
im glad i got to get into close combat with my genestealers

im think that we will soon be done with the massive battles(so that we could learn the rules)

i had a blast!

Your youth pastor plays Chaos?
I suppose its cliche, but I would have expected a youth pastor to play a little more virtious army. Then again, I guess the Space Marines worshiping the emperor isnt exactly the right idea either...

I should like to try my hand against a Chaos army some time. They are one of the few I have yet to face.

BTW, how did the battle fan out? You said you got your Genestealers in to close combat, did your team win? How did you army fair once they did make it into combat?

I wish I could. I tried taking a few pictures with a friends digital camera (a while ago) but the lighting was horrible. They never really came out.
Unfortunately I dont have that camera any more...

Maybe some day though. ;)

Did any one devise a way to play via email or in a thread yet?

I did, but for some reason it got swept under the sea of posts in the thread. It would probably work something like playing chess by email, except with a few more additions due to the nature of the game.

The only problem that I didn't address before was exactly how to represent the gaming board. What I propose is that we use a virtual game board, made to scale to represent the tabletop. To make it easier, you could divide it up into a grid (perhaps with "6 squares, since that is that standard movement for most units). Then the players could report on the deployment of their armies, and the gameboard would be adjusted accordingly. I imagine that it would look something like a less-sophisticated version of the battle report diagrams found in White Dwarf magazine.

For possible solutions to the problems of die rolls, turns, etc., refer to my earlier post: http://www.christiananime.net/showpost.php?p=262601&postcount=53

Naturally it wouldn't be nearly as exciting as a face-to-face battle, but if you want really want to play against people across the country/world, I think this is a pretty good system. If anyone else has suggestions, please feel free to make them. Knowing how much interest there actually is in a project of this sort would also be helpful in order to decide whether it is worth investing the time and effort into devising the play mechanics.

At any rate, that is how I see something like this working. Let me know what you think :) .
