Star Wars: Empire at War Demo

Has anyone tried this demo yet? If you haven’t, do it now:

Wow, it looks like a Star Wars RTS is actually delivering on all its promises. O_o Yeah, you heard me… finally, a Stars Wars RTS done right. I mean, this demo has sold me -- I’m ordering the collector’s edition as I type this.

The game looks great; the graphics are as good, as I anticipated, and the effects are also good. Unexpectedly, it run pretty smoothly without sacrificing much too. The battle screen isn't too confusing with lots of ships or troops -- they become proportionally smaller when you zoom out -- as it had a danger of becoming (space combat wise). Yet, some of the units are a little unbalanced compared to what we see in the movies.

However! I heard that the demo is from a build from early last month, so a lot of bugs, balance issues, and other such stuff's been corrected. Also, the demo was sped up in terms of fleet moving and unit creation, and the AI has been nearly turned off. With that in mind, I'm pretty confidant this is the solid RTS fans have been waiting for.

Now, if you will excuse, I’m going to go play it again, once my order is complete…

This game rocks plain and simple. I can't wait to play the full game.

yar thx for the link link. lol. Sweet, the last 2 strategy games for star wars were pretty horrid, well definately battlegrounds, the other one (i canna remember really) was kind of strange. apparently there was a really old star wars strategy game that was turm based i think along the lines of a turn based pax imperia.

I actually thought Battleground wasn't half-bad. Then again, I was an uber-fan of Age of Empires back then. Sure it wasn't a *great* game (don't get me started on the air-units), but at least it was playable. Force Commander, however, was a nightmare... yet, I did dig some of the catchy remixes.

The really old one was Rebellion. It was a fun, yet daunting game, if you never played Masters of Orion. Interestingly, the galactic map from Empire at War reminds me of that game. -Only more polished.
